Mancini: Inter need time to rebuild

The former Manchester City boss insists new club president Erick Thohir will invest in a side that can break the Serie A dominance of Juventus

Inter coach Roberto Mancini says the club need time to rebuild if they are to become title-contenders once again.

The Nerazzuri, without a Scudetto since 2010, have endured a frustrating campaign, with Mancini installed in November after previous coach Walter Mazzarri managed just 16 points from their first 11 matches of the season.

Though they are set to miss out on Champions League football once again, Mancini says he is convinced president Erick Thohir will eventually put together a side that can end the dominance of Juventus, who are set to claim their fourth consecutive Serie A crown – but he warns it will take time.

“We have to grow. I have seen a lot of improvement,” Mancini told La Repubblica.

“The president is driven and positive. He is well aware that it takes time to build a team and that difficult times are part of [the process].

“He is not like us Italians, who only think about winning the Scudetto tomorrow. Our objective must be to start something that can lead to winning the Scudetto. Everybody must get this into their heads.”

Inter come into the weekend ninth in Serie A, thee points behind fifth-placed Sampdoria and Italy’s final Europa League slot.

Five highlights of Toyota V-League 1-2015 Round 12

Sanna Khanh Hoa’s 1-0 victory over the much higher-rated Becamex Binh Duong on May 2 was one of the biggest talking points of the 2015 V-League Round 12. Let’s take a look at the five major highlights in this round of play.

1. Sanna Khanh Hoa deserves to be a dark horse

Sanna Khanh Hoa have been making a fabulous debut at the V-League, currently standing in fifth position with 21 points, placed above many powerhouses in the national top-tier football league. Their surprising 1-0 victory against reigning champions and current leaders Becamex Binh Duong 1-0 last weekend, helped Khanh Hoa extend their unbeaten run to 11 of 12 matches so far in this year’s tournament.

2. Round of the hosts

The 12th round of play witnessed outstanding performances from the host teams as they took in four wins, two draws and just one loss. Song Lam Nghe An was the only team to lose on home turf last weekend, while draws were secured by XSKT Can Tho and Hoang Anh Gia Lai. Dong Thap, Dong Tam Long An, Sanna Khanh Hoa and SHB Da Nang were the four winners.

3. ‘Kings of away matches’ empty handed at Chi Lang Stadium

Ahead of the 12th round, Quang Ninh Coal were regarded as the ‘kings of away matches’ as they claimed five wins and one draw in six away matches since the beginning of the 2015 season. However, they had to concede their first away loss last weekend against a very tough challenger, SHB Da Nang, impressively regaining form with three victories in a row in the last three rounds of play.

4. Becamex Binh Duong remain on top

Binh Duong’s first-place position remained unchanged with 25 points despite their 12th-round loss to Sanna Khanh Hoa on May 2. With a goal difference of 11+ and a three-point deficit against runners-up Thanh Hoa, Binh Duong is almost bound to wind up on top of the first leg with just one game left to play.

5. Bottom group fail to quench thirst for victory

The thirst for victory from Hoang Anh Gia Lai, QNK Quang Nam and XSKT Can Tho – the bottom three teams in the provisional V-League standings – has yet to be quenched as the 12th round concluded on Sunday. Bottom-placed XSKT Can Tho had five rounds of play with no victory, while the figure was six for Hoang Anh Gia Lai. QNK Quang Nam was the most ‘thirsty’ as the number of their draws and losses in this year’s season reached seven matches.

Totti: I’ll never fight with Roma

The veteran striker reacted to rumours the Giallorossi will not extend his current contract, suggesting he will retire in 2016

Francesco Totti has insisted he will not fight with Roma amid rumours they do not want to extend his contract.

The veteran striker, who turns 39 this year, has played for the Giallorossi first team since 1992, winning one Scudetto, two Coppa Italia trophies and two Supercoppa Italiana titles.

Although he rarely completes 90 minutes for Rudi Garcia’s men, he remains a key part of their team but reports in Italy have been suggesting lately that the club do not see a future for Totti beyond next season.

Totti took to his official social media outlet to respond to the rumours and insist he will support the club irrespective of whether he is playing on the field or watching from the sidelines.

“I want to clarify something. I never asked to change my contract,” Totti told his Facebook followers.

“The owners, club and I have always been in sync on this matter. It is my passion that binds me to these colours.

“I have never been and never will be a problem for Roma. I will applaud from the pitch, from the bench and from the stands for the players who wear and will wear this shirt.

“I have always desired and dreamed of the best for this team.”

