• Vietnam drawn in less challenging group at AFF Suzuki Cup

    Vietnam have been drawn alongside hosts Myanmar, Malaysia and qualification winners in Group B at the upcoming 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup in Mandalay, Myanmar.

    Vietnam remained unbeaten in their previous three meetings with Myanmar, including two resounding 6-0 and 7-1 wins in a friendly match on July 2, 2014 and in the group stage of the 2010 AFF Cup, and a 1-1 draw in the group stage of the 2012 tournament.

    Malaysia is the toughest challenge for Vietnam in Group B as the 2010 champions eliminated Vietnam in the semifinals 5-4 two years ago.

    The last group opponent of Vietnam will be decided after the qualification tournament, which will gather Brunei, Cambodia, Laos and Timor Leste, to conclude on October 21.

    The August 2 draw saw reigning champions Thailand join Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines in Group A.

    The biennial tournament will be held from November 19 to December 17, with eight teams competing according to a round robin format in two groups to decide the top two teams from each group for the semifinals.

    Vietnam will play their group opener against Myanmar on November 20 before taking on Malaysia and qualification winners on November 23 and 26 respectively.
