Klopp at Liverpool would boost Bundesliga, says Lehmann

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann believes it would be an endorsement for both the Bundesliga and German coaches if Jurgen Klopp is appointed as Liverpool’s new manager.

jurgen-klopp

The 48-year-old ex-Borussia Dortmund boss is the hot favourite to replace Brendan Rodgers, who was sacked as Liverpool manager on Sunday.

Klopp enjoys an excellent reputation across Europe after winning the 2011 and 2012 Bundesliga titles with Dortmund, whom he also steered to the 2013 Champions League final.

Lehmann spent five years playing in the Premier League for Arsenal and believes it would be a feather in the cap of Germany’s top flight if Klopp brought success back to Anfield.

“It would be good for German football if he went there,” the ex-Germany goalkeeper told SID, an AFP subsidiary. “If he is successful, it would be good for coaching in Germany to step out of the shadows it has been lurking in for the last few years.”

Germany’s World Cup winning coach Joachim Loew believes Klopp’s passion makes him the ideal candidate to take Liverpool forward with Merseyside’s sleeping giants currently 10th in the Premier League.

“Jurgen Klopp is a coach who was extremely successful at Dortmund and who stirred many incredible emotions,” said Loew at a press conference in Dublin ahead of Germany’s Euro 2016 qualifier with Ireland on Thursday.

“Viewed from a distance, there are certain parallels between Dortmund and Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp can take any team forward, including Liverpool.”

So far, Klopp has stayed silent on the topic and was tight-lipped when approached by a reporter from German daily Bild on Monday, while the British media are reporting that Klopp’s appointment at Anfield is imminent.

Viet Nam shut down Laos in AFF futsal

Viet Nam crushed Laos 13-1 in the first Group B match at the ASEAN Football Federation Futsal Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, yesterday.

Tuyển futsal Việt Nam

Only three minutes after the referee blew the starting whistle, Le Quoc Nam lit up the scoreboard for Viet Nam.

Viet Nam completely dominated the game but for an early mistake by the defensive line-up, which helped Laos level the score 1-1 in the seventh minute.

The remaining time quickly became a nightmare for the Laos team. A minute later, Viet Nam’s Mai Thanh Dat took back the lead. The goals continued in quick succession, from the ninth to 11th minute.

Tran Long Vu, Phung Trong Luan, Nguyen Minh Tri and Nguyen Bao Luan earned themselves goals. Ngo Ngoc Son and Danh Phat joined the feast, scoring two more goals.

After the break, Viet Nam continued the merciless attack. Five more goals were tallied thanks to Tran Van Vu, Dat, Trong Luan, Vu and Duong Anh Tung.

With egos inflated, the Viet Nam team will face Myanmar tomorrow.

They will then face the rest of Group B, Australia and the Philippines, before hopefully advancing to the quarter-finals.

The top four teams at the championship will qualify for the 2016 Asian Football Confederation Futsal Champion-ship’s final round in Uzbekistan next year.

Reigning champions, Thailand and Australia, are expected to claim two of the four slots.

Chung quits Binh Duong technology director position

Technical director Mai Duc Chung has parted ways with defending V.League 1 champions Becamex Binh Duong.

Under the guidance of Chung, Binh Duong won both the league and cup this year.

“Binh Duong and I have a good relationship. I am very glad because I devoted myself to the team and the team did very well. I’m saying goodbye to Binh Duong due to personal reasons, not because there is a problem between the two sides,” said Chung.

According to General Director of Binh Duong Football Joint Stock Company Cao Van Chong, Chung needed a rest before starting a new job in football.

Chung stepped down from his position as manager of the Viet Nam Football Federation’s National Teams to move to Binh Duong in May.

Local team drop win in final minutes

Toshyia Miura rightly said that he planned to lock Iraq’s players in their Group F match of the World Cup qualification round, Asia zone, yesterday, in Ha Noi.

Việt Nam vuột mất chiến thắng phút bù giờ

Viet Nam, which were considered the underdogs against their Middle East rivals, were in the lead most of the time until the dying moments of the match, when they let a goal in to end the match 1-1 at the national My Dinh Stadium.

Le Cong Vinh scored the opening goal in the 25th minute while Younus Madmud had Iraq’s leveller in the additional time.

