With the support of fans, host Can Tho began its attack right from the first minute of the match. However, the visiting team opened the scoring in the 30th minute, thanks to the skills of Cheikh Abass Dieng.

Three minutes later, Oseni Ganiyu Bolaji scored the second goal for Binh Duong.

The match became more interesting as the hosts continued to launch attacks to even the score, but failed.

In the 86th minute, after receiving a pass from Oseni, three-time Golden Ball winner Vinh headed the ball past goalkeeper Bui The Anh to raise the score to 3-0.

It was during the last minutes of the match that Nguyen Van Quy narrowed the gap for Can Tho to 3-1.

Among other matches of the V. League 1 played yesterday, Song Lam Nghe An crushed Thanh Hoa 4-0 at Vinh Stadium; SHB Da Nang bested Hai Phong 2-0 at Chi Lang Stadium; and Sanna Khanh Hoa tied goalless with Dong Tam Long An.

In related news, Ha Noi T&T defeated Dong Nai 2-0 at Hang Day Stadium in an early match of the sixth round of the tournament on Saturday.

Both sides started the game at a slow pace, as it was a cold, rainy day. However, the hosts launched an uninterrupted attack several minutes into the game to score a goal.

Coach Phan Thanh Hung of Ha Noi T&T used his two strongest strikers, Hoang Vu Olaleye Samson and Damian Marronkle Gonzalo, in this match with the hope of earning three points. However, both Gonzalo and Samson failed to score, even though they had a few chances.

After the break, Samson received a red card due to an error he made with Dong Nai’s Huynh Phu.

Despite lacking a striker, the hosts played determinedly, and Nguyen Van Quyet scored two goals to finish the match.

In other matches played on Saturday, Dong Thap beat Quang Nam 3-0, and national favourites Hoang Anh Gia Lai lost to dark horse Quang Ninh Coal 1-2.

General Director of JMG Jean Marc Guillou, Chairman of HAGL Club Doan Nguyen Duc, and Chairman of NutiFood Tran Thanh Hai were part of the occasion when the contract was signed in HCM City on Saturday.

The training model of this institute will be similar to those in other football institutes of JMG, which is a global sports organisation and training company.

Sixty sportspersons to receive support for int’l contests

Head of the Viet Nam Sports Administration Vuong Bich Thang said that up to 60 sportspersons will receive special support to win at upcoming international competitions.

These competitors must be training in sporting disciplines that are always organised at the Asian Games and Olympics. Their performance during training and competitions must be close to the top three spots in international tournaments, and they must show good potential of winning a berth in next year’s Olympics in Brazil.

After being selected, the players will enjoy better salaries and nutrition regimes as well as healthcare services. Experienced foreign experts will be invited to take care of them, and the sportspersons will also get opportunities to take part in intensive training courses and competitions abroad.

Thang said that another list of about 100 sportspersons will be made for those who will compete in lower-level events such as the Southeast Asian Games, and young players who show great potential for the future.

The administration will cover all expenses, which will be about VND 500 billion (US$23.8 million) in 2015.

V-League 2015 is on interesting run: Toshiya Miura

Toshiya Miura, coach of the men’s national football team, has been keeping a close eye on every single move of the 2015 V-League, seeking to discover outstanding players eligible for the national squads.

Meeting with the media, the Japanese tactician said that the opening stage of this year’s football season showed big steps forward regarding both match quality and the number of young players competing.

Q: You are busy these days, moving to different localities to watch 2015 V-League matches, aren’t you?

A: That’s right. No sooner had I returned to Vietnam from my holiday in Japan than V-League clashes pushed me to work. Despite having to move constantly in the past few days, I felt very happy and each journey also improved my knowledge of V-League, clubs and players as well as the Vietnamese culture and people.

Moreover, the 2015 V-League is proving to be interesting. All the matches I watched had a good level of expertise and strong determination from players on the field. I seem to have been given more energy thanks to the exciting matches in the past rounds of play.

Q: How does the 2015 V-League differ from the previous one, especially regarding issues with the level of expertise?

A: It is clear that this season has fewer foreign players. According to regulations, each team is allowed to put a maximum of two foreigners onto the field instead of three as in the previous years, which means that an additional 14 Vietnamese players have been given the opportunity to perform in each round of the 2015 V-League.