Roma sit third in Serie A with five games to go – one point behind city rivals Lazio and five points clear of chasing side Napoli, who lost 4-2 to Empoli on Thursday.

Yaya Toure injury blow for Manchester City

The Ivorian was substituted at half-time during Manchester City’s 3-2 win over Aston Villa and is now facing at least a week on the sidelines

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says Yaya Toure’s hamstring injury is likely to rule the midfielder out for their next two Premier League matches, starting with Sunday’s clash with Tottenham.

The Ivorian was substituted at half-time during Saturday’s 3-2 win over Aston Villa after suffering the setback, and Pellegrini confirmed on Friday that Toure will miss Sunday’s trip to White Hart Lane and is highly doubtful for the visit of QPR a week later.

“Yaya is injured. I think he will be out at least one more week. It will be difficult for him to play against QPR,” explained the Chilean, who is also set to be without captain Vincent Kompany (thigh) this weekend.

Pellegrini added: “Kompany is progressing and maybe next week he can be ready. Stevan Jovetic is also injured but no one else.”

Song Lam Nghe An and Quang Ninh Coal missed their chances to jump to the top of the V.League 1

Song Lam Nghe An, Quang Ninh Coal and Thanh Hoa missed their chances to jump to the top of the V.League 1 after their draws in the 11th round, as leader Becamex Binh Duong played one day later.

Than Quảng Ninh lỡ cơ hội chiếm ngôi đầu

Song Lam Nghe An, currently at second position, were tied 2-2 by second-from-bottom Can Tho. Quang Ninh Coal, despite a large bonus from their fan club, failed to defeat Sanna Khanh Hoa. Their match ended 3-3 on Saturday. Also, Thanh Hoa could not score against the effective defence of Quang Nam and brought home only one point after a 0-0 match yesterday.

Their draws resulted in their position being unchanged, leaving an opportunity for Becamex Binh Duong to expand their gap if they have a favorable result against Hai Phong today on their home turf.

The most watched match of the round should be a match between hosts Ha Noi T&T and Hoang Anh Gia Lai at the Hang Day Stadium, which lured a record 15,000 spectators.

T&T scored a goal every 10 minutes in the first half, with a double by Hoang Vu Samson. Meanwhile, Hoang Anh Gia Lai score three times, with two of their goals being penalty shootouts.

The victory helped T&T end their no-win streak and maintained them at No 9 in the rankings, with 13 points.

Hoang Anh Gia Lai, however, lengthened their poor performance. It was the sixth game in a row that they have not won this season. They are now at 11th place with eight points, just two more than the bottom group.

Coach Guillaume Graechen of Hoang Anh Gia Lai said his team would try to stay clear of the SOS area.

The former champions will welcome a 1.90m-tall midfielder next week, who is expected to improve their ability to resist high balls, which is their weakest point, at present.

Former national U19 halfback Bui Tien Dung, borrowed from Viettel, will also begin his service next week as he fills the hole in Hoang Anh Gia Lai’s defence, Graechen said.

In their next match on May 3, Hoang Anh Gia Lai will host Quang Nam.

Result:
SLNA – Can Tho: 2-2
SHB Da Nang – Dong Thap: 3-1
Quang Ninh coal– Sanna Khanh Hoa: 3-3
Ha Noi T&T – HAGL: 4-3

FIFA reschedules Vietnam -Thailand Match

FIFA has agreed to change the date of the match between Vietnam and Thailand in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification after the two countries raised concerns it interfered with commitments for the 28th SEA Games. Date will change from june 11th to May 24th. For this, Coach Miura will have to face less pressure because of leading two teams.

HLV Muira sẽ có nhiều kế sách khi thay đổi được lịch thi đấu At first, VFF and FAT asked for game on October 3rd but it was refused because  FIFA disagrees to change order of games. Then the second request on May 24th is said to be accepted.

For this changing both Vietnam and Thailand will have advantages. Because both teams have only one coach for U-23 team and national team. The coach meets difficulty in leading team and  at two championships.

Vinh scores fastest V.League 1 goal

Le Cong Vinh marked his return to the main team of Becamex Binh Duong with a goal just seven seconds into the match against Hai Phong in the V.League 1 round 11 yesterday.

Vinh’s goal was the fastest ever in the national premier league.

Vinh was dumped on the bench most of the time with Binh Duong, which were managed by experienced Le Thuy Hai.

The Nghe An Province-born striker did not win Hai’s heart and was given few chances to play, although he was one of the highest-paid players in Viet Nam.

Under Hai’s reign, Vinh played only six matches – and only two of them from the beginning.

