Falzon, 27, has attended two football games at Old Trafford to watch the Brazilian player’s team since touching down in the UK on May 1 for a “fun little post season trip to the UK”.

On May 6, Falzon tweeted from what appeared to be a front-row seat of the stadium, “At Old Trafford watching Manchester United v Chelsea. WOW.”

Then on May 12, she took to Twitter to post, “Going to ManU v Swansea today. ManU will lift the cup & Sir Alex Ferguson’s last game as manager at Old Trafford. Its going to be incredible.”

The pair have also been linked on social media site Instagram with Anderson only following 251 out of his 34,000 followers – with Falzon being one of them. Adding to speculation the pair are romantically involved, Falzon has also recently become friends on Facebook with a woman named Manuela Brando, who the Man U midfielder refers to on social media as “mum”.

When The Daily Telegraph spoke to Falzon, she denied the pair were in a relationship.
Anderson, who has been signed with Manchester United since 2007, cost Old Trafford $25.7 million when he left Porto.

Falzon and her last boyfriend, ironman Matt Poole, split in January after two years together.

The pair cited long distance as the reason for the break-up.

Barcelona full-back Dani Alves has a place in Felipao’s squad despite being criticised this year for his form dropping, while Thiago Silva has secured a spot in the home tournament having ledc Paris Saint-Germain to success this season.

Tournament hosts Brazil have been drawn in the same group as Italy, Mexico and Japan and will kick-off the defence of their Confederations Cup crown against the latter of the trio on June 15.

Reading 0-2 Manchester City: Aguero & Dzeko get life without Mancini off to winning start

The visitors, with Brian Kidd in charge after the sacking of their manager the night before, see of Nigel Adkins’s already-relegated side, doubling their lead late on

280547hp2

Sergio Aguero’s first-half strike and Edin Dzeko’s late goal were enough to give Manchester City a 2-0 win over Reading and guarantee second place in the Premier League.
The Argentine scored his 17th of the season just before half-time following one of several breathtaking passing moves, with the Bosnian firing home after a great David Silva pass, while the hosts could have been demolished if not for Alex McCarthy’s superb display in goal.

Nigel Adkins retained the starting XI from Reading’s 4-2 win over Fulham while City caretaker boss Brian Kidd made four changes from the side beaten by Wigan in the FA Cup final, with Micah Richards, Joleon Lescott, Kolo Toure and James Milner replacing Pablo Zabaleta, Matija Nastasic, Vincent Kompany and Samir Nasri.

Milner carved out a terrific chance after just three minutes, skipping past the midfield to lay a crisp pass to Aguero on the right-hand side of the box, the Argentine drawing a fine double save from McCarthy.

McCarthy was called into action again and again, saving from Silva before the onslaught continued and Carlos Tevez set up Milner inside the box, the England international’s shot palmed away before Aguero’s strike on the rebound was blocked.

The hosts eventually broke into the City half and Hal Robson-Kanu had Joe Hart at full stretch with a great shot from long range.

The Royals were forcing themselves into the contest after a poor start and Garath McCleary drew Hart into another big save, the goalkeeper diving to his left to palm away a right-footed curler.

Tevez should have put City in front after half an hour but the Argentine mishit his shot from Yaya Toure’s dinked ball over the top.

Reading posed a large threat on the break and Robson-Kanu again tested Hart, this time with a placed effort from the edge of the box after Jobi McAnuff’s lay-off as the action swept from end to end.

Aguero finally put City into a deserved lead after 40 minutes, poking home from 10 yards after a tremendous passage of one-touch passing from a short corner by Milner and Silva. It was almost two for the striker a minute later but, once again, McCarthy pulled off a great save to deny him.

Reading should have been level after five minutes of the second half, Pavel Pogrebnyak heading right at Hart from close range from a tasty right-wing cross. City broke immediately and Tevez glided into the box, perhaps taking a touch too many before his eventual shot was sent over for a corner.

The away side were playing some truly sublime stuff in attack and another slick move saw the ball fall to Yaya Toure, the Ivorian forcing McCarthy into yet another great save.

City were inviting pressure and Reading almost made them pay for their missed chances, Adrian Mariappa with a good header from a cross that Hart picked out.

At the other end, McCarthy’s heroism continued, tipping Yaya Toure’s rising strike over the bar before Richards’s bicycle kick bounced wide of the post.

Mariappa was a bother in the air all evening and he very nearly got an equaliser for his side, heading Danny Guthrie’s delivery to the top corner only for Tevez to clear it off the line.

McCarthy had to make further saves from Gael Clichy and Yaya Toure in the final minutes, capping off a phenomenal display, but the goalkeeper was eventually beaten for a second time, substitute Dzeko firing home from Silva’s pass.