As a national team coach, I will have more players to consider and select from for the national squad and U-23 team. I myself always want to conquer and achieve the best results, so with a large supply of players constantly competing in the V-League, I will be able to choose the best ones for both teams in preparation for international competitions in 2015.

Q: Besides the changes brought about by limiting the number of foreign players, what else from the 2015 V-League impresses you?

A: Of course yes. I saw the teams’ registration lists for this season and realised that the average age of each team was younger compared to the 2014 season. This means that the clubs have included more young players in their main lineups.

Some of these youngsters may not be used regularly in the V-League, but that they have the chance to train and experience the atmosphere of the national championship will be very useful to them in the next football seasons.

Q: How do you evaluate the playing styles of 2015 V-League clubs?

A: V-League clubs have relatively diverse playing styles. Some like to attack such as Hanoi T&T and Becamex Binh Duong, while others favour a solid defense including LG Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa or Dong Tam Long An. It’s up to each manager.

Q: Regarding the supporters at stadiums, what do you think about the 2015 V-League atmosphere?

A: I have come to recognise that there are considerable changes on stands this season, including the larger number of supporters at stadiums and the more systematic supporting styles they have. The V-League needs to maintain the animated atmosphere on stands with much more exciting matches and recreation activities on the sidelines of the games. With the current proceedings, I believe that the V-League will continue developing strongly in the future.

Hai Phong to play Da Nang

The Hai Phong team will travel to the central beach city to face SHB Da Nang in the sixth round match of the Toyota V.League 1 tomorrow.

20150201094642-8

Two members of both the teams will play opposite each other in their first ever clash at the national premier league, where Hai Phong has topped the rankings and Da Nang is struggling at the bottom rung.

However, no one would have an expected a clash between two former national players Le Huynh Duc, the experienced manager of Da Nang, and Nguyen Viet Hoang, a first time coach for the Hai Phong team.

Duc will not be in-charge this time as he is in Hue taking part in his father-in-law’s funeral.

After rumours started circulating about Duc’s shaky position following the team’s four losses and one draw, the Da Nang managing board secured his future.

Da Nang was being considered as one of the title favourites ahead of the league, and after their finishing fourth last season.

“We could not imagine such a bad start. This is the second time in our history after the first time seven years ago when we only had our first win in the seventh round,” said SHB Da Nang Chairman Bui Xuan Hoa.

“I think our results are pretty bad, but it has still not reached a crisis stage. We need to improve the situation and become a little lucky,” said Hoa.

“The club leaders strongly believe in Duc and also our players. The poor results stem from different reasons, and are not only because of the coach,” Hoa stated.

Despite facing an in-form Hai Phong, Da Nang plans to record its first win on the home ground of Chi Lang Stadium.

Hoa said the most important task now is to lighten the heavy pressure on players and strengthen the front line with a qualified foreign striker during the second leg of the tournament.

Da Nang has two foreign strikers, but they have not scored any goals in the last five matches.

Apart from the absence of the head coach tomorrow, they will also miss their national forward Ho Ngoc Thang, who suffered a knee injury last week and has been rested for a month.

Although he is different from his counterpart, Hoang seems to be having the best time, even though this is his first season as a coach.

Hai Phong entered the league as an underdog last season, when the team was ranked tenth out of 12 teams. Its players are not big stars and Hoang was reluctantly chosen as the coach of the team.

However he made a big bang, guiding his team to the leading place with a no-loss run.

He also transformed his players into real goal hunters – Errol Anthony Stevens and Andre Diego Fagan – who have scored eight out of the team’s 10 goals. His defenders worked really hard saving their net during the first four matches and suffered two goal losses last weekend.

The six round will also see an unequal match between hosts Can Tho and defending champions Becamex Binh Duong.

Can Tho are at the next-to-bottom position, while Binh Duong lost their top seat last week.

In Nghe An, former champions Song Lam Nghe An will host Thanh Hoa.

Sanna Khanh Hoa will play against Dong Tam Long An in Nha Trang City.

Quang Nam will play Dong Thap; Hoang Anh Gia Lai will compete with Quang Ninh Coal and Ha Noi T&T will host Dong Nai.

