Many famous players of the club arrived in Vietnam on Saturday and had a training session at My Dinh National Stadium in the capital on Sunday.
They include defenders Aleksandar Kolarov, Bacary Sagna, Eliaquim Mangala and Gael Clichy; midfielders Fernando, Jesus Navas, Marcos Lopes, Raheem Sterling and David Silva; striker Edin Dzeko; and keeper Joe Hart.
Around 3,000 fans came to watch them train on the pitch. The fans were presented with many small balls kicked into the stands by The Citizens at the end of their training session.
The players also gave signatures and posed for pictures with the Vietnamese fans.
With the match to take place tonight, ticket prices have fallen by a half on the black market.
Tickets priced VND1 million (US$46) were advertised for just VND500,000 by vendors around the stadium.
Earlier, the prices were announced by the organizers – the Vietnam Football Federation and local lender SHB Bank – as VND1.8 million ($83), VND1.5 million ($69), VND1 million ($46) and VND600,000 ($27.6).
Yesterday was a happy day for children living at the SOS Children’s Village in Hanoi because they were visited by Manchester City players.
They had the chance to play with the well-known players and draw paintings to give to them as souvenirs.
The players were also given greetings cards with messages such as ‘Never Give Up’ and ‘Nothing Is Impossible’ written by the underprivileged kids of the village.

T&T back in title race after win over Thanh Hoa

Ha Noi T&T trounced top-ranked Thanh Hoa 4-1 in their 18th round match in the V.League 1 yesterday (July 23) in the capital city.

Thanh Hóa (phải) đại bại trước Hà Nội T&T

The win brought the former champions back into the title race as they are now one of the top three teams.

Thanh Hoa’s second loss in a row pushed them down to the second spot in the rankings, ceding the top spot to Becamex Binh Duong.

Gonzalo Damian Marronkle grabbed a double while Victor Manuel Ormazabal and Nguyen Van Quyet netted a goal each for Ha Noi T&T.

Thanh Hoa’s Le Quoc Phuong scored the only goal for the hosts, 17 minutes after the interval.

At Dong Thap Stadium, hosts Dong Thap tasted victory yesterday after two losses in a row.

They beat Dong Tam Long An 2-1 in a match that the visiting side played without their key striker Souleymane Diabate and midfielder Vo Nhat Tan, both sidelined by injuries.

The absence of the duo adversely affected Dong Tam Long An’s performance, as their substitutes failed to convert their chances into goals.

On the other hand, the hosts’ foreign players, Kpenosen Samson and Felix Gbenga Ajala, were at their peak.

Samson opened the score in the 29th minute with a powerful header to the far left corner.

It was 2-0 for Dong Thap after Nguyen Cong Thanh sent the ball into the net from a narrow angle five minutes later.

Dong Tam Long An did their best, but could only score a goal at the end of the first half when Rafael Dos Santos Lima beat goalkeeper Tran Khoa Dien in a one-two situation.

Coach Dinh Cao Nghia was back with Quang Ninh Coal after resting two rounds for health reasons, but saw his team lose 0-1 to defending champions Becamex Binh Duong on their home turf.

Nghia, who has been promoted as the deputy chairman of the team, tried his best, but could only help his team deny their rivals a goal until the 82nd minute.

Meanwhile, Trinh Quang Vinh scored a golden goal that brought Binh Duong back to the top of the rankings after two weeks at the No 2 spot.

A strong push after their victory against Binh Duong in the last round did not help Hoang Anh Gia Lai win yesterday.

The team of young players were beaten 0-2 by former winners SHB Da Nang at the Chi Lang Stadium.

The loss was partly attributed to the absence of coach Guillaume Graechen and to striker Hoang Thanh Tung suffering pain in his ribs. Tung, who scored two goals in the last round, was not at his best due to the pain.

Fraser Sean Peter Roy opened the scoring just 10 minutes into the game when his low shot easily found the net.

Hoang Anh Gia Lai made several changes in the second half and talented Nguyen Cong Phuong was put in the field, but the under-23 team striker failed to lift his team’s game.

Their poor performance saw them concede another goal, in the 85th minute, when Roy completed his double with a header.

Hoang Anh Gia Lai are back in the next-to-bottom place in the rankings just four days after leaving that spot.

In other matches, Dong Nai remained at the bottom position despite their 3-1 win over Quang Nam. Nguyen Hai Anh, Henry Kisekka and Christian Amougou scored a goal each for the team.

Can Tho scored a surprise 2-1 win over third-placed Hai Phong on home soil. The victory pushed them one step up to No 12 in the rankings.

Former champions Song Lam Nghe An suffered a shock yesterday as they were defeated 0-1 on their ground by underdogs Sanna Khanh Hoa.

Nguyen Hoang Quoc Chi netted the only goal of the match, in the 84th minute, helping his team climb up to a surprising fourth position with 30 points.

Boaz Myhill agrees new deal at West Brom

The 32-year-old was used as back up for first-choice goalkeeper Ben Foster by Baggies boss Tony Pulis last season, and will continue to fight for the number one jersey

West Brom have announced that goalkeeper Boaz Myhill has agreed terms on a new two-year contract at the club, which will see him stay at the Hawthorns until 2017.

The former Wales international joined Albion from Hull City in 2010, but has since found regular first-team opportunities hard to come by.

Myhill was given an extended run in the side towards the end of last season following Ben Foster’s knee injury, and the club confirmed on Thursday that he has been rewarded with a new deal.

“It’s great to get my future sorted out,” he said. “It’s never easy being a goalkeeper when you’re not in the team but the Premier League is the place you want to be in.

“I enjoyed the final few months of the season and tried to do my best during that period.

