Vietnam agrees to reduce maximum age of 29th SEA Games football players

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has the same view with the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) on reducing the maximum age of football players attending the Southeast Asian Games 2017 from 23 to 21.

20151109092240-2

On November 5, the AFF proposed reducing the age of the football players from under 23 (U23) to under 21, starting from the 29th SEA Games in 2017, held in Malaysia. The AFF will make the final decision on this change at its next meeting in Sydney (Australia) on December 6.

Explaining the proposal, AFF general secretary Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad said the purpose of lowering the age to 21 is to give more chances for young players and to help Southeast Asian countries prepare for the 2020 Olympics in Japan.

The AFF’s proposal must be approved by state members, including Vietnam. The VFF general secretary said that two years are enough to prepare for the change.

With this change, member countries will have to invest more in younger players to have the best U21 teams.

If the AFF proposal is approved by all members, Vietnamese top young players Tuan Anh, Cong Phuong and Xuan Truong will be too old to attend the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia.

I’m not smart enough to be FIFA president, says Ronaldo

World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo is not clever enough to become FIFA president one day in the future, he told Reuters on Monday.

Soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo (L) and Manchester United’s former manager Alex Ferguson pose for photographers on the red carpet at the world premiere of “Ronaldo” at Leicester Square in London, Britain November 9, 2015.

The Real Madrid and Portugal forward was in London to attend the opening of his film ‘Ronaldo’ along with Alex Ferguson, the former manager of his old club Manchester United.

“The people who really know me, they are not going to be surprised about the movie,” Ronaldo told Reuters.

Real’s leading goal-scorer said he had no desire to move into a career in football administration, particularly the role of president of governing body FIFA which will be decided in February following huge controversy over incumbent Sepp Blatter.

“I’m not that smart to be president. I do not worry about that or about what is going to happen in my future,” Ronaldo said.

“I think I’m still able to play a few more years of football but in the future I have other projects that will be more interesting than being president.”

The film, made by the team behind documentaries on racing driver Ayrton Senna and singer Amy Winehouse, looks at Ronaldo’s professional career and dwells on tender moments with his young son.

“You have a chance to see the real Cristiano,” Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes said.

Ronaldo, 30, is captain of Portugal who last month secured their place in next year’s European Championship in France.

“I will help the team and I will give my best like always and let’s see what happens,” he said. “I am looking forward to that.”

The Japanese student team tied with Brazilian Bangu Atletico 1-1 in the first match, while Quang Ninh Coal and Dong Tam Long An shared a point after their all-Vietnamese 1-1 game.

In the opener, Asakawa Denso took the Japanese side ahead in the 36th minute converting a corner kick with a closed-range header to the right corner. Goalie Ubirajara Motta tried his best but could only touch the ball as it sailed past.

F. de Lima levelled the score for Bangu Atletico with the second finish, after the first one hit the cross bar, which came to him again five minutes after the interval.

The student squad could have made a big change in the rankings had they not missed their penalty in the 83rd mark when Kiyotani’s shoot-out kissed the pole and flew out.

With four points after two matches, Bangu Atletico are in top position and will play Dong Tam Long An tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Japanese students are in third place with two points and will next face Quang Ninh Coal.

In the second match yesterday, Santos opened the score for Quang Ninh in the 67th minute.

Coelho brought the game to life with his straight shot five minutes near the end, helping the V. League 1 former champions remain in second position in the group with two points.

Quang Ninh Coal, who missed their first victory, are at the bottom with one point in the pocket.

Today, the last round match of the Group A will be played.

Hosts Becamex Binh Duong will meet South Korean students and Myanmar’s Yadanarbon FC will face local Sanna Khanh Hoa.

Controversy mars local tournament

Myanmar’s Yadanarbon FC was judged to have lost to a South Korean student team 0-3 after the Myanmar team objected to a referee’s call during a second Group A match of the International Football Tournament-Binh Duong Television Cup yesterday.

Trọng tài Phùng Đình Dũng rút ra chiếc thẻ đỏ cho Charles Huberson Don của đội bóng Yadanarbon

The controversy occurred in the 68th minute. Dway Ko Ko Chit committed an error with a South Korean player, and referee Phung Dinh Dung then issued Chit a yellow card. However, it was Chit’s second yellow card in this match, meaning he had to leave the game.

