Official: AC Milan sign Bonaventura

The Atalanta attacker has completed a deadline day move to San Siro after the Rossoneri missed out on Parma’s Jonathan Biabiany

AC Milan have snapped up Atalanta winger Giacomo Bonaventura on a five-year deal after the collapse of their move for Parma’s Jonathan Biabiany.

The French attacker had looked set to make San Siro his home after being pictured with a Milan t-shirt and scarf earlier on Monday, but Cristian Zaccardo’s decision not to move to the Ennio Tardini as part of the swap deal brought about the collapse of the ex-Inter man’s transfer.

Milan moved quickly to sign a replacement, though, bringing in Bonaventura from Atalanta in a deal worth around €7m plus bonuses.

The 25-year-old is a product of the Bergamo side’s youth system and played 134 games for the Orobici over a seven-year period.

He joins Fernando Torres and Marco van Ginkel at Milan, with both players having been confirmed as new signings by the club in the final days of the transfer window.

Official: Miquel joins Norwich from Arsenal

The defender only made five Premier League appearances for the Gunners but helped Leicester City to promotion during a loan spell in 2013-14

Norwich City have completed the signing of Spanish defender Ignasi Miquel from Arsenal on a three-year deal, the Championship outfit have confirmed.

Despite the sale of Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona, the 21-year-old has remained well down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

He spent the 2013-14 campaign on loan at Leicester City as they won promotion to the Premier League and he is hopeful of repeating the feat with the Canaries following his move to Norfolk.

“It’s brilliant for me to come here and I want to try and get in the team as soon as I can to help Norwich get back to the Premier League,” he told Norwich’s official club website.

“I had to move on from Arsenal and Norwich have given me the chance to prove myself. The Championship is a tough league, but I know what it’s about and I enjoyed it last season.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started.”

The Spain under-21 international made five Premier League appearances for the Gunners, with his final appearance for Arsene Wenger’s side coming against Sunderland in February 2013.

And Norwich manager Neil Adams is hopeful he will be able to bolster his defence following an injury to Ryan Bennett against Ipswich Town.

“He’s a defender who we know can play having come through the Arsenal system, and he had important experience with Leicester last year in the Championship,” he said.

“He’s certainly one who can come in and give us strength on the left side of our defence.”

Chicharito: Madrid move a dream come true

The Mexico international is over the moon with his transfer to the Champions League holders and can’t wait to get started.

450761_heroa

Manchester United loanee Javier Hernandez has admitted that joining Real Madrid is a dream come true for him and is keen to prove the Santiago Bernabeu side were right to sign him.

The Mexico international has failed to nail down a regular spot in the United first-team since joining in summer 2010 and signed for Carlo Ancelotti’s side on a one-year loan deal on Monday after passing his medical.

Hernandez says he is keen to get started and prove his worth at his new club and insists he doesn’t feel pressure in following in the footsteps of compatriot Hugo Sanchez, who won five league titles in the seven years he spent at the club.

“I am delighted to be here and grateful to Real Madrid for giving me this chance. I will do everything I can to help the team. Playing for Real Madrid is a dream come true. Everybody in the world knows Real Madrid,” Hernandez said at a press conference.

“Hugo Sanchez had a great career here, but I want to do my own thing and make a name for myself. I will give my all to repay Madrid for the confidence shown in me. I want to win titles with Madrid.

“A big team cannot rely on one player. You need a team to be successful. And out of all the big clubs in the world, Real Madrid are the biggest.”

The 26-year-old could make his official Madrid debut in the Liga match against at home against Atletico after the international break on September 13.

Rossi to have more knee surgery

The Fiorentina striker has struggled with injuries for much of his career and is set for another operation on his troublesome right knee

415542_heroa

Fiorentina have confirmed that striker Giuseppe Rossi will need further surgery on his troublesome right knee.

The Italy international has seen his career blighted by serious injuries, with the latest setback meaning he faces a fourth lengthy spell out due to operations on the same joint.

The 27-year-old first suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage in October 2011 while playing for Villarreal in La Liga. He reinjured the knee as he stepped up his comeback in April 2012, meaning he missed out on his national team’s assault on Euro 2012.

After signing for Fiorentina in January 2013 and making his debut in May of that year, Rossi initially appeared to have overcome his knee troubles. But he then strained the medial collateral ligament in January 2014, keeping him out for four months.

He will now have keyhole surgery after receiving a negative diagnosis from a specialist in London following a reoccurrence of knee trouble in pre-season training.

Rossi has netted 17 goals in 25 appearances for Vincenzo Montella’s side, but has missed a total of 52 competitive fixtures already since signing for the club. There is currently no clear timescale for his latest lay-off.

United close to Falcao loan deal

Manchester United have agreed a loan fee of between £5million and £6million for Monaco’s Colombian striker Radamel Falcao.

494931603

Journalists understand that the 28-year-old is due to arrive in Manchester ahead of a move to Old Trafford subject to a medical and agreeing personal terms.

A deal for one of the most sought-after strikers in the game would see United beat both Manchester City and Arsenal to the South American’s signature.

Meanwhile, United’s Mexican striker Javier Hernandez flew to Spain earlier on Monday ahead of a proposed loan move to Real Madrid with an option for the Spanish club to buy the 26-year-old at the end of the season.

United had not been expected to make another major signing after reaching an agreement to bring in Daley Blind from Ajax, but the chance to land Falcao has proved too tempting especially with Hernandez and possibly Danny Welbeck leaving Old Trafford.

It would mean another season without Champions League football for Falcao, but that is not something that has concerned him in the past – indeed not since he was with Porto in the 2009-10 season has he played in UEFA’s top club competition.