“Pre-season has been tough but now we are beginning to focus on making sure we are ready for that opening game of the season.”

Manager Tony Pulis was delighted to come to an agreement with Myhill, and praised his pre-season preparation ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.

“I’m delighted Boaz has signed his new deal,” added Pulis.

“He had a smashing end to the season when he came into the side and has worked very hard throughout the summer.”

Don’t compare me to Guardiola – Tuchel

The new Borussia Dortmund coach insists he is an admirer of his Bayern Munich counterpart but maintains he has not tried to copy his style

thomas-tuchel-borussia-dortmund_4dymegxylggr1imsavqtkcrkv

Borussia Dortmund’s new coach Thomas Tuchel says he is an admirer of Pep Guardiola, but insists he should not be compared to the Bayern Munich boss.

Having taken over from Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund after a bright spell with Mainz, Tuchel is seen as a very promising coach with an intelligent and attractive playing style.

The 41-year-old has admitted that he has been inspired by his Bayern counterpart, but says he has not tried to copy the Spaniard’s coaching methods.

“As a fan and coach I simply admired Pep’s work at Barcelona,” Tuchel told Bild. “But from this admiration I have not tried to copy or imitate Pep.

“It would not work, imitating his style.”

The coach also revealed that he has not had time to talk to predecessor Klopp as of yet, but hopes to build a solid relationship with his fellow ex-Mainz boss.

“We have only had contact via text messages so far,” he added. “But my wish is that we make up for it. I want a very cozy meeting and a good relationship.”

Pellegrini slams Madrid’s handling of Casillas exit

The goalkeeper was pushed out the Santiago Bernabeu door to Porto and his former coach does not think it was a fitting exit for a club legend.

Real Madrid have been criticised over the way they handled Iker Casillas’ exit by former head coach Manuel Pellegrini.

Having been reinstated as the Blancos’ No.1 last season following 18 months of being intermittently benched, the shot-stopper was unceremoniously pushed out of the club this summer.

Ahead of Friday’s pre-season International Champions Cup clash with Manchester City, Pellegrini passed his verdict on Madrid’s treatment of the 34-year-old club legend.

“I was saddened by the way that Casillas left,” he told reporters. “His exit wasn’t handled in the best way. He’s a top player.”

There have been comparisons between Casillas’ Madrid exit and fellow Madrid icon Raul who, five years ago, departed the Santiago Bernabeu for Schalke without much fanfare.

The Man City trainer refrained from directly answering when it was put to him that the circumstances were similar, instead lauding the talent of the striker whom he worked with during his single season at Madrid.

“I was lucky enough to manage Raul and, in my opinion, he was one of the most intelligent players I had the opportunity to coach,” Pellegrini added.

Pellegrini was sacked as head coach in 2010, 12 months after arriving, due to Champions League, Copa del Rey and La Liga failures.

Memphis: I want to be a Manchester United legend

The 21-year-old says he will put pressure on himself to perform in every match and believes he is constantly improving under the guidance of Louis van Gaal

Memphis Depay insists he is aiming to become a Manchester United “legend” and believes he is improving after every training session under Louis van Gaal.

The 21-year-old joined from PSV in a deal worth around £22.3 million in June and has already scored his first goal for the club during the 3-1 win over San Jose Earthquakes.

Memphis finished as the Eredivisie’s top scorer with 22 goals last season but the Netherlands international is adamant that he needs to improve in order to fulfil his potential in the Premier League.

“I’m honest – of course I want to be a legend,” the Dutchman told Sky Sports.

“I will put pressure on myself to play good every game. I’m still young, I have to improve, the Premier League is different so we will see.

“I have to do my job, so then yeah, maybe in time I can be a legend. But to have those positive sounds from the fans and the legends that talk about me, I’m grateful for that.”

Van Gaal handed Memphis his senior debut with the Netherlands national side and the forward is delighted to have linked up with the 63-year-old once again.

“He’s a great, great manager,” he said.

“He can make players a lot better. I feel I will be a better player every time I train with him. I feel stronger, that’s one of the things he can really do to you.”

Dzeko left out due to possible Manchester City exit, confirms Pellegrini

The former Wolfsburg striker looks set to leave this summer and played no part against suitors Roma on Tuesday, while midfielder Yaya Toure expects to see out his contract

edindzeko-cropped_1bwurw8ofmgd21x72isru30yny

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says that striker Edin Dzeko was left out of their pre-season encounter with Roma due to uncertainty over his future at the club.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina international has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium for many months and his exit is expected to be completed soon as the Giallorossi look to tie up a deal.

Dzeko played no part as the two sides met in the International Champions Cup on Tuesday, with Pellegrini confirming that it was a direct result of the transfer negotiations.

“Edin didn’t play the last game as it’s not clear if he will continue here but he is still working here with the whole squad,” the City boss told reporters.

Ahead of an encounter with Real Madrid on Friday, Pellegrini also announced that Fabian Delph would likely make his debut following his move from Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, fellow midfielder Yaya Toure was also in attendance and, when quizzed about his future, the Ivorian declared his intention to stay.

“There was too much speculation about me leaving,” said Toure. “It’s clear that I have my contract at City and I want to see out my contract.”

Meanwhile, Pellegrini, a former Real Madrid coach, is looking forward to facing his former employers in front of a huge crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

“We are in pre-season and it’s a friendly but the fans deserve a good game – I’m sure Real Madrid and us will play a good game,” he enthused. “Playing in front of 90,000 is big for the players – although the result is not important, both teams will try to win.

“It’s always special to play against Real Madrid, especially because of the way the fans supported me when I left there.”
