Vietnam beaten 3-2 by Japan at under-19 Nutifood Cup

The host Vietnam lost 3-2 to Japan in the last match today of group B of the under-19 football tournament Nutifood Cup held in Hanoi from September 5-13. Yet, the host still wins a spot to play with Myanmar in the semifinals.

After a series of short and fast passes in front of the Japan box, Van Toan in a favorable position turned round and blasted a powerful shot at a distance of 20 meters to the far corner of the goal frame and beat Japanese goalkeeper Nakamura Kosuke.

Earlier, the goal frame of Vietnam was challenged by a dangerous attack of Japan. However, Japanese striker Ochi Yamoto shot the ball wide.

In the second half, Japan scored three goals before Vietnam shortened the gap to 3-2 thanks to a penalty kick in the 89th minute.

Both Japan and Vietnam launched dangerous attacks towards each other in the second half of the match. At the 48th minute, Japanese midfielder Okugawa Masaya received the ball and sped up to leave behind Vietnamese defenders. However, the Japanese player couldn’t win keeper Minh Toan.

Four minutes later, Ochi Yamato from the right side made a cross in front of the Vietnamese box. Masaya sped up and shot the ball onto the goal post.

At the 58th minute, Japan successfully leveled it 1-1 following a simple attack. From the midfield, Japanese striker Ideguchi Yosuke dribbled the ball towards the Vietnamese goal and made a shot at the distance of 30 meters. The ball flew into the far corner of Vietnam goal.

At the 84th minute, Nakano Masaomi lifted to 2-1 for Japan after crossing a diving shot into the Vietnamese goal.

Three minutes later, Japan had a counter attack from the midfield and Kaneko Shota extended the gap to 3-1.

At the 89th minute, Van Toan was tackled in the box and Vietnam was awarded a penalty shot. Cong Phuong shortened the arrears for Vietnam to 2-3.

So, Vietnam as the second-ranked team in group B will encounter group A leader Myanmar, who crushed Indonesia 3-0 today, in the semifinals.

The second-ranked Thailand will face Japan in the last-four round.

The tournament is actually a training chance for the six teams, who all have won spots in the final round of the 2014 Asian U-19 Football Championship to be organized in Myanmar from October 9 to 23. The six teams include Thailand, Indonesia, and Myanmar in group A; and Japan, Australia, and Vietnam in group B.

At the Asian event to feature 16 teams in Myanmar, Vietnam will play in group C against Japan, South Korea, and China. Vietnam targets to top their group to automatically secure one of the four direct tickets to the FIFA U-20 World Cup, to be held in New Zealand between May 30 and June 20, 2015.

The Vietnamese U-19 national team includes most trainees from the Hoang Anh Gia Lai – Arsenal JMG football academy, based in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai. They have completed six out of seven years of their training program at the Arsenal-supported football academy, which was established in 2007.

Vietnam Futsal Team to win consecutive matches in Thailand

In the evening of September 6th, Vietnam national Futsal team continue to face Thailand student fustal team who has lost against Vietnam 3-5 on September 3th and this time the score raised to 6-3 for Vietnam.

Thailand student team has called more players who were absent in last game, therefore they played better than last one. They overwhelmed Vietnam players in the whole first half. However when Trong Luan opened 1-0 for Vietnam, game changed and then Bao Quan raised score to 2-0 two minutes later and Quoc Nam’s 3-0 goal. Thailand students has one goal in the end of first half.

Entering the second one, Vietnam made old mistakes when players played more slowly. Thailand players took this chance to equalized 3-3. Coach Bruno immediately rearranged lien up then Quoc Nam scored 4-3 goal for Vietnam, Long Vu then raised it up to 5-3 and Bao Quan’s 6-3 goal was the last result of game.

The whole team will take a short rest before facing Chonburi who has win the second title of Asian Futsal Club championships. This game is considered as the most difficult game for Vietnam players in this training trip.

HV-An Giang officially dissolve

HV-An Giang has been dissolved after one year having played for V-League and then relegation for V-League 2.

In the morning of September 6th, leaders of An Giang province People’s Committee had chaired meeting for Hung Vuong An Giang football club, together with leaders of Culture-Sports and Tourism department, representatives from Hung Vuong An Giang Company and sponsors Hung Vuong Company. The meeting has come to conclusion that HV An Giang should be dissolved and all members will move to football training center which is under management of An Giang Culture-sports and tourism department. An Giang will also concentrate on young football, then they will come back to professional tournaments when they are really ready and strong. This aims to avoid the same situation as 2014 season.

HV An Giang was the pride of An Giang football fans when they played for V – League in 2014 after having waited for 17 years. As agreement to play in V-League, the province had contributed VND15 billion ($714,000), the An Giang Culture, Sports and Tourism Department VND4 billion ($190,400), while Hung Vuong An Giang was supposed to contribute the rest of the amount.

However, when the 2013-14 season ended last month, the company owed about VND10,8 billion ($514,000), leading to a situation that no salary or bonus could be paid to the players. Therefore team showed a worse performance than before. The decision was attributed to shortage of funds as both the An Giang Province and sponsor Hung Vuong An Giang Company failed to collect enough funds to cover the VND40 billion (US$1,900,000) needed to support the club. After hgaving lost 0-3 in play-off game against Can Tho, An Giang officially relegated.

HV An Giang is now official dissolved however the consequence of 1 year playing for V-League is still lasting. An Giang are still in debt with players though managers promised to pay for them however players are looking for a real action than promises.

Trademark goal by ‘Vietnamese Messi’ appears in English papers

Vietnamese under-19 striker Cong Phuong has been featured in sports papers in England and Vietnam after he scored a fantastic goal in the team’s 1-0 win over Australia yesterday in Hanoi.

The clash was part of the Southeast Asian U-19 Football Championship, or Nutifood Cup, taking place from September 5-13 in the Vietnamese capital.

Phuong received the ball at midfield and dribbled past three Australian players before curving a shot into the far corner of the Aussie goal.

Alex Harris of the Daily Express, at http://www.express.co.uk, an English publication, wrote, “Nguyen Cong Phuong may be a name unfamiliar to Arsenal fans, but the youngster may soon be a Gunners star.

“He has come to prominence today after footage emerged of him scoring a fantastic goal to settle an AFF Under-19 Championship match for his home national against Australia.

“Phuong… beats a number of players with his fancy footwork before firing home a stunning strike from inside the box.”

The youngster is currently part of Hoang Anh Gia Lai – Arsenal’s JMG Academy in Vietnam, and the striker has already been dubbed ‘the Vietnamese Messi’, he wrote. The Barcelona superstar would be proud of such a strike.

Another online paper, www.101greatgoals.com, commented that, “Arsenal fans may never see Nguyen Cong Phuong in their beloved red jersey, but right now the Gunners prospect is doing his utmost to convince Arsene Wenger and colleagues that he’s worth bringing over to England!”

In Vietnam, newspapers won’t regret their praise of Phuong’s trademark goal yesterday.

Phuong and his U-19 national team players have created a fever among local fans, with ticket price to watch Vietnam’s matches at the Nutifood Cup increasing by several factors.

The most expensive match tickets, normally sold for VND100,000 (US$4.8), were sold yesterday for VND400,000. A VND40,000 ($1.9) ticket was sold for VND200,000, and a VND70,000 ($3.4) ticket went for VND250,000 ($12).
