The United striker added his second and third in the 49th and 57th minutes, first with a tap in from an unselfish square-ball from Ander Herrera before latching on to a superb Juan Mata through-ball to complete his hat-trick.
Herrera finished the rout in the 63rd minute, after being put through by Bastian Schweinsteiger and the Spanish midfielder made no mistake against the Club Brugge keeper, finishing neatly in the right corner.
Full Report
Club Brugge began the game brightly and nearly took a surprise lead in the fifth minute, but Luke Shaw got across to block Tom de Sutter’s volley.
From then it was almost all the Red Devils as Rooney, Mata and Herrera linked up effectively and looked dangerous throughout.
The visitors took the lead, and cancelled out Brugge’s away goal, in the 20th minute as Memphis Depay cut inside and beat his man, feigning a shot before laying up Rooney, who chipped the ball delicately over Bolat.
United pushed hard for a second, but to no avail before the break.
The Red Devils were back at it again immediately after half time and didn’t have to wait long for their second.
A superb team goal began with Depay winning the ball back and laying it on for Herrera who had made a dangerous run.
The 26-year-old could have gone for goal himself, but instead chose to square the ball for Rooney who finished the simplest of tap-ins.
Rooney had his midfield to thank once again for his, and United’s, third. Schweinsteiger picked out Mata on the right flank and the Spaniard cut inside before finding his captain with a delicately weighed through-ball and the England international slid the ball through the keeper’s legs to make it 3-0.
Schweinsteiger was again involved in Manchester’s fourth as the German playmaker put Herrera through one-on-one with Bolat and he slotted home to secure the visitor’s passage into the group stage of the Champions League.Source Foxsports