His total playing time of 259 minutes compares with 1,762 minutes in total for Song Lam Nghe An last season.

Hai resigned last week and Vinh immediately become a hero.

Vinh received a ball from his teammate’s first kick from the central area. He broke Hai Phong’s defence before it could gain strength.

His second goal of the tournament was a positive sign for him as national coach Toshyia Miura who was on the stand looking for players.

Hai Phong fought for an equaliser, but their attempts failed – and Binh Duong scored again.

Cheikh Abass Dieng defeated goalkeeper Nguyen Thanh Thang for the second time with a straight kick to the left corner in the end of the first half.

Dang Khanh Lam narrowed the result for the visitors with a tap-in in the 69th minute after consecutive attacks.

However substitute Nguyen Tang Tuan finalised the score from a narrow angle just one minute on the field at the 74th minute.

The win keeps Binh Duong on the top of the table with 25 points after 11 rounds. The gap between them and the three chasing teams grew to four points.

Hai Phong are in fifth position with 19 points. Their young midfielder Vu Ngoc Thinh received a second yellow card and will be banned next round.

V.League 1 players will have no time to enjoy the national re-unification vacation as the next round will start on May 1.

Former champions Ha Noi T&T will play hosts Dong Thap on Friday.

Binh Duong will travel to Nha Trang to face Sanna Khanh Hoa. SHB Da Nang will host third-placed Quang Ninh Coal – and Dong Tam Long An will welcome Hai Phong. All matches are on Saturday.

Former winners Song Lam Nghe An will play Dong Nai. Hoang Anh Gia Lai have a chance to improve their ranking when entertaining Quang Nam on home soil. Outstanding Thanh Hoa will be visitors to Can Tho on Sunday.

VN women target ASEAN title

Viet Nam hope to win the ASEAN Women’s Football Championship starting on May 1 in HCM City.

p26

Coach Norimatsu Takashi, who has worked with the team for several weeks, is confident of retaking the trophy that they lost two years ago.

He said he was surprised at the professional attitude of Vietnamese players who, he said, worked very hard, focused on his programme and quickly carried out all exercises.

Myanmar and Thailand are powerful teams, so Vietnamese women need to be in top shape. Takashi said he was satisfied with their progress.

He said Viet Nam had chances to go further, but needed time to build up into a really strong team.

He said there was something similar between Vietnamese and Japanese women’s football although there was a big gap between two teams in world ranking.

Japan spent 20 years to become world champions with the support of many experts and foreign players.

He said it would be the same for Viet Nam, who have to improve the quality of the national championship as well as create more competitions for them.

Mai Duc Chung, head of the Viet Nam Football Federation’s (VFF) National Teams Department, agreed with Takashi’s goal.

“The VFF has not set any target for the team, but as we play on home soil with many fans, we should get the best result,” said Chung.

After a loss of 1-2 to Ha Noi T&T’s U14 men last week, the team, which arrived in HCM City yesterday, will have another match against the city’s women’s squad today.

Takashi has 24 players in training. Many competed successfully during the Asian Games where they entered the semi-finals.

The championship will kick off on May 1. Viet Nam will play Myanmar a day later. Both teams are considered at a higher level compared to Malaysia and the Philippines in Group B. They are expected to secure two berths to the knockout stage.

In Group A, Thailand and Australia are expected to be semi-finallists as their rivals, Indonesia and Laos, are not as strong as them.

Teams will compete in the May 1-10 event at the Thong Nhat Stadium.

Last year, visiting team Japan took the trophy after beating Australia 5-3 in the penalty shoot-out. Viet Nam won a bronze medal after defeating Myanmar 3-1 in the third-place play-off.

Eight teams to vie at AFF Women’s Championship

Eight teams will vie at the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Football Championship 2015, scheduled to be held in Ho Chi Minh City in May, said the Vietnam Football Federation.
The teams from Australia, who are the guest at the event, Indonesia, Laos and Thailand will compete in Group A. Meanwhile, those from Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and host Vietnam will be in Group B.
Under the round-robin format, Group A’s matches will begin on May 1 while the teams in Group B will play with each other from May 2.
Vietnam face Myanmar on May 2 before competing against Malaysia on May 4 and the Philippines on May 6, the VFF said.
This year’s tourney is said to be of importance since women’s football is not included in competition categories at the 28th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 28) in Singapore this June.
Vietnam hosted the VFF Women’s Football Championship for three times (in 2006, 2008, and 2012) since it was first held in 2006. It won the trophy in 2006 and 2012.