Viet Nam as hosts showed no fear against Iraq who were taller, bigger, but not better as they had been described in the newspapers in the recent days.

Midfielder Nguyen Trong Hoang brought the ball into Iraq’s area and created a smart pass to Vinh, who left two Iraqi defenders behind before sending the ball into goalkeeper Noor Sabri Abbas Al Bairawi’s net.

The unexpected goal pushed Viet Nam’s spirits sky high and they rallied with a number of attempts that made Iraq work very hard in the first half.

Just about five minutes after the goal, Vinh gave an unbelievable chance to Mac Hong Quan and waited to see the second goal for Viet Nam.

Quan was really calm and confident as he aimed at Al Bairawi’s net but for some unknown reasons his kick went over the bar.

The television screen showed the regret of thousands of local fans in the stands as well as coach Miura who was tearing his hair in frustration after his favourite striker’s chance was wasted.

However, the Japanese still seemed satisfied with what his players had achieved in the first 30 minutes, giving a huge cheer to encourage the whole squad.

The defenders shut down the field all the way up to goalie Tran Nguyen Manh’s area. They worked so well that the Iraqi players, including their captain Younus Mahmood Khalaf could not bring their skills into play.

Iraq made three changes with a view to remedy the situation. They tried to increase the tempo of the match and took advantage of their better physique in the second half.

Miura also changed his plans with three new players.

His tactic proved right as the hosts began working fluently against Iraq’s better performers.

Manh showed his great skills and saved his net for the ‘nth’ time under the continuous attacks of the Middle East representatives.

He was successful in all situations – free kicks, headers, close- and long-distance shoot-outs by Ahmed Yaseen Gheni, Ali Hisny Faisal and Mohamad Abdul-raheem Karrar.

In the 86th minute, Vinh nearly made it 2-0 in a one-two situation with the Iraqi keeper. The national forward tried to cheat Al Bairawi with a shot to the right corner but the ball did not run strongly enough to cross the line.

However, even as the entire stadium stood up in anticipation of a win, Iraqis found the leveller.

Defender Nguyen Thanh Hien made a mistake when his hand touched the ball in the box and a penalty was awarded to the visitors.

Manh, who could not be beaten earlier, failed this time when he could not stop a straight kick by Khalaf.

Iraq equalised on the stroke of full-time.

In the post-match briefing, Miura said his players worked hard through the game but unfortunately they were drawn in the last seconds.

This was a match that Viet Nam made more mistakes than their rivals who were not as good as they should have been. But he predicted their playing style and muted their game throughout.

Coach Yahya Alwan Manhal of Iraq said at least seven players from his side did not play at their peak yesterday. They were not confident enough and wasted their opportunities. They were better in the second half, but the Vietnamese goal keeper was excellent.

Manhal said that if Viet Nam could maintain their performance they would definitely beat Thailand in the next match.

After the third round matches, Viet Nam are in third position with four points. Thailand are on top with seven points, followed by Iraq on five.

Viet Nam will next play arch-rival Thailand on October 13, also at My Dinh

Vietnam U-19s awarded $13,300 for advancing to Asian championship finals

The young Vietnamese earned all four wins in Group G, after beating Hong Kong 3-1, Brunei 5-0, Timor Leste 2-1, and Myanmar 1-0.
They won the control in the first half of the Myanmar match thanks to their short passing and coordination in small groups.
The opening goal came in the 20th minute following a counterattack, in which striker Duc Chinh was set up in a favorable situation, cleverly neutralized the off-side trap of the rival defenders, and slotted the ball past keeper Thitsar Min.
Five minutes into the second half, Vietnam were awarded a penalty after keeper Min fouled Duc Chinh in the box.
However, Trong Dai sent the ball into the crossbar and it bounced wide of the woodwork.
Speaking after the match, Vietnam coach Hoang Anh Tuan said, “I warned my men of pressure during the match because of the importance of advancing to the finals.
“I am happy that they were of sound mind and overcame the psychological pressure of playing this away game.”
Vietnam won the only official ticket for Southeast Asia to get into the finals of the AFC U-19 Championship, while Thailand and Myanmar are waiting for the secondary chance to advance as the best of the five second-ranked squads from five groups.
Bahrain will host the finals from October 13 to 30, 2016.
With the result, the men led by coach Tuan were presented with a cash prize of VND300 million (US$13,300) from the Vietnam Football Federation, the sport’s governing body in Vietnam.
2015 can now be seen as a year of success for Vietnamese youth football in Asian tournaments.
Earlier, the Vietnamese national U-23 team secured a seat in the finals of the AFC U-23 Championship, to be held in Qatar in January.
The national U-16 team of Vietnam also grabbed a ticket to play the finals of the 2016 AFC U-16 Championship in India.

