Everton have confirmed the signing of Ferencvaros midfielder Muhamed Besic on a five-year deal.

The 21-year-old, who featured for Bosnia at the World Cup, linked up with his new squad for their summer trip to Thailand last week and has now completed the move which Goal understands is worth €5 millon.

Besic watched from the sidelines as Everton lost to newly promoted side Leicester City in Bangkok at the weekend and Martinez is delighted to be able to finalise the deal.

“Muhamed is a young footballer who has developed massively in the last two seasons. He has been playing as a centre-half and as a defensive midfielder at an incredible level,” Martinez told the club’s official website.

“What he did with Bosnia-Herzegovina in the World Cup, he showed that he is a really mature footballer, that he covers the ground really well, that he is very dynamic and technically very gifted.

“He is bringing us really good strength in an important part of the side.”

Besic becomes Everton’s second summer signing after fellow defensive-minded midfielder Gareth Barry penned a permanent contract earlier this month.

Dunga named new Brazil coach

The 50-year-old succeeds Luiz Felipe Scolari to return for his second stint with the Selecao after a largely successful four years in charge between 2006 and 2010

437589_heroa
Brazil’s football federation (CBF) has confirmed the appointment of Dunga as the new Brazil coach.

The 1994 World Cup-winning captain returns for what will be his second stint in charge of the Selecao, having spent four years at the helm between 2006-2010.

He succeeds Luiz Felipe Scolari, who left the post after failing to claim Brazil’s first World Cup on home soil following a humbling 7-1 defeat to Germany in the semi-finals.

At his unveiling, Dunga stressed the importance of being level-headed about the Selecao’s standing in world football and insists that the national team will not stumble upon Pele-esque players often.

“The national team still represents a lot,” the new Brazil boss told reporters. “And we’re going to win back that pride through results, showing how much we want to do the best.

“I won’t be selling a dream. I’ll sell them the reality. And the reality is that we need a lot of work. We can’t keep thinking that we’re the best. We were the best.

“We have talent for being the best, but we need to be humble enough to understand that other teams have worked a lot to get where they are. We need to work very hard to earn the right to be amongst the best. we can’t sell to the fans the illusion that things will improve overnight.

“We can’t think that we’re going to stumble upon a Pele all the time. We can’t try to have a new idol every day. We need to put together talent and humility.

“Football is no longer a game of one or two star figures. It takes the active participation of all the players.”

In Dunga’s previous spell in charge of his country, he won 42 and lost just six of his 60 games, guiding them to the Copa America 2007 and Confederations Cup 2009 titles, but was criticised for his pragmatic approach.

The 50-year-old was fired from what was his first senior coaching role in 2010 after suffering a World Cup quarter-final defeat to the Netherlands.

Dunga’s only other experience in the dugout came at Brazilian club Internacional last year, but he lasted less than 12 months before being dismissed after suffering four straight league defeats.

His first Brazil squad will be announced in late August ahead of the Selecao’s Gillette Brasil Global Tour friendly fixtures with Colombia and Ecuador in the United States.

Andre Wisdom loaned to West Brom

Andre Wisdom has become West Brom’s sixth signing of the summer courtesy of Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers singing the defender’s praises.

Liverpool v Notts County - Capital One Cup Second Round

England Under-21 international Wisdom has joined new head coach Alan Irvine’s side on a season-long loan from Anfield.

Wisdom scored on his Liverpool debut in a 5-3 Europa League win over Swiss side Young Boys in September 2012, going on to make a further 18 appearances that season.

Following three appearances for the Reds at the start of last season, the 21-year-old then joined Derby on loan for the season, starting 38 games, including the Sky Bet Championship play-off final defeat to QPR.

Capable of playing at right-back or centre-back, and going on Rodgers’ word, Irvine said: “I’ve spoken to Brendan, who I’ve known for a very long time and who I trust implicitly.

“He said Andre would do a good job for us. That was reassuring.

“You can see the player, but you want to find out what they are like as a person. Brendan spoke very, very highly about him.”

Real Madrid sign Colombian star Rodriguez

Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign World Cup Golden Boot winner James Rodriguez from Monaco, the European champions have announced.

James Rodriguez of Colombia celebrates scoring his team's second goal

The Colombia international has agreed a six-year contract with Madrid and underwent his medical with the club on Tuesday morning. He will be presented on Tuesday evening.

Neither club have confirmed the fee for the 23-year-old, but reports suggest Madrid have paid in the region of 80 million euros (£63million), which would make Rodriguez the fourth most expensive transfer of all time after Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez.

A Real Madrid statement read: “Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Monaco for the transfer of James Rodriguez, who will join the club for the next six seasons.

“The player will be presented today, Tuesday 22 July, at 20:00 (Spanish time), in the Santiago Bernabeu’s presidential box.

“Following that, James Rodriguez will take his first steps on the Santiago Bernabeu’s pitch wearing the Real Madrid shirt and will attend the media in the press room.”

Rodriguez was one of the revelations of the World Cup, scoring in each of Colombia’s games as they reached the quarter-finals of the competition for the very first time, eventually losing 2-1 to hosts Brazil.

In total Rodriguez scored six goals at the World Cup to finish as the leading scorer – one clear of Thomas Muller – while his stunning 25-yard volley against Uruguay was voted goal of the tournament on FIFA.com.

His signing comes less than a week after Madrid brought in another of the World Cup’s star performers in Germany’s Toni Kroos, who moved from Bayern Munich for a reported £24million.

It also means that, if the reported figure is correct, Madrid now boast three of the four most expensive signings in history, having spent a world-record £86million on Bale last summer and £80million on Ronaldo in 2009.

The Champions League winners would hold a clean sweep of the top three signings but for arch-rivals Barcelona, who splashed out a reported £75million on Liverpool striker Luis Suarez earlier this summer.

Rodriguez began his professional career with Colombian side Envigado before moving down to Argentinian club Banfield aged 17.

His performances for the Buenos Aires outfit attracted the attention of Porto, who signed him for £4million in 2010, and three years later he joined Monaco for £38.5million after helping the Portuguese side win a hat-trick of league titles and the 2011 Europa League.

The left-footed forward scored 10 goals in 38 matches in all competitions for Monaco last term as they finished second in Ligue 1 behind Paris St Germain.

Big-spending Monaco said they had not been looking to sell Rodriguez but described the deal as “one of the most significant transfers in football history”.

A statement on www.asm-fc.com read: “The club would like to take the opportunity to thank James for the role he played in getting the club back to the Champions League and wishes him the very best for the future.

“The club had no intention to sell the player, however the time came when the solution of a transfer was considered to be the most beneficial solution for all parties.

“Monaco is proud to be a party to one of the most significant transfers in football history.

“Monaco is a club that will continue to grow and remains focused on the future. More than ever it has the ambition to strengthen the team and continue to progress for next season.”