Premier League – Arsenal condemn Wigan to relegation

Premier League, Emirates Stadium – Arsenal 4 (Podolski 11, 68, Walcott 63, Ramsey 71) Wigan Athletic 1 (Maloney 45)

Wigan became the first FA Cup winners to be relegated from the top flight in the same season after a 4-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium sent them down.
Shaun Maloney’s free-kick sent Wigan into half-time on terms after Lukas Podolski had given Arsenal the lead.
But hopes of a dramatic escape were washed away by a flood of catastrophic defensive lapses as Arsenal struck three times in eight minutes through Theo Walcott, Podolski and Aaron Ramsey.
Wigan lurched painfully from triumph to despair just three days after winning the FA Cup for the first time in their history with a 1-0 win over Manchester City at Wembley.
Owner Dave Whelan now faces losing not only his club’s top flight status, but his manager Roberto Martinez and leading players including Maloney and Callum McManaman.
They are marooned in 18th place, four points behind Sunderland and five behind Aston Villa whom they play on the final day – those two clubs can breathe long sighs of relief after a trying season. Wigan join QPR and Reading in the Championship.
Arsenal now need a win at Newcastle on Sunday to guarantee fourth place and Champions League football at the expense of North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Martinez banned alcohol after Wigan’s Wembley triumph, but Arsenal attacked vigorously from the off in search of a Cup final hangover and found their opponents – metaphorically at least – reaching groggily for the Alka Seltzer after 72 hours of celebration.
Walcott, effervescent down the right wing, crossed for Santi Cazorla who nipped in front of his marker but headed wide of the right-hand post.
Wigan found themselves under the sort of pressure Manchester City could not muster and soon cracked in miserable fashion.
Cazorla delivered a corner from the Arsenal left and Podolski somehow found himself completely unmarked as he headed the bouncing ball in from six yards.
Roberto Martinez’s side barely had a kick, let alone a shot, in the first haf-hour, but they gradually came into the game through the ever-lively Maloney and McManaman.
Maloney won and scored the equalising free-kick amid controversy – the Scot appeared to back into Mikel Arteta as he was tackled but Mike Dean penalised the Arsenal captain.
Maloney punished him with a beautiful free-kick that flashed over the wall and into the right corner of the net.
Wigan needed victory to maintain any realistic chance of survival and continued to attack after the break – however without the injured Maynor Figueroa their awful defending cost them dear.
On 63 minutes Antolin Alcaraz failed to cut out a Santi Cazorla cross and Walcott stole in to finish from close range.
Shortly afterwards Podolski grabbed his second after Paul Scharner played him miles onside, allowing the German to collect a headed Cazorla through ball and lift the ball past Joel Robles.
Ramsey then drove the final nail in the coffin, dribbling inside from the left, deceiving Joel with his eyes and finding the far corner from a tight angle.
Poorly as Wigan defended, the damage was done well before tonight – though Martinez still emerges from this season with credit, he will wonder how a side capable of such heroics could end up in the second tier.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Theo Walcott (Arsenal): Not the most consistent, but Wigan’s obligation to attack provided him with space to attack, particularly in the second half when he took a more central role.

Messi out of action for up to three weeks

The Argentina international could miss the remainder of the 2012-13 campaign after a series of tests have revealed a thigh muscle injury.

279861hp2

Barcelona have received some disappointing news from the treatment table as they will have to make do without the services of star player Lionel Messi in the next two to three weeks due to a muscular problem.

The Argentina international picked up a thigh problem in Barca’s 2-1 Liga win over Atletico Madrid at the weekend and limped off the pitch halfway through the second half.

Messi underwent further examination on Tuesday to determined the extent of the knock and Barcelona have now announced that the prolific attacker will be sidelined for at least two weeks.

“Tests have revealed that Lionel Messi has picked up an injury in the femoral biceps of his right leg. He will be unavailable for two to three weeks,” a statement on the club’s official website reads.

The 25-year-old will consequently miss the Liga games against Valladolid and Espanyol and is doubtful for Barca’s last game of the season at home against Malaga on June 1.

Premier League – Manchester City sack Roberto Mancini

Manchester City have confirmed the sacking of manager Roberto Mancini.

1004857-16298380-640-360

The Italian, who joined the club in late 2009, won the FA Cup in 2011 and the Premier League title last season.

This season, however, the club have lost out to neighbours Manchester United in the league, suffered a shock defeat to Wigan Athletic in Sunday’s FA Cup final, and were eliminated in the group stages of the Champions League.

Rumours have been swelling that Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini will replace the Italian, though the Chilean denied any such agreement was in place.

Mancini, who had four years left on a five-year contract, has been reportedly paid £28 million in compensation by the club for the termination of his contract – although contrasting reports suggest that could be limited to £7m, the equivalent of a single year’s wages, by a clause in the deal he signed last summer.

Assistant manager Brian Kidd will take the reins for the club’s two remaining Premier League fixtures this season.

“It is with regret that Manchester City Football Club announces that Roberto Mancini has been relieved of his duties as Manchester City Manager,” the club wrote in a statement.

“This has been a difficult decision for the owner, Chairman and Board to make and it is the outcome of a planned end of season review process that has been brought forward in light of recent speculation and out of respect for Roberto and his extensive contributions to the Football Club.”

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak paid tribute to Mancini, despite his axing: “Roberto’s record speaks for itself and he has the respect and gratitude of Sheikh Mansour, myself and the board for all of his hard work and commitment over the last three and a half years. He has clearly also secured the love and respect of our fans.

“He has done as he promised and delivered silverware and success, breaking the club’s 35-year trophy drought and securing the title in 2012. I would like to personally and publicly thank him for his dedication to the progress that he has overseen and for his support and continued friendship.”
