Arsene Wenger will not become Paris Saint-Germain‘s new sporting director, according to the club’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

Wenger has been without a job since stepping down as Arsenal boss at the end of last season after 22 years in charge of the Premier League side.

The 68-year-old has stated that he has no plans to retire and his been linked with a number of roles.

Reports earlier this week suggested Wenger had met with PSG chief Al-Khelaifi to discuss a possible move to the Parc Des Princes.

Wenger has been touted as a possible replacement for Antero Henrique, who has been the Ligue 1 side’s sporting director since 2017.

Henrique has often had a difficult relationship with head coach Thomas Tuchel, with the German openly critical of the club’s transfer activity during the January window.

That led to speculation Henrique could be replaced, with Wenger in contention.

However, Al-Khelaifi insists reports of an imminent move for the Frenchman are wide of the mark.

“I have very good relations with Arsene,” he told Le Parisien.

“I’m close to him and I’ve known him for a long time. He is a wonderful manager and coach. He has a very sharp and very complete knowledge of football.

“But we have a sports director, Antero Henrique, in whom I have great confidence.

“I hear the media constantly say that Arsene will come to take this job. It’s too much. Let us work, please.

“Antero does a very good job. He will continue with us. He stays there.”

Wenger was recognised at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Monaco this week with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Paris Saint-Germain will go in search of a fifth successive victory in all competitions when they take on Nimes in Ligue 1 this weekend.

Tuchel’s side are 14 points clear at the top of the table and already look on course to secure a sixth successive domestic title.

They also look set to progress through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League after an impressive 2-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford in their last 16 first leg earlier this month.