Struggling Vietnam football club hope to lure fans with half-Korean pop star

Football supporters are expected to fill the stadium where V-League 1 side Dong Thap FC will play this weekend, but it could well be a bitter irony for the club’s players as the fans may not be there to cheer for them.

ajkqRVTS
Dong Thap FC, which are only three notches from the bottom of the standings in Vietnam’s top-flight football league, told fans via Facebook on Wednesday that half-Korean singer Hari Won will perform at their match against QNK Quang Nam on Saturday.
The news has intrigued Dong Thap FC supporters, many of whom did not bother to conceal that they would go to the stadium only to see Hari, who was born to a South Korean mother and a Vietnamese father, in the flesh.
“Hari Won? Yeah, let’s get to the match,” and “Hari Won is so lovely. I love that. The stadium must be crowded then,” are among many similar comments posted on the official Facebook page of Dong Thap FC.
Hari is slated to sing four to five songs before the match, and during halftime.
She said Thursday on her Facebook page that she is looking forward to the show in Dong Thap, a Mekong Delta province where the club are headquartered, because it will be the first time she has performed at a sporting event.
Inviting a hot star to perform at the stadium is arguably an effort by Dong Thap FC to lure more fans and encourage the team at a time when they are struggling to escape the bottom group.
The club, led by Pham Cong Loc, currently stand in 11th out of 14 places with only four points after five games. Their rivals, QNK Quang Nam, are in sixth place with six points.
Supporters who bought season tickets can also register to take a photograph with the singer. The precious chance will be given to the 20 earliest registrations, according to the fan club.
A source told Tuoi Tre News that the deal with Hari cost Dong Thap FC about US$2,000. It is worth noting that the Mekong Delta club do not have deep pockets.
Dong Thap FC would have failed to meet the financial standard to join the 2015 Toyota V-League 1 if they had not been able to find a sponsor at the last minute.
With a shallow budget, Dong Thap FC were thus unable to sign quality players, which has affected their performance and position in the table.
Many high-quality players have left the club for others who are willing to pay them well, which has transformed Dong Thap FC from a strong squad that have provided many good players for both the youth and senior national teams into a mediocre side on the Vietnamese football map.
The club won two league titles in 1989 and 1996 before repeatedly plunging to the V-League 2 and advancing to the V-League 1 again in recent years. They won the V-League 2 last season on a tight budget.
The V-League 1 is the top-tier league competition in Vietnam, followed by the V-League 2.
Fourteen clubs from the 14 provinces and cities with the most developed football programs in the nation are competing in the 2015 V-League 1, including Becamex Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Dong Tam Long An, Dong Thap, Hanoi T&T, Hai Phong, Hoang Anh Gia Lai, QNK Quang Nam, Sanna Khanh Hoa, SHB Da Nang, Song Lam Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Than Quang Ninh, and XSKT Can Tho.
The competition is organized in three stages with two breaks, starting January 4 and ending September 20.
The league will pause from February 15 to April 12 for players to take part in the qualifiers of the 2016 AFC U-23 Championship in Malaysia from March 23 to 31, and from May 3 to June 28 so the Vietnamese national team can attend the 28th SEA Games in Singapore.
Who is Hari Won?
Hari Won was born to a South Korean mother and a Vietnamese father in 1985.
The pop singer has won over many local fans with her fluent and sweet Vietnamese. She starred in a Vietnamese blockbuster that hit the silver screen earlier this month.
She has lived in Vietnam for the past 10 years and is set to establish a firm footing in Vietnamese showbiz as a versatile artist.
Her good looks, boisterous, outgoing personality, and adequate command of Vietnamese and English – apart from Korean – have added to her appeal.
Hari has become a household name to many young Vietnamese thanks to her regular appearances on reality shows such as “The Amazing Race Vietnam” and the Vietnamese version of “Thank God You’re Here,” an Australian improvised comedy.
She also acts as a host on several music shows, particularly those featuring such Korean bands as T-ara.
Hari starred in a local film titled “Chang Trai Nam Ay,” which hit screens nationwide on New Year’s Eve.
It remains to be seen whether the beautiful singer can inspire Dong Thap FC in the clash with QNK Quang Nam on the weekend

Official: Destro leaves Roma for AC Milan

The Italy interrnational has decided to accept the San Siro side’s offer and will continue his career at the Rossoneri

814492_heroa

AC Milan have announced that they have completed the signing of Mattia Destro from Roma on loan until the end of the season after the striker passed his medical, with a view to a permanent transfer for a fee believed to be in the region of €16 million.

