HFF history

Idea of the establishment

Southern Football Federation was established in June 1933 originating from the idea of Ernest Bec who then elected as chairman of the Federation. Mr.Saint Paul was the General Secretary. After 15 years of operation, Mr.Ernest Bec gave up his chair to Mr.Nguyen Phuoc Vong who used to be the vice chairman and efficient partner of Mr.Ernest Bec for several years before. The General Secretary was also changed to Mr.Nguyen Huu Luong. Including some French men such as Bermann, Goldmann, Lefême, Bouzenic were still parts of the Federation until 1955 when they withdrew themselves from the Executive Committee.

In 1954, the Football Federation of Vietnam joined in Asia Football Confederation. One year latter it became a member of FIFA.

The establishment of Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation

After the unification of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation (HFF) was officially founded on 04/01/1990 by the suggestion of Mr.Nguyen Van Huan after 15 years out of operation.

Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation term I (1990-1997) was founded with 25 members. Mr.Nguyen Van Huan was the president. Vice presidents included Mr.Nguyen Tan Minh, Mr.Nguyen Van Duc and Mr.Tran Quoc Huy. Mr.Nguyen Thanh Toan played as General Secretary. The congress was held at Thang Loi hotel on 04/01/1990.

The remarkable point of Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation (HFF) term I is that the Federation has elected a highly social Executive Committee which gathered people from various parts of the society into a social organization of football.

The Federation then announced to be officially in operation. Only one month later, HCMC People’s Committee showed their support to HFF by recognizing and offering help for HFF to run. Latter, HFF was in its first steps to develop infrastructure by fixing Thong Nhat stadium, completing the lighting system so that they could have competitions at night, upgrading other facilities, launching profitable activities to reinforce financial strength. The Federation also started to create its own symbol and logo.

One of the key points contributing to the development of the City’s football is that the Federation has oriented to raise it to professional football. “It is impossible to attain excellent achievements if we just maintain amateur and casual football in which the players are not considered as a career”.

The establishment with  HFF term I together with judicious orientations have turned HCMC football into a new period of development, partly contributing to the improvement of domestic football at that time as well as making good condition to expand HFF activities in the future.

Arsenal to play first-ever Vietnam game on July 17

Arsenal will take on the Vietnam national football team in a friendly on July 17 in Hanoi, under an agreement signed Thursday in the capital between the Gunners and two local sponsors of the game.

Arsenal will become the first-ever English Premier League team to play a match in the Southeast Asian nation, with its top players set to be enlisted for the visit as part of its pre-season Asia Tour 2013.

“Arsenal has so many loyal supporters in Asia and we are delighted to be visiting Vietnam in July to play a match in Hanoi. Everyone at Arsenal is proud to be the first Premier League team to play a match in Vietnam and to be spending time in this wonderful country. Arsène Wenger, the players and all the staff have hugely enjoyed our tours to Asia in the past two years, and we are all looking forward to visiting Vietnam as part of our Asia Tour 2013,” chief executive Ivan Gazidis said on Arsenal’s official website.

Arsenal marketing director Angus Kinnear said during the signing ceremony that the club will bring its first team to Vietnam, which includes Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud, and Thomas Vermaelen.

The last three were seen in a video yesterday saying that they are eager for the trip and wish Vietnamese fans luck in getting a ticket for the game at the 40,000-seat My Dinh National Stadium.

Arsenal is scheduled to arrive in Hanoi on July 15 and have a training session, open freely to fans, one day later. Manager Arsène Wenger and his players will also engage in photo shoots and give autographs to their fans.

The team will stay at the Sheraton Hanoi Hotel during the visit.

Arsenal’s confirmation of the Vietnam trip follows negotiations between the English side and the Vietnam Football Federation in March, with sponsorships from local lender Eximbank and private property group HAGL.

The Gunners will also play the Indonesia national team on July 14 in Jakarta and then clash with Arsène Wenger’s former club, Nagoya Grampus, in Tokyo on July 22.

Their tour will end on July 26 when Arsenal faces Urawa Red Diamonds in Saitama Prefecture.

FA Cup: Has the World’s Oldest Cup Contest Finally Lost Its Magic?

As the world’s oldest football knockout competition, The FA Cup has played a storied role in the history of the beautiful game.

FACup659

For over a century, the FA Cup Final has been an indelible part of English national consciousness. If you weren’t lucky enough to go to the game, the whole of FA Cup Final Saturday would build up to 3 p.m., where all eyes would be on Wembley.

Rival broadcasters ITV and the BBC would start their coverage earlier and earlier each year to pull in viewers. One season, coverage started at 8 a.m. on the Saturday morning and some of the hours were filled with a snooker tournament!