Viet Nam underdogs in Iraq clash

Vietnamese coach Toshyia Miura has called Iraq a stronger team than the hosts in a Group F match of the World Cup 2018 qualification round.

p26a
At a press conference yesterday in Ha Noi, the Japanese said Iraq were definitely at a higher level than Viet Nam as they were the former Asian champions.

In this group, they beat Chinese Taipei 5-1 and tied 2-2 with Thailand in an away game.

However, he confirmed that there were different elements in football that played roles in deciding who the winners were.

Miura, who made a final list of 23 players yesterday, said he and his assistants carefully analysed every member of the Iraq team and had suitable plans for each.

The coach said Ali Adnan of Iraq, who is competing in Italy, was the player to watch.

Moreover, Vietnamese players should keep an eye on Younus Mahmood and Ali Hisny Faisal.

Miura was excited with his chance to face a team from the Middle East and said it would be interesting if Viet Nam could grab a win as it would be bang in the Asian continent.

“It is not an easy task, but let us wait and see,” he said.

Viet Nam Captain Le Cong Vinh also participated in the press conference.

“We watched Iraq playing Thailand and found that they were a much better team with almost no essential weaknesses. So, it is really difficult to say if we can beat them tomorrow,” Vinh said.

“However, we will have to try hard every minute of the game,” he added.

On the other side, coach Yahya Alwan of Iraq gave praise to Viet Nam’s midfielders who, he said, were the keys to the squad, with their great speed and technique.

He said, Viet Nam have made a big jump compared to the team which lost 0-2 to Iraq at the Asian Cup in 2007. Viet Nam and Thailand are at same level and the leading teams in Southeast Asia at the moment.

However, Iraq still wants to take home three points, although it would not be a piece of cake.

Sharing his coach’s opinion, Adnan plays for Serie A’s Udinese said that Viet Nam were strong, but his teammates were also at their peak.

The match will kick-off at 7pm at the national My Dinh Stadium and will be aired live on television.

Deterioration in Vietnamese football management

Vietnamese football has been spoiled by a lack of solidarity among leaders, the intervention of the state, and match-fixing during the seven terms of the last 26 years.

urGN1UH0

Problems emerged at the beginning of the first term in 1989 and have hindered the development of Vietnamese football since.

Duong Nghiep Chi, acting president of Vietnam’s football governing body, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), from 1989 to 1993, admitted that match-fixing occurred at a very early stage.

It was not for money back then, but merely for relations between clubs, Chi said, adding that the phenomenon was commonly called ‘sentimental football.’

All clubs were then subsidized by the state and those who were relegated got less investment, he said.

So clubs maintaining good relations with one another tended to help give points by intentionally losing to or drawing with ‘rival’ teams.

Throughout the seven terms of the last 26 years, the poor management of domestic football has remained unchanged thanks to the intervention of the government, Chi said.

It is a result of the fact that many clubs have been unable to ‘survive’ independently on their income from ticket sales, advertisements, and sponsorships.

In reality, many clubs are still funded by the state’s budget.

Even those teams considered able to stand on their own feet still rely on the business results of sponsors, Chi stressed.

If their sponsors face trouble in business, they too will be immediately entangled in trouble.

Compared to the time under total state subsidy, Vietnamese football has made progress, but it still fails to keep pace with other nations.

Along with the lack of development, problems like consistent disciplinary violations and match-fixing have continued to rise, Chi noted.

The election of officials to take the helm at the VFF has long been influenced by the state, who decides on all the major appointments at Vietnamese football’s governing body.

In short, the operation of football in Vietnam is a mixture of state management and the structure of a market economy followed by sponsor companies, according to Chi.

In addition to match-rigging and state intervention, the lack of solidarity has hampered Vietnamese football and occurred in all seven leadership terms so far.

VFF officials have frequently split into factions and fought each other instead of working to improve the domestic game.

