Cristiano Ronaldo and his team-mates will have to deal with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s side, while les Bleus take on the Euro 2012 co-hosts.

Either Cristiano Ronaldo or Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be involved in next year’s World Cup after the play-off draw pitted Portugal against Sweden.

The sides have met 15 times up to date, with the Scandinavians winning six, drawing six and losing three times.

Elsewhere, France will meet Euro 2012 co-hosts Ukraine as they fight for one place at next summer’s tournament.

Didier Deschamps’ men have taken on the Ukrainians on seven occasions up till date, with les Bleus emerging victorious four times and drawing the remaining three encounters.

However, Deschamps urged caution ahead of their clash with the Eastern Europeans.

“Portugal and Croatia are nations with experience, but it will not be easy against a team who are undefeated in their last seven matches and concede very few goals,” he said.

“Having the second leg at home is a good thing for us. These four days will decide our future. We need a lot of confidence but also a lot of respect for the Ukrainian team.”

Finally, Euro 2004 winners Greece take on Romania, while surprise package Iceland face Croatia.

The first legs will be played on November 15, with the returns scheduled to take place four days later on the 19th.

Evra reveals he’s considering quitting Manchester United next summer for ‘personal’ reasons

Patrice Evra has suggested that he will leave Manchester United in the summer.

The French left-back was asked whether he was concerned that his contract was going to expire in June and his response suggested he wants to depart Old Trafford for pastures new.
Evra was sad that Sir Alex Ferguson retired and was also not impressed by the club’s pursuit of Leighton Baines and Fabio Coentrao.

He said to Telefoot: ‘No, not at all [concerned]. It is a personal thing. It is not that Manchester United do not want me to sign a new contract. This whole thing is personal. Manchester United would like me to finish my career there, but this is something personal.’
United chief Ed Woodward has admitted to a fans forum that Baines was the club’s primary target this summer but Everton’s asking price was too high.
Evra has been linked with a move to his former side Monaco and French moneybags Paris Saint-Germain for several months.

Evra is also in hot water because of comments from the same interview in which he attacked a host of pundits.
He has been asked by the French Football Federation to explain his outburst in which he labelled 1998 World Cup winner Bixente Lizarazu and three other pundits ‘tramps’ on French TV.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been charged by the Football Association for improper conduct during the 4-1 win over Cardiff City on Saturday.

The Portuguese coach was sent to the stands after berating referee Anthony Taylor for warning Branislav Ivanovic over time-wasting.

Mourinho was forced to watch the remaining 20 minutes from the East Stand amongst Chelsea fans but may now face a touchline ban following the FA’s statement.

It read: “Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been charged with improper conduct in relation to his behaviour during his side’s game against Cardiff City on Saturday 19 October 2013.

“Mourinho has until 24 October at 6pm to respond to the charge.”

Assistant manager Steve Holland fielded questions in the post-match press conference and attempted to explain Mourinho’s actions.

Speaking to reporters Holland said: “Jose is very frustrated and it stems from the time-wasting from the opposition from basically the first two or three minutes of the game. We mentioned it to the fourth official in a professional way on countless occasions.

“The referee didn’t appear to do anything about it but when we had a throw-in, Ivanovic had the ball in his hands for two seconds, and the referee was about getting the ball back into play and pointing at his watch.

“So it was a case of huge frustration with that. And to be sent off for that was very harsh.”

He’s out of this world… but what is Ronaldo doing training by himself under the stars?

Cristiano Ronaldo is often hailed to being on another planet. And now the Real Madrid man is showing exactly why he is called a super-star with his new boots.
Ronaldo, 28, posted a picture on Twitter flashing off his latest studs, inspired by a galactic(o) theme.
The Nike Mercurial galaxy will be the Portugal international’s signature boots and he appeared to be suitably impressed with them.

Written in the stars: Ronaldo puts his new boots to the test

But will his fans? He wrote: ‘My new #Mercurial boots from @NikeFootball – what do you think?’
Ronaldo then shared a short video on Instagram with his fans, opening the box containing the footwear before looking to camera and saying: ‘Nice’.
According to Nike, the Mercurial IX boot features an all-over digital print of the Star Vela Supernova and includes a seven star path print, paying homage to Cristiano’s No 7 shirt number.
The supernova print is juxtaposed with a chrome swoosh flecked with silver fleck and a Blue Glow outline.

Ronaldo added: ‘It’s cool when we create something that represents my personality and style of play. It’s a very special.’
Boot designer Denis Dekovic has the idea came about when a commentator suggested Ronaldo’s play had come ‘out of this world’.
‘We were watching a game, and after Cristiano scored yet another amazing free-kick the commentator posed the question “Is Ronaldo from this planet?!”

‘When we got back to the design studio we got to thinking about Ronaldo’s style and how similar it was to the definition of a supernova – a celestial body that radiates energy – and that was it, we had our inspiration.’
The former Manchester United star will parade them for the first time this Saturday in the El Clasico clash against Barcelona, where he’ll be looking to show he’s the best player in the universe against rival Lionel Messi.
His old boots have certainly stood him well and he was on target yet again at the weekend in Madrid’s 2-0 La Liga win over Malaga after Gareth Bale won his new team-mate a penalty.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, will find out today who Portugal will play in a World Cup play-off as they make one final bod to reach next summer’s tournament in Brazil. They could meet France, who are unseeded in the draw along with Sweden, Romania and Iceland.
But one thing’s for certain with his new boots, he’ll be guaranteed to find space as well as goals…

Allegri faces Kaka dilemma

The Brazilian made an emotional return as a substitute at San Siro on Saturday but may have to settle for a place on the bench again in Europe.

