Tran Thi Hai Linh converted a penalty shootout into the opening goal in the 26th minute.
Coach Nguyen Tien Minh of Viet Nam made four changes in the second half. His changes worked well as substitute Nguyen Thi Hang made it 2-0 for the host with a close-range shoot.
She then got another goal towards the end of the match.
“They are still young and can’t avoid feeling nervous when competing at the continental level. They had psychological mental issues, but overcame them to get their first win today. I believe they will grow stronger in the future,” Minh said at the post-match meeting.
However, he said his players did not connect well with each other, leading to a lack of understanding. He hoped the problem would be solved in the next game.
Coach Marnelli Salvador Dimzon of the Philippines said her team had bad luck as they wasted several chances. However, she was satisfied with what they did, because the players had prepared for only one month for the tournament.
In another Group B game, Singapore beat Malaysia 3-1.
In Group A, the defending champion hammered Laos 9-0 and Myanmar beat Cambodia 3-0

Man City may build academy in Da Nang

Francisco Lopez, chief business officer of Manchester City Football Services, paid a working visit yesterday to SHB Da Nang to discuss the future construction of an academy in the central city.

Lopez visited SHB Da Nang’s new 20,000-seat Hoa Xuan Stadium and the team’s sports centre in Lien Chieu District.
The new stadium, which cost VND281 billion (US$10.3 million), is scheduled for completion in December.
Lopez also visited Ha Noi’s T&T FC to talk about co-operating on preparations for a friendly Manchester City tour in Ha Noi next month.
Da Nang, who won the championship in 1992, 2009 and 2012, finished fourth last year.

Thailand dreams of World Cup while Vietnam is busy with quarrels

While Thailand has drawn a roadmap to the World Cup 2018 and Olympics 2016, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) is busy with denouncements and quarrels.

After taking the AFF Cup championship last year, Thai coach Kiatisuk boldly set out three major objectives for the Thai national football team in 2015: successfully defending the men’s football gold medal at the 28th SEA Games, winning a card to the 2018 World Cup finals and a card to the 2016 Olympics Rio.
The first goal was achieved easily, proving that Thai football is now at a different level compared to the rest of South East Asia.
The two remaining goals are harder, but looking at the capacity of Thai football, people still believe that the targets have a good chance.
The current level of Thai football can almost catch up with the first group in Asia. The proof is that Thai clubs play well with representatives of the leading football countries in Asia as Japan, South Korea, and China, while the Thai national teams are also capable of competing with South Korea and North Korea.
For Vietnam football, even the tiny dream of being a SEA Games champion seems to be very far.
The Vietnam U23 team just ended the 28th SEA Games with the third position. The team failed to reach the championship. Instead of sitting down to analyze the cause of failure, the strong and weak points of the team, the VFF is having a headache with denouncements pointing to its officials.
Two top VFF officials have been accused by a subordinate of taking bribes from him, only a few days after he was laid off in a major downsizing.
According to local media, Nguyen Van Chuong, the former director of VFF’s Young Football Players Training Center, was dismissed along with other employees on June 1 under a lay-off plan.
After that, Chuong revealed that VFF chairman Le Hung Dung and his deputy Tran Quoc Tuan had taken VND100 million (US$4,587) each from him.
Chuong said as soon as he heard about the lay-off plan, he asked to meet the two officials to offer them the bribes, but he still ended up being fired.
In his complaint sent to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the General Department of Sports and local press agencies, Chuong said he gave Tuan VND100 million on July 15, 2014, but in May this year Tuan gave him back the money, saying he could not help.
Chuong said he met Dung at the latter’s house, giving him VND100 million and other gifts on August 28, 2014. He told the media he hired a lawyer to represent him and was ready to provide evidence to support his accusation.
Meanwhile, Dung denied taking any bribe. He said Chuong accompanied Tran Duy Long, former chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation, to his house on August 28, 2014 after he returned from Singapore for medical treatment.
He said he did not expect to see Chuong at his house. Chuong gave him a clock as a gift, but he refused to take it. Chuong tried to leave the clock at his house and left. He said there was no money involved. He said he would also hire a lawyer to represent him.
The case has not been solved yet. While officials of the VFF are busy with quarrels, who takes care of Vietnam football?

National U23 striker Nguyen Van Toan injured his knee just a few days after returning from the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games and needs time to recover, according to the team’s doctors.
Midfielder Nguyen Phong Hong Duy will have to rest until the end of the season to allow his broken ankle to recover. Striker Le Hoang Thien suffers a sprain. Meanwhile, goalie Pham Van Tien has a neck vertebrae injury.
However, the good news is that their key players Nguyen Tuan Anh and Luong Xuan Truong, the national U23 midfielders, are ready for action.
Anh who had to go home some days before the SEA Games because of a thigh injury was tested 30 minutes in the 1/8 round match. He played a key role in helping his team set up their domination before beating People’s Police.
Their foreign duo, Anzite Franklin and Sanogo Moussa, have also been named to play their second match for the two-time champions.
In their latest meet, Hoang Anh Gia Lai lost 3-4 to Ha Noi T&T at the Hang Day Stadium. The match saw defender Nguyen Hong Tien of the hosts stamping on the face of Hoang Anh Gia Lai’s defender Le Van Son.
Right ahead of the quarter-final match, national midfielder Nguyen Van Quyet of Ha Noi T&T promised fair play with beautiful goals and performance from both sides.
Former V.League champions SHB Da Nang do not have many chances to win their crown back this season as they are closer to the bottom teams.
Winning the National Cup title is the only way to save them from an empty-handed season.
Today, a meet with Hai Phong on home turf will be an advantage for them as they will get a strong support from home fans. The visitors have won only one match since the beginning of the season.
Apart from two new foreigners, Yaikel Perez and Sean Fraser, on the front line, Da Nang, who played seven consecutive matches without a loss in V.League 1, will welcome back their U23 player Vo Huy Toan.
Fraser gave a perfect pass to Perez to score the only goal in Da Nang’s 1-0 win over Thanh Hoa in the last round. Toan has been one of the best SEA Games scorers, with five goals in his bag, and promises to continue shooting in the coming game.
Dong Nai have been struggling at the V.League 1, but they have so far had a successful run in the National Cup as they went through the quarters without much difficulty.
Coach Tran Binh Su hopes that his new striker, Kisekka Henry, will continue to show off his high performance at a match against Dong Tam Long An.
Henry scored an opener in Dong Nai’s 3-1 win over Can Tho in the 1/8 round last weekend.
“We will try our best to beat Dong Nai in the quarters. If we can do that, we will have the advantage of playing at home in the semi-finals,” said Su.