In arguing with Dung’s decision, Chit and his teammates surrounded the referee.

After that, Yadanarbon FC players stopped playing in protest of Dung, as they thought he had judged the match incorrectly.

Earlier, Yadanarbon’s Charles Huberson Don also received a red card in the 34th minute when his team took a 1-0 lead.

In the final minutes of the first half, Jeong Wonjin of South Korea levelled the score. After the break, the South Korean team easily scored two more goals, until Yadanarbon received his second red card.

Yadanarbon received six yellow cards and two red cards in 66 minutes of playing their rival in this match.

“We have held a meeting with the match’s supervisor and representatives of both teams. Myanmar’s team was very sorry about this breakdown and the squad agreed with the event organising board’s decision of judging them to have lost to the South Korean team 0-3,” said Do Van Trung, head of the event’s organising board.

Trung added that Yadanarbon would continue competing in the last Group A match with Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN tomorrow, but they requested to review the referee’s judging of the match.

Referee Dung said he worked objectively according to the rules.

In other matches played yesterday, Becamex Binh Duong tied with Khanh Hoa 1-1.

Today, the Japanese student squad will meet Bangu Atletico Clube of Brazil and Dong Tam Long An will face Quang Ninh Coal in Group B matches.

The event, which has attracted the participation of eight teams, will end in the southern province of Binh Duong’s Go Dau Stadium on November 15.

The winner will walk away with VND500 million (US$22,700).

Real lose as Barca move to the top of La Liga

Sluggish Real Madrid suffered a surprise 3-2 defeat at Sevilla, allowing a Neymar-inspired Barcelona, 3-0 victors over Villarreal, to move three points clear at the top of La Liga on Sunday.

pdHNAjmk

A delightful flick and volley from Neymar allowed him to complete a double in Barcelona’s emphatic victory before Sevilla battled back from behind to hand Rafael Benitez his first league defeat as Real Madrid manager.

Real had gone ahead through a spectacular overhead kick from Sergio Ramos after 22 minutes but Ciro Immobile fired home minutes before halftime and a well-worked move was finished off by Ever Banega to put Sevilla ahead after 61 minutes.

Benitez’s side raised their game but Fernando Llorente scored again with a header from a counter-attack after 75 minutes and substitute James Rodriguez’s injury time goal was too little too late for Real, who suffered defeat at Sevilla just as Barcelona had last month.
“It is a difficult stadium to play in and I think we were a bit static against a strong side. You win leagues by going step by step and these are important points we have dropped,” Ramos told reporters.

The in-form Brazilian Neymar, who now leads the La Liga scoring charts with 11 goals, opened the scoring for Barcelona with a clinical finish, having been set up by a defence-splitting pass from Sergio Busquets after 60 minutes.

Neymar and Luis Suarez have come to the fore in the absence of injured talisman Lionel Messi and Suarez converted a penalty after 70 minutes following a foul by Jaume Costa on Munir El Haddadi.

The two combined again, with Suarez finding Neymar who lifted the ball round Costa and knocked it home after 85 minutes.

The pair now have 16 goals between them from the last six games.

“We played well and created a lot of chances. We need to continue this way. I am happy with the way I am playing but I think I can still do better,” Neymar told reporters.

An injury time header from Antoine Griezmann allowed third-placed Atletico Madrid to finally break down a defensive Sporting Gijon for a 1-0 victory.

Barca lead the table with 27 points from 11 games, three more than Real while Atletico are on 23 points.

Gareth Bale was fit to return to the Real attack after missing the previous four games while Rodriguez started on the bench, having returned to the squad after almost two months out through injury.

Defender Nacho Fernandez, who scored Real’s only goal in their Champions League victory over Paris Saint Germain last Tuesday, hit the post with a swerving volley after 10 minutes.

Ramos showed his dexterity with an expertly taken overhead kick to give Real the lead but his problems with a shoulder injury were aggravated and he later had to go off.

Real missed his leadership at the back and poor defending allowed Immobile to score from a tight angle at a corner.

Sevilla carried the greater threat in the second half and Banega slid the ball home after good work from Yevhen Konoplyanka while Llorente headed home a Mariano Ferreira cross having been left unmarked in the area.

The home side were controlling the final stages of the game but Rodriguez still hit the back of the net with a fine 25 metre drive.
