The national football governing body only announced publicly yesterday that they had run out of tickets for the final game, even though large crowd had been in front of the VFF office since the previous night.

The VFF had neither publicly announced the sellout on local media, nor posted a notice in front of the office.

Instead, VFF staff members simply went out in person and told fans that they had run out of tickets, said Ngo Phuc, who queued up at 10:00pm right after the semifinal game on Sept.11.

Newcomers kept arriving, swelling the crowd into the thousands, without knowing that there were no more tickets left.

In the mean time, tickets are still available on the black market, with prices increased by up to 30 times their normal price.

The most expensive ticket distributed by the VFF is VND100,000 (US$4.8), but these were going for VND3 million ($144) on the black market.

Some fans reported that guards at My Dinh received VND200,000 – 500,000 (US$9.6 – 24) to let fans who didn’t have tickets enter the stadium on the day of the semifinal match between Vietnam and Myanmar.

VFF chairman Le Hung Dung admitted that the issue has caused a headache.

“The stadium has only 40,000 seats, but the number of fans who are willing to pay to enter is many times higher.”

Recently, local fans have put all their faith in the national U-19 team, most of whom are trainees of the Hoang Anh Gia Lai – Arsenal JMG football academy, since the national football squad has been marred by match fixing and violence.