The player had been looked at by Arsenal and City but both clubs had baulked at the financial investment needed in terms of the loan fee and his wages.

Meanwhile, United are also expected to confirm the completion of Blind’s move after agreeing a deal for the 24-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield.

Blind, who would sign for £13.85million, was a key part of United manager Louis van Gaal’s Holland team in the World Cup.

The player told Fox Sports at the weekend: “I am enormously proud to be at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Everything has happened so suddenly. What exactly has gone off in the background, only my agent and my dad know, but it was a very exciting and tense time.”

Official: Brazil starlet Doria seals Marseille switch

The 19-year-old defender completed a medical on Monday and has now finalised a €10 million switch to the Ligue 1 club

451086_heroa

Botafogo defender Doria has completed his move to Olympique de Marseille, the Ligue 1 side have confirmed.

The highly-rated 19-year-old centre back has been persistently linked with a move to Europe this summer and speculation has increased with Botafogo in the midst of a financial crisis that has seen a number of players go without wages.

After completing a medical on Monday, Doria admitted he was delighted to be joining a European side with the pedigree of Marcelo Bielsa’s outfit.

“I’m very happy, honoured and proud to join Marseille,” he told the club’s official website.

“This is one of the biggest clubs in Europe, well known in Brazil.

“I am fully prepared and trained with Botafogo before I signed with Marseille. I’m in great shape, ready to play.

“I’ve heard of the passion fans of Marseille. I know they play a very important role. I saw pictures from the Stade Velodrome in the last game of Marseille against Nice, it was amazing.”

Botafogo boss Vagner Mancini said the stopper, who was also attracting major interest from Lyon, Lazio and Valencia, will be sorely missed by the Rio de Janeiro club.

“He’s a spectacular athlete, he’s so much more than everybody thinks,” Mancini told a press conference on Sunday.

“He’ll be soon be playing for Brazil. I am sorry he’s leaving, we’ll miss him very much. He’s an unique talent. I wish him luck for his future career.”

The under-20 international has made one appearance for the senior national team, appearing against Bolivia last year in a friendly for domestic-based players only.

He will cost the Ligue 1 club a fee in the region of €10 million, of which around Botafogo will receive €3 million for the 30 per cent stake they hold in his registration.

City stunned as Diouf gives Stoke shock win

Manchester City crashed to a shock 1-0 defeat against Stoke as Senegal striker Mame Biram Diouf stunned the Premier League champions on Saturday.

Manuel Pellegrini’s team were beaten on home turf for the first time in the league since February thanks to Diouf’s fine solo run and a poor piece of goalkeeping from City’s Joe Hart in the second half at Eastlands.

Diouf is a former Manchester United player who failed to make the grade at Old Trafford, but he returned to Manchester in style, netting Stoke’s first goal at City in seven visits in the Premier League era to give Potters boss Mark Hughes a sweet victory over the club that sacked him in 2009.

The 26-year-old, brought to England by Alex Ferguson in 2009 but limited to a handful of substitute appearances in his time with United, collected a headed clearance from a corner midway inside his own half and set off towards the City goal.

Showing eye-catching pace, Diouf proved too quick for Aleksandar Kolarov and easily beat Fernandinho’s mistimed challenge before arriving in the area and hitting the ball, low and right-footed, through the legs of Hart, who will feel he could have done much better with his attempted save.

Frustrated by an excellent game-plan implemented by Hughes and the visitors’ committed concentration and defending, the champions created few openings as their 100 percent winning start came to an unexpected end.

Flowing move

After 11 minutes, Samir Nasri gathered a square pass from Bacary Sagna and unleashed a snap-shot which goalkeeper Asmir Begovic turned away from his goal smartly.

But it was not until stoppage-time in that first period that Stoke’s goal was threatened again in a flowing move that had been all too rare from the hosts over the first 45 minutes.

Sergio Aguero slipped a pass through the area for the overlapping full-back Kolarov who sprinted to the by-line and pulled the ball back for Yaya Toure whose shot, from the corner of the six-yard area, was tipped over acrobatically by Begovic.

Those half-chances aside, City failed to find the enterprising football that has become such a feature of their home performances in recent seasons, and helped contribute to six consecutive home wins against Stoke in the Premier League by a combined 15-0 scoreline.

It was a strangely lethargic display from City and one which contrasted with Stoke’s determined performance.

Nasri’s 51st minute shot was deflected just wide of the Stoke goal and Sagna’s clever prodded pass set up Toure whose effort was parried up, and onto the roof of the net, by Begovic.

The corner led to Diouf’s extraordinary goal which, in turn, handed Stoke added belief that they could record their first top-flight win at City in 34 years.

Indeed, five minutes after taking the lead, Stoke almost doubled the advantage with substitute Peter Odemwingie crossing from the right and Diouf missing the ball by a fraction as he slid into the six-yard area.

Predictably, City’s response was frantic as substitutes Edin Dzeko and Jesus Navas came off the bench.

Dzeko threatened on a couple of occasions soon after his arrival and Aguero worked an opening for himself with a shot that deflected onto the arm of Marc Wilson, although referee Lee Mason correctly turned down the resulting penalty appeal.

As City pressed, Stoke were presented with the occasional opportunity on the counter-attack and Peter Crouch headed down, and narrowly wide, from Phil Bardsley’s 72nd minute cross, before the action returned to the other end with Toure’s shot wrong footing Begovic but diverting just wide.

To compound a miserable afternoon for the champions, Toure was cautioned late on for simulation as he attempted to win a penalty from Erik Pieters.