The final generated so much excitement that teams would always release a single during the build up: who could forget The Anfield Rap?!

The FA Cup Final has also produced some fantastic games over the years.

In 1977, Manchester Utd denied Liverpool a treble-winning season with a brilliant 2-1 victory.

In 1988, Wimbledon pulled off one of the biggest giant-killing feats of all time, also denying Liverpool a league and cup double near the height of their European pomp.

More recently in 1996, Eric Cantona’s ice-cool finish was enough to separate Manchester Utd and Liverpool in a highly memorable match. (This writer realizes that Liverpool were on the losing side in all three examples, but no bias is intended!)

With the 132nd edition of the FA Cup Final approaching, however, the showpiece match of English football does not appear to be in such good health.

As Wigan prepare to face Manchester City at Wembley, there is none of the usual fanfare. Suffice to say, neither team has put a celebratory song in the charts.

The Latics find themselves in yet another Premier League relegation battle, and some may even view the match as a distraction in their quest for top-flight survival.

Manchester City, meanwhile, will view the trophy as nothing more than a distant consolation prize after their feckless attempt at retaining their Premier League title.

In years gone by, there would be no other games on the weekend of the FA Cup final. This year we have a full Premier League program, along with championship playoffs. There’s even a Premier League match earlier on the same day.

Without a day dedicated to it, the final has certainly lost its sense of occasion.

Another bone of contention is that kickoff time has once again been shifted from its traditional 3 p.m. slot to 5:15 p.m. in order to maximise potential viewing figures. This move appears to have been made at the expense of the fans in attendance, who may struggle to get back home on public transportation after the match.

The struggle for TV viewing figures is indicative of the decline of the competition.

In decades gone by, every man and his dog would stop and watch the game. According to Sky, over 11 million people in the UK watched Roberto Di Matteo’s early goal for Chelsea against Middlesbrough. Five years later when Chelsea met Arsenal, there were only 6.3 million viewers. Only 5.6 million watched Portsmouth face Cardiff in 2008.

The calibre of competitors in the final may have something to do with the decline in interest. In the ’80s and ’90s, the final was dominated by Manchester Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Watching Portsmouth play a championship side seems much less glamorous in comparison.

The trend of big clubs taking the competition less seriously has created less appetising finals. In this campaign, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, QPR, Aston Villa and Norwich were all eliminated by lower league competition. Unexpected defeats are all part of the excitement of the FA Cup, but too many of them certainly detract from the quality in the latter stages of the competition.

Perhaps the death knell for the competition was Manchester Utd’s unprecedented decision to pull out of the competition in 2000. Instead of defending the trophy they won the previous year, they chose to focus on competing in the Club World Cup (which they were eliminated from after failing to clear the group stage).

As Wigan enter Saturday’s match with their minds elsewhere and Manchester City assuming a win, it’s a sad fact that this game is seen as little else but a distraction for clubs of all sizes and statures.

The cup may even have lost its shine for lower league clubs, for whom it has always been an opportunity to punch above their weight.

Many Millwall supporters, for example, viewed their incredible journey to the semifinals as a distraction from a fairly dismal campaign in the Championship, from which they could have been relegated on the final day last weekend.

In an era of packed fixture lists and high financial rewards for finishing well in the league, the FA Cup seems to have become a relic of the past. Unless the prize is made greater (a Champions League playoff place perhaps?) the decline will only continue.

The FA Cup isn’t going anywhere, but sadly it’s magic disappeared long ago.

Ancelotti pays tribute to ‘legend and hero’ Sir Alex Ferguson ahead of Manchester United exit

Paris Saint-Germain manager Carlo Ancelotti has hailed retiring “legend and hero” Sir Alex Ferguson, insisting the outboundManchester United boss deserves all the praise he will get.

_67474817__alferguson
As exclusively revealed by Goal.com on Wednesday, Sir Alex hand-picked David Moyes as his successor, who was unveiled on Thursday, after a 26-year reign filled with titles and trophies. Ancelotti did the double over Sir Alex during Chelsea’s league and cup double in the 2009-10 season, and revealed they always got on well off the pitch.

“He’s a symbol, a legend and a hero for Manchester United,” the Italian wrote in a column for La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“But at the same time he’s humble, modest and still has the passion of a child in carrying out his work.

“I don’t remember the exact moment I met him for the first time, but I know we hit it off immediately. We were adversaries.

“At times I won and at times he won, but we were never enemies. At the end of each game we’d enjoy a good glass of wine and a laugh. This is the kind of football I like, and that Sir Alex likes as well.”

