The award is presented by the HCM City Law newspaper based on nominations received from sports reporters, editors, supervisors, referees, football experts, and fans from all international matches involving the national senior and junior teams and all professional events, including futsal, organised by the Vietnam Football Federation.

The candidates will be announced and voted for in the media.

This year the organising committee has brought U15 and U17 events into contention for the first time.

The awards will be given away at the end of the year at Tao Dan Stadium, with the ceremony broadcast live on HTV.

Everyone nominating a top five candidate and submitting video clips of their fair play will get gifts.

Here are FIFA’s ten fair play codes: play fair; play to win but accept defeat with dignity; observe the laws of the game; respect opponents and teammates, referees, officials and spectators; promote the interests of football; honour those who defend football’s good reputation; reject corruption, drugs, racism, violence, gambling and other dangers to our sport; help others resist corrupting pressures; denounce those who attempt to discredit our sport; and use football to make a better world.

Ngọc banned, fined due to serious foul

Goalkeeper Trần Bửu Ngọc has been banned for four matches and fined VNĐ15 million (US$670) according to the Việt Nam Football Federation’s Discipline Department yesterday.

Ngọc of Cần Thơ FC committed a serious foul during a match against Sài Gòn FC at the V.League’s round 17 last weekend.

The former national goalie, in his attempt to block a ball, trampled striker Trịnh Duy Long’s right shin, causing an injury. Ngọc was sent off.

VFF said Ngọc’s foul was not deliberate but it was considered dangerous so the fine was necessary.

Ngọc, who apologised to Long for the incident after the match said it was a heavy ban but he would not complain.

He will be able to return to the game on August 21 when Cần Thơ host Quảng Ninh Coal at home.

On the same day, VFF also handed a four-match ban and VNĐ10 million ($450) fine to Nguyễn Đức Thịnh, assistant coach of Sài Gòn FC due to his bad behaviour during the same match.

Australia đoạt Cúp vô địch

The team beat Việt Nam 5-3 in the penalty shootout after finishing 3-3 after full time.

With the score at 3-2 to Việt Nam’s advantage with just seven minutes to go, a mistake right at the end allowed Australia to score, forcing the game into the lottery of penalties.

“The support from the stand was immense,” said Australian head coach Antony Vidma on the website aseanfootball.org. “That motivated us to push forward and never give up.”

“It was so close, very close to winning,” said Việt Nam head coach Đinh Thế Nam. “It was a very good game against a very strong team – just unfortunate with the penalties.”

“Losing to the rival who were beaten 3-0 by Việt Nam in the qualifying round is very regrettable, especially in the final match when the victory is coming near. With this loss, I hope Việt Nam will grow up in the coming time. U16 team is Việt Nam’s football’s future to gain gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games in 2021 to be held in Việt Nam,” said Trần Quốc Tuấn, vice chairman of the Việt Nam Football Federation.

Meanwhile, Nguyễn Trọng Long, Việt Nam’s captain said the team will try their best in the coming AFC U16 Football Championships and will win the AFF U19 Football Championships three years later.

“Via this tournament, the whole team drew morals, especially when the refreree didn’t blow the whistle to finish the game, the victory didn’t line in our hands and footballers needed to focus more,” Long added.

Việt Nam will take part in the AFC U16 Football Championships in September in India. The team are in Group B alongside Japan, Australia and Kyrgyzstan. If the team are in the event’s top four teams, they will earn a slot to compete in U17 World Cup

Goalkeeper error gives Bình Dương a draw

Another mistake by goalkeeper Bùi Tấn Trường led to a regrettable error for defending champions Becamex Bình Dương in the National Cup’s semi-final draw against Quảng Ninh Coal yesterday.

Tấn Trường lại mắc sai lầm, B.Bình Dương đánh rơi chiến thắng

A misunderstanding between Trường and Trương Đình Luật brought a ball to Dyachenko Rodion Sergey who easily netted in the 74th minute to level for the visiting side.

Trường committed several serious errors leading to Becamex Bình Dương’s losses in the V. League recently.

“We believed in him. These were only technical mistakes. We were sad with the losses but he suffered much more than us during this time (when national leagues enter a sensitive phase and match-fixing is one of the concerns),” coach Nguyễn Thanh Sơn said.

“At present, most of my players are not at their peak, not only Trường, who was my first choice at the beginning of the season,” he said.

Earlier, Becamex Bình Dương’s captain Nguyễn Anh Đức opened the score from a penalty about 10 minutes after the break.

Mạc Hồng Quân missed his goal near the end of the match when the pole denied him the chance.

The draw puts Quảng Ninh Coal at an advantage in their second leg match on August 3 at the Cẩm Phả Stadium.

In the other semis, Hà Nội T&T beat hosts Quảng Nam 3-2 at Tam Kỳ Stadium.

Samson opened the score in the 14th minute for Hà Nội T&T. Nguyễn Văn Quyết and Phạm Thành Lương netted one each in the last few minutes.