330576_heroa

Massimiliano Allegri is unsure whether Kaka will be fit enough to start Milan’s Champions League clash with Barcelona on Tuesday.

The Brazilian midfielder played the final 13 minutes of Milan’s 1-0 Serie A win over Udinese on Saturday as he continues his recovery from a thigh injury.

Since his return to San Siro from Real Madrid on transfer deadline day, Kaka has only made two appearances for the club, but Allegri is hopeful that he will feature in some capacity against Barca.

“I don’t know if Kaka will be able to play from the beginning in the match against Barcelona,” he said. “He made a good performance (against Udinese).

“Kaka is an extraordinary player. He has to fully recover since he had to stop for 40 days due to a muscle injury. He only played 20 minutes in a midweek match.

“When he entered the pitch (against Udinese) he increased the technical value of the team and represented a great psychological support because he entered when the team could have had more difficulties.”

With Lionel Messi, Javier Mascherano and Carles Puyol all returning to full fitness last week, Barcelona will be at full strength for their trip to Milan and Allegri knows his side will need to work hard to repeat last season’s 2-0 win over the Liga champions.

“Tuesday’s match is worth three points and we should try to gain them because they would almost grant us to qualify,” he added. “It surely won’t be easy. It will be very difficult.

“They (Barcelona) will be motivated to gain three points. I believe they may have (Lionel) Messi, (Gerard) Pique and (Javier) Mascherano, therefore the whole squad will be available.

“We have to battle and to be very careful and concentrated. It will surely be a beautiful match and we hope we’ll be able to achieve a positive result.”

Fiorentina 4-2 Juventus: Rossi nets hat-trick to guide hosts to victory

The former Villarreal striker put in a man of the match performance to help the Viola to an impressive comeback win.

330541hp2

Fiorentina ended their 15-year wait for a Serie A home win against Juventus on Sunday as a Giuseppe Rossi hat-trick saw them triumph 4-2.

Antonio Conte’s side took a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to Carlos Tevez and Paul Pogba but an incredible 15-minute spell saw Fiorentina turn the match on its head as Rossi took centre-stage to inspire the hosts’ comeback.

The Italian pulled one back from the penalty spot before equalising with a powerful finish. Joaquin gave Fiorentina the lead in the final 15 minutes and Rossi completed his hat-trick late on after Juan Cuadrado’s clever pass.

Vincenzo Montella’s side came into the fixture having only picked up two points from their last three league matches, but he felt only one change was necessary as Facundo Roncaglia replaced Nenad Tomovic, while Fernando Llorente and Pogba replaced Fabio Quagliarella and Arturo Vidal for Juventus, the latter dropped after returning late from international duty.

Tevez and Llorente went close in a quiet opening half hour, the former heading wide while the Spaniard was denied by a Gonzalo Rodriguez intervention.

The Argentine defender would be at fault just a few minutes later, however. Tevez controlled and turned just inside the area, but was needlessly tripped by Rodriguez, allowing the former Manchester City man the chance from 12 yards, which he confidently buried.

The visitors added a quick-fire second in the 40th minute. Cuadrado burst back into the area to clear the ball, but his attempt while sliding flew up into the air rather than away and gifted Pogba an easy finish from close range.

Juventus went close to opening up a three-goal lead soon after the break as Claudio Marchisio poked the ball past Roncaglia and charged into the area, but Neto blocked the midfielder’s chipped effort.

The Brazilian goalkeeper was becoming increasingly busy and was forced into two more saves before the hour mark to deny Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Pirlo.

The second half had been dominated by the visitors, but after Kwadwo Asamoah bundled Matias Fernandez to the ground inside the area, Rossi stroked home the resulting penalty with 24 minutes left.

Italy striker Rossi pulled Fiorentina level in the 76th minute as he held off his marker and then fired across Gianluigi Buffon, into the bottom far corner, as Juve began to rue their wasted chances.

Two minutes later, Montella’s side completed the turnaround and took the lead. Second-half substitute Joaquin found space in the right side of the area and calmly guided the ball past Buffon to seal a memorable comeback.

What looked like being another defeat to the Turin giants turned into an emphatic victory as Rossi completed his hat-trick with nine minutes to go as he latched on to Cuadrado’s pass and fired low past the helpless Buffon, wrapping up the three points.

Defeat leaves Juventus five points off Roma at the top of Serie A as they languish in third.

Kahn talks up Germany World Cup chances

Former Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn says there is a “high probability” the national team will win next year’s World Cup.

Kazakhstan v Germany - FIFA 2014 World Cup Qualifier

Kahn was part of the side which were beaten in the final of the 2002 World Cup, since when they have reached the semi-finals twice, and the 44-year-old believes they are now ripe for the title.
“Successes like in the Champions League give the players the decisive kick,” he said. “That gives them the conviction that, by getting the better of the best in Europe, then they can also become World Champions.”
Last season’s Champions League final between Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich included many members of Joachim Low’s current Germany squad, including one of Kahn’s successors in the Germany goal, Manuel Neuer.
Speaking about a topic he knows a great deal about, he also said that Neuer’s opposite number on that day in Wembley, Roman Weidenfeller, would also be worthy of a call, ahead of Hamburg’s Rene Adler.
“Adler is a good goalkeeper, but he’s not playing in [European competition] for Hamburg,” Kahn added in the Bild newspaper.
“Weidenfeller, on the other hand, is playing every Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday and he’d more than deserve a call.
“He also has a great character. He’s a total professional and would be anything but a spoilsport.”