Ancelotti hinted that Sir Alex’s longevity has been down to a good relationship with the club’s owners and chiefs; something which has brought great success in an era of swift managerial changes.

“No director or president has ever questioned him,” he added. “This should be a lesson to those in the world of football, since far too often you find a lack of patience in this environment.

“Coaches need time to convey their thoughts, to make themselves understood and to give shape to their ideas of the game. Sir Alex had this time.”

Moyes clearly has big shoes to fill, but Ancelotti believes the new Red Devils manager simply needs to carry on where his predecessor left off.

“For us coaches, Ferguson’s adventure is a model to be followed,” he continued. “I think his greatest achievement was transmitting a sense of belonging to the players he guided.

“Being a part of Manchester United, being a Red Devil, is something that will never fade.

“For once a withdrawn and simple man like him will accept the plaudits. In the end, they’re justified. And most importantly, he deserves them.”

Real life Mario Kart! Milan have banned Balotelli from mini karting… so he takes his £200k Ferrari onto Italian circuit instead!

Crazy Mario Balotelli has taken his new £200,000 white Ferrari for a spin on a go kart track.

Italy Soccer Serie A

Balotelli, 22, is well known for his love of karting but is forbidden by his contract with AC Milan to drive the mini karts because of injury.

However to get his va va voom, bosses at the track allowed him to take the gleaming Ferrari 450 out for a few circuits of the high speed circuit.

article-2322069-19B340B7000005DC-403_634x373

The former Manchester City star turned up at the Pala K karting complex on the outskirts of Milan with a group of pals – with former girlfriend Fanny Neguesha nowhere in sight.

But then again he did buy the top of the range sports car to console himself after he split from her last week – despite claiming she ‘was the one’.

article-2322069-19B340C9000005DC-51_634x458

He spent almost an hour at the club speeding through the curves and chicanes of the 600 metre track in his Ferrari as his pals cheered him on from the stands before they went for a bite to eat.

Balotelli, who had a go kart track built in the garden of his Cheshire home when he was at City, is a regular at the Pala K centre and would often turn up even while living in England.

Pala K owner Joe Ghiringhelli said: ‘Mario loves coming here but he’s not allowed to race the karts because of his AC Milan contract – they are worried he may injure himself.

‘I must say though that we have never had any accidents here so I’m going to write to AC Milan and tell them they have no need to worry about the players using the karts.

‘Mario is a regular visitor here and would come over even when he was playing in England – he loves the karts and driving although he said he could never get used to driving in England because over there they drive on the other side of the road.

article-2322069-19B340BB000005DC-48_634x396

We let him take his new Ferrari out on the track and he was roaring around laughing and having fun. Fanny was no where to be seen but as we all know Mario is a bit of a shooter and won’t be too worried about her, he will be with someone new before you know it.’

His visit to the track came ahead of AC Milan’s 4-0 win over Pescara with Balotelli bagging a brace taking his tally to 11 goals in as many games – City boss Roberto Mancini must be wondering why he couldn’t produce that form in the Premier League.

Gareth Bale attempts to trademark heart-shaped goal celebration

Gareth Bale has filed an application with the Intellectual Property Office to trademark a logo featuring the heart-shaped hand gesture that he does after scoring goals.

RTR3BX02

It’s an odd move, considering the fact that Bale was far from the first player to do it, but to distinguish his trademark request from any others who might have the same idea, he included his No. 11 in the center of the heart-shaped space between the two hands.

Here’s the application and the proposed logo…

balemark

From this, we can see that Bale has his eyes on some potential merchandising opportunities, including jewellery, leather goods and clothing (the parasols, whips and saddlery options sound especially interesting).

Though it remains to be seen how many people would want to own products featuring such a overdone hand gesture, it seems Bale is taking cues from Leo Messi, who unveiled his far superior logo in 2011.

Forget PFA awards and transfer rumors involving Real Madrid and Manchester United, you know a footballer has truly made it in the modern age when he has his own legally binding trademark.

MOYES DEATH THREATS

DAVID Moyes was blitzed with death threats yesterday from Manchester United and Everton fans who are enraged by his club swap.

_67490240_165110124

Angry supporters hurled abuse from all sides as the Everton boss was confirmed as the replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

United fans hit their new manager with threats of violence if he failed to repeat Sir Alex’s success or let star striker Wayne Rooney, 27, leave.

And Everton supporters warned Moyes, 50, against raiding their club for their stars when he takes charge of the champions in July.

Police were last night monitoring social networking traffic following 71-year-old Fergie’s shock decision to quit.