A history of problems

In 1991, 11 footballers of the Vietnamese men’s national team abandoned their training camp as a result of a disagreement between the VFF and the coaching board.

During the second term of the VFF in 1993-97, five football clubs left the top-flight league due to fights between factions at the VFF.

In the same term, the national team’s coach, Karl-Heinz Weigang from Germany, accused his players of manipulating a 1-1 draw with Laos in the 1996 Tiger Cup. Vietnam won a bronze medal at the tournament.

In the third term from 1997 to 2001, three footballers were arrested for gambling and organizing gambling – the legal terms used for match-fixing in Vietnam.

In the fourth term from 2001 to 2005, the owner of Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC said he would sell his football club and the boss of Dong Tam Long An FC threatened to sue the VFF, both for irregularities in its player-transfer regulations.

Seven referees, a coach, and two club officials were then captured for bribery in Vietnam’s top two leagues in 2004.

This period also saw a major match-fixing scandal by Vietnamese players at the 2005 SEA Games in the Philippines.

In 2006, the head coach and assistant coach of Song Lam Nghe An FC were apprehended for manipulating the results of matches at the V-League, Vietnam’s top-flight tournament.

In the two most recent terms from 2009 till now, factional behavior by VFF officials has seriously split the association, while 15 players of Vissai Ninh Binh FC and Dong Nai FC were nabbed for match-rigging in 2014.

Mata: Chelsea can turn it around

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata says that former club Chelsea are still title contenders, despite the reigning champions slipping off the pace early on.

w638_h359_at__86770
The 27-year-old knows Chelsea well after two-and-a-half seasons at Stamford Bridge, and is surprised by their current league position of 16th.
The Blues already trail Premier League leaders Manchester City by 10 points after four defeats and only two wins this campaign, but the Spanish playmaker is quick to point out that a long season still lies ahead.
“Chelsea are in an unusual situation,” he told Onda Cero. “It is somewhat circumstantial and I do not think it will go on for an extended period of time. They do not have a squad that should have them in that position in the Premier League.
“We have seen the gap of 10 points arrive in two months and I think Chelsea will come out of that situation quickly. In fact, I do not rule them out of the title fight.”
Mata’s United side return to Premier League action against Everton next Saturday, when Chelsea will be lining up against Aston Villa.

Dinamo player fails doping test

Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Arijan Ademi has failed a doping test taken after their 2-1 win over Arsenal in the Champions League.

w638_h359_at__86775
The 24-year-old Macedonia international played the full 90 minutes of their group-stage clash with the Gunners, and is in line for a suspension if the second sample comes back positive.
“We are aware of the results of the doping control test after the Champions League first round match against Arsenal,” said an official Dinamo statement.
“Our player, Arijan Ademi, tested positive, and Uefa has opened proceedings against him. According to Uefa rules, Dinamo cannot comment on the case until the B sample is given.
“For years, our players have been regularly subjected to doping controls and nothing like this has ever happened, so we have to say that we are surprised by the result.
“Arijan Ademi was tested six times last year and each time the result was negative. Players have also been tested several times this season by Uefa and the Croatian Anti-Doping Agency and everyone was always negative.”
While the player could face a lengthy suspension, there has been no word yet on the repercussions for the Croatian club, or whether it will affect the outcome of their win over Arsenal.

Zouma: Mourinho knows everything

Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has hailed manager Jose Mourinho’s tactical nous, but says the Portuguese tactician seldom gets angry at his players.

w638_h359_at__86776
The Blues are languishing in 16th place in the Premier League after an unprecedentedly poor start to the campaign, but the club recently moved to reaffirm their trust in the manager.
The young French centre-back admits that the squad is struggling with their form, but is confident that Mourinho can guide them out of their slump.
“After defeats, there’s a strange atmosphere in the dressing room,” he said. “There’s complete silence — no one opens their mouth. Mourinho has taught us to hate defeat. We’re steeped in that culture so it’s hard for us.
“And then he’s incredibly intelligent — he knows everything. I’ve never seen him get an opposing team wrong. I don’t know how he does it.
“Every goal we concede, he’ll have shown it to us before on video. Then he’ll he say to us: ‘I warned you, lads.’ He leaves nothing to chance — it’s really the best. But sometimes in football there are times when everything goes wrong.”
Chelsea will resume Premier League action next weekend, when they welcome Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
