David Moyes has thanked the Manchester United fans following his sacking on Tuesday and says he is “proud” to have managed the club in a statement made to the League Managers Association.

Moyes was sacked following a 2-0 loss at Everton which confirmed the club would miss out on Champions League football next season and the Red Devils look set for their lowest finish since the 1989-90 season.

Via the LMA, the Scot said: “To have been appointed as manager of Manchester United, one of the biggest football clubs in the world, was and remains something of which I will always be incredibly proud.

“Taking charge after such a long period of continuous stability and success at the club was inevitably going to be a significant challenge, but it was one which I relished and never had a second thought about taking it on.

“The scale of the manager’s job at United is immense, but I have never stepped away from hard work and the same applies to my coaching staff. I thank them for their dedication and loyalty throughout the last season.

“We were fully focused and committed to the process of the fundamental rebuilding that is required for the senior squad.

“This had to be achieved whilst delivering positive results in the Barclays Premier League and the Champions League.

“However, during this period of transition, performances and results have not been what Manchester United and its fans are used to or expect, and I both understand and share their frustration.”

Sir Alex Ferguson handpicked Moyes last season to succeed him following 11 years at Goodison Park but United have suffered a difficult transition.

The club were eliminated from the FA Cup in the third round – one of many unwanted records accumulated by the 50-year-old in his one season in charge.

“In my short time at the club I have learnt what special places Old Trafford and Carrington are. I would like to thank the United staff for making me feel so welcome and part of the United family from my first day. And of course thank you to those fans who have supported me throughout the season. I wish you and the club all the best for the future.

“I have always believed that a manager never stops learning during his career and I know I will take invaluable experience from my time as United’s manager. I remain proud to have led the team to the quarter finals of this year’s Champions League and I remain grateful to Sir Alex Ferguson for believing in my ability and giving me the chance to manage Manchester United.”

Quyen’s decision could be the next shock for Ninh Binh after its recent match-fixing scandal, which has stirred up the public in recent days.

Explaining his sudden decision, Van Quyen, a member of Vissai Ninh Binh FC, says that, besides the factor of his age, he did not have many opportunities to play in the jersey of Ninh Binh. To arrive at this decision, Quyen says, he had to fight and argue a lot in his mind.

Quyen’s decision could be the next shock for Ninh Binh after its recent match-fixing scandal, which has stirred up the public in recent days.

“I had to think a lot before making this decision. In my heart, giving up football is a very difficult struggle. But perhaps, it’s time for me to plan for my future. Football cannot sustain me and my family. I also wish to have more time to take care of my mother, to get married and prepare my business plans,” Quyen says.

After a talk with Ninh Binh FC’s Chair Pham Van Le on Saturday, Quyen left Ninh Binh for his hometown, Nghe An, to start a new life without football.

Van Quyen was suspected of involvement in the recent match-fixing scandal of Ninh Binh in the AFC Cup 2014. But in his most recent meetings with police, he maintained his innocence.

Van Quyen was once considered the “golden boy” of Vietnam football. He lost that moniker after being suspended for involvement in a match fixing scandal at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games.

He played football again in January 2009 and joined many FCs but he no longer impressed fans. He was summoned to the national squad in August 2010, but after two drillings, an old ankle injury recurred and he left the team.

Ryan Giggs to be named interim Manchester United manager

Ryan Giggs is set to be named as Manchester United’s caretaker manager following David Moyes’ sacking. An announcement from the club is expected later today, it is understood.

United will also try to move quickly to install a permanent replacement for Moyes. It is understood that Holland boss Louis van Gaal is the favourite to take over, but another potential candidate in Borussia Dortmund manager Jürgen Klopp looks to be out of the picture.

Van Gaal is reportedly among the front runners. The former Barcelona manager has an impressive CV and will be available this summer when he leaves his post as Holland coach. Borussia Dortmund coach Klopp is among the fans’ favourites to take over, but the club are understood to favour other candidates.

Diego Simeone is another highly regarded figure in European football after taking Atlético Madrid to the top of the Spanish league and into the semi-finals of the Champions League.

However, many fans would like to see Giggs take the post on a long-term basis, despite his lack of managerial experience.

Moyes slipped into United’s base in Carrington unnoticed on Tuesday morning. Succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson, who won 13 league titles during his time at the club, was always going to be difficult, but few expected this season to have gone so badly.

The list of unwanted records broken by Moyes is as embarrassing as it is long. United are guaranteed to end the season with their worst points total in Premier League history, they have failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in almost two decades while Moyes’ home record is the worst of any United boss since 1978 when Dave Sexton was in charge.

United are seventh in the Premier League with four matches to go, with Europa League qualification now also looking unlikely.