The Rossoneri were desperate to add some fresh blood to their attack following their disappointing performances in the first half of the season and CEO Adriano Galliani already revealed earlier this week that they were closing in on Destro.

The 23-year-old has now completed his move to Filippo Inzaghi’s side, resulting in a return to Milan for a player who started his career in the Inter youth academy and also wore the jerseys of Genoa and Siena before joining Roma in July 2012.

The striker had since scored 24 goals in 57 Serie A appearances for the Stadio Olimpico side, but he was mainly warming the bench this term and has therefore been allowed to move on.

Destro will have to battle it out with attackers such as Jeremy Menez and Giampaolo Pazzini for the No.9 position at Milan.

Ronaldo is Madrid’s main man – Bale

The Wales international says the pair have never had a competitive relationship and admits he is in awe of his team-mate’s incredible strike rate

870182_heroa

Gareth Bale has acknowledged that Cristiano Ronaldo is Real Madrid’s “main man” and was aware he would remain the club’s star player upon signing for the club.

The 25-year-old became the world’s most expensive player upon signing for Madrid for €100 million in the summer of 2013, breaking the record €80m the club spent to acquire Ronaldo from Manchester United.

At the time there were rumours the three-time Ballon d’Or winner was unhappy at the money spent on bringing Bale to the club and dethroning him as the game’s costliest footballer, but the Wales star says the pair have never been in competition.

“I never really had a chat with Ronaldo regarding any competitive needle. I knew coming here that Cristiano was the main man,” the Welshman told Sport Magazine.

“Ronaldo is an amazing player. Just look at his goals-per-game here. I respect him, so we’ve got on very well since I’ve been here, on and off the field.”

Bale then went on to praise head coach Carlo Ancelotti and revealed the Italian has a great relationship with all of his players, even if he is not afraid to have a go at his squad every now and then.

“Carlo is quite laidback. He gives us the confidence to go on to the pitch and express ourselves. But it’s the closeness and connection that he has with the players that’s really special – he makes footballers want to run themselves into the ground for him.

“We’ve had some games where we’ve been in the lead and we’ve almost given it away – and after the game, Carlo has given us a good rollocking.

“But every good manager needs that side to him – and he’s shown over the years what a great manager and what an amazing person he is.”

Wenger: Gabriel can become instant Arsenal hit

The Gunners boss says the 24-year-old’s swift acclimatisation at Villarreal should help him settle in England and admits it was the club’s ‘responsibility’ to find defensive cover

794542_heroa

Arsene Wenger is confident new signing Gabriel Paulista can quickly adapt to the Premier League and has revealed the 24-year-old is in line to make his Arsenal debut in Sunday’s fixture against Aston Villa.

Gabriel completed his move from Villarreal on Wednesday and bolsters Wenger’s options in defence after Mathieu Debuchy was ruled out for three months with a dislocated shoulder, while Laurent Koscielny has only returned to regular action this month after an Achilles problem.

“He is a promising Brazilian defender,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.

“Just 24-years-old and we got the work permit. He has good pace, is good in the challenge and is tall, so he can adapt to English football.

“Maybe it will take some time to adapt completely, but overall it is very good to have him. This season he has played every game for Villarreal and we have seen him many times. We are convinced about his quality.

“He is very ambitious, focused and serious. That is important at a club like ours – you need to have a complete focus on your job. He has that.

“I like the players who come from nowhere and show they can adapt. From Brazil, he has adapted to Spain. That means he has already made it and adapted in another country, and so that is another important quality.”

Wenger also reiterated his desire to sign central defender this month and admits his options would have been limited even more if injuries continued to pile up.

“We needed some cover, or we would not be responsible,” he said.

“We needed another centre-back because we have lost Debuchy. Nacho Monreal can play centre-back and we are a bit short there if something happens, especially with the Achilles of Koscielny since the start of the season.

“[Gabriel] can play right-back and left-back, and that is of course a good quality as well.”