They could act on anyone thought to be making direct threats rather than just indulging in football banter.

Josh Gittings tweeted: “David Moyes I’m warning you…Come to United and f*** us up and I will personally kill your family! That is all.’’

Dane Pearson-McGloin messaged: “I’ll tell you right now Moyes, if you sell Rooney imma kill yo ass!’’

Tim McKuhen wrote: “If Moyes buys Baines off us honestly I’d kill him.’’

RaziyaM94 tweeted: “So David Moyes is the person I chose to kill.’’

Dayoogunleye1 messaged: “Some one shd kill Moyes so he won’t take over.’’

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright, 67, and United’s American owners the Glazer family also received threats.

Dr_gazthefoo_MD tweeted: “Kenwright, if Moyes goes and you replace him with either Rafa or Pardew I will look for you. I WILL find you. And I WILL kill you.’’

Tom Ellison wrote: “I swear if Moyes is the next manager I’m going to go and kill them f***ing Glazers.’’

William Haszard said: “If it’s Mark Hughes I will kill Kenwright.’’

Andrew Jopson tweeted: “Take the car, drive to Goodison, kill Bill, grab Moyes, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint and wait for all this to blow over.’’

Manchester United had no comment to make last night about the messages.

But club officials were left red-faced yesterday after announcing Moyes’s appointment on United’s Facebook page and then removing it because the deal had not been signed.

Last night bookies made former Preston North End boss Moyes 5-6 to claim a trophy in his first season.

He is 4-6 to take 28-year-old Everton and England star Leighton Baines with him to Old Trafford and Ladbrokes are offering 2-1 that Cristiano Ronaldo, 28, returns to United.

Greater Manchester MPs Graham Stringer, 63, and Paul Goggins, 59, tabled an Early Day Motion in which they said Sir Alex should be “immediately ennobled and elevated to the House of Lords”.

Bookie William Hill made him 1-2 to receive a peerage – and the 6-4 favourite to pick up the 2013 BBC Sports Personality Of The Year award.

Staff at a Pizza Hut restaurant in Manchester have commemorated Sir Alex’s retirement by wearing red armbands and handing out chewing gum at the end of the meal.

2013 V-League round 9 preview: Top and Bottom

The first leg of 2013 V – League is closing after 3 more rounds, therefore this round is an opportunity for teams who are standing at the bottom of table such as B.Binh Duong, K.Kien Giang, DTLA or XT Saigon to rise up off the bottom. Whereas on top, SHB. Da Nang was allowed to delay its confrontation against HAGL in round 9 that would be an opportunity for SLNA to extend gap.

DTLA-Trai-quyet-co-diem-truoc-V.Hai-Phong2

DTLA ( left) is decisive to win over Hai Phong

K.Kien Giang and B.Binh Duong also got their first win this season in round 8. It will be a strong motivation to be confident in this coming round. Guesting at Dong Nai, B.Binh Duong especially manager Thuy Hai had cafefully examined their opponent play. Three points at Go Dau stadium last week raised B.Binh Duong’s hopeful confidence for points from Bien Hoa stadium.

It’s a big challenge for K.Kien Giang because they will visit Hanoi T&T’s Hang Day stadium. Though they still aim for points before this visit, Coach Phan Thanh Hung and players’ failure in round 8 will prevent K.Kien Giang from winning, moreover Ha Noi T&T certainly to make full use of home advantage to continue chasing the top position on table. XT Saigon is also in difficulty when they visit Ninh Binh who had an impressive 4-1 win over SHB. Da Nang. Though host line up will be only absent Ngoc Lung because of fine; visitors XT Saigon has disadvantage because Nguyen Rogerio’s three yellow cards prevent him from playing this round, in addition to, defense Viet Cuong’s disciplinary isn’t over.

In the bottom group, DTLA is the most comfortable side when they host V.Hai Phong, however the absence of captain Viet Thang is also difficulty for Coach Vital and his men. However, in order not to be left on bottom of the table, It’s certain that “Bricks” will rise up to get 3 points. The most wanted game in round 9 of 2013 V – League Round 9 is confrontation between two neighbors Thanh Hoa vs Nghe An. Northern central derby between Thanh Hoa and SLNA promises to be attractive and thrilling. Not only emulation between two “neighbors”, Nghe An Football has developed much than Thanh Hoa, Nghe An produced many football talent of Vietnam. Nevertheless, Their confrontations have never lacked of excitement.

2013 V-League Round 9 certainly witnesses spectacularly raising up from the bottom whereas SLNA, Ha Noi T&T and V.Hai Phong on the top will know how to extend a safe gap to others.
