Chelsea 1-2 Basel: Salah and Streller stun Stamford Bridge

Jose Mourinho loses his second match on the trot as the Swiss side grew in the second half to beat the Premier League outfit after Oscar broke the deadline just before half-time.

318745hp2

Six years to the day after a 1-1 draw with Rosenborg that represented the final game of Mourinho’s first spell in charge at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea were stunned by second-half goals from Mohamed Salah and Marco Streller.

Oscar fired the hosts ahead in the 45th minute in the Group E clash with his sixth goal in seven Champions League outings and the Brazilian also hit the bar prior to Salah’s classy left-footed leveller.

That goal prompted Chelsea to throw men forward, yet it was Basel – always dangerous on the break – who struck again when Streller beat Petr Cech with a near-post header from a corner.

Willian was handed his Chelsea debut and Marco van Ginkel a first start as Mourinho made five changes from the side beaten 1-0 by Everton at the weekend.

Basel recalled a host of players after fielding a weakened side for their Schweizer Pokal victory against Munsingen.

Mourinho’s men unsurprisingly started the game on the front foot, albeit without creating any clear-cut opportunities.

There was a scare for Basel goalkeeper Yann Sommer in the 15th minute when he fumbled a corner from the left, but a free-kick was swiftly awarded in his favour.

The pacey Salah – a scorer at Stamford Bridge in last season’s Europa League semi-final between the two sides – represented the main threat when Basel launched occasional attacks.

After Eden Hazard had spurned a rare clear sighting of goal for Chelsea following good work from Samuel Eto’o, Salah also proved wasteful when cutting in from the right and curling a shot over the bar.

Despite dominating possession and the corner count, the hosts remained frustrated as half-time approached.

However, Chelsea were lifted on the stroke of the interval as Oscar popped up with a timely goal.

David Luiz set the attack in motion by stepping into midfield and Oscar latched on to a delicate throughball from Frank Lampard to find the bottom-left corner with a first-time shot on the turn.

Streller was close to connecting with a left-wing cross early in the second half before Oscar struck the bar at the other end with a tremendous effort from just outside the area.

Hazard failed to hit the target once again either side of Branislav Ivanovic twice threatening from set-pieces.

Chelsea were then punished for not extending their lead when a cross from the left broke via Streller to Salah, who emulated Oscar by only requiring one touch to find the net.

Although Chelsea poured forward in search of a late winner, it was Basel who finished the stronger and their encouraging play gained reward as Streller shocked the home crowd.

Barcelona 4-0 Ajax: Messi hat-trick seals convincing win

The Argentine matched Cristiano Ronaldo’s efforts for Real Madrid on Tuesday by firing the Blaugrana to victory with three goals.

318739hp2

Lionel Messi once more took centre stage as his hat-trick helped Barcelona to a 4-0 victory over Ajax in the Champions League.

The Argentinian scored in both halves of the Group H fixture at Camp Nou to give the Blaugrana victory in their opening European encounter.

It marked an emotional Champions League debut for coach Gerardo Martino, with the win coming just a few days after the death of his father.

After a bright opening, Messi broke the deadlock with fierce free-kick in the 22nd minute.

His second came 10 minutes after half-time with a cool finish from inside the area, before Gerard Pique put gloss on the scoreline with a header from Neymar’s cross and Messi completed his treble when he feigned his shot before guiding an effort into the corner.

Kolbeinn Sigthorsson could have grabbed a consolation, but he saw his 77th-minute penalty saved by Victor Valdes.

Martino included Messi and Neymar in Barcelona’s starting XI, with the latter making his Champions League debut.

The Dutch side had Siem de Jong available, following his recovery from a collapsed lung.

Barcelona dominated possession in the opening exchanges and they took the lead when Messi once again displayed his brilliance with a stunning free kick, 22 minutes in.

After being felled by Lerin Duarte on the right, he picked himself up to hit a thunderous strike, with the ball going in off the the post as Kenneth Vermeer failed to keep it out at full stretch.

Ajax nearly stole an equaliser on the half-hour mark when Bojan curled a cross deep towards the far post and a diving header from Ricardo van Rhijn forced a smart reaction save from Valdes.

The visitors could have had a penalty when Sigthorsson went to ground under a challenge from Pique. The loose ball was met by Duarte, but he placed his first-time effort straight at Valdes.

After surviving those scares, Messi effectively ended the game as a contest in the 55th minute.

He controlled a Sergio Busquets pass on the right side of the box before feinting inside Stefano Denswil and firing his effort past Vermeer.

Barcelona continued to press and Neymar and Dani Alves both had efforts blocked.

And the pressure told in the 69th minute when Neymar delivered an in-swinging cross from the left that was met by the head of Pique to make it 3-0.

Messi then completed his hat-trick with 15 minutes remaining. His shimmy confused the whole defence, including Vermeer, before he slotted into the far corner.

Ajax could have had a consolation when Javier Mascherano fouled substitute Thulani Serero in the area but Sigthorsson saw his penalty beaten away by Valdes.

Boss Doan Nguyen Duc is afraid of his men will be depraved by compliments

Supporters and communication media means are very pleased with the u-19 Viet Nam’s performance at ASEAN Football championships  which own many pillars from Hoang Anh Gia Lai JMG Arsenal. However, boss Doan Nguyen Duc of Hoang Anh Gia Lai worries that his stars would be depraved when receiving many compliments.

Đoàn Nguyên Đức dù rất vui nhưng cũng lo cho các em dễ hư vì truyền thông

In spite of being happy, Mr Doan Nguyen Duc also worries of mass media

Though U-19 Viet Nam fell into a tough group, Viet Nam have gradually passed strong opponents as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar to win the ticket to the semi finals. U19 Viet Nam played stately with sharp attack and accurate pass. Football fans showed their excitement with this young generation of players in most of website, moreover, many of them wish U19 to play at SEA Games in the end of this year.

Nevertheless, boss Duc is always vigilant: ” It’s very happy when witness their victories however, I would like to ask media means not to praise up them much, It would be better to let them play naturally.” Before that, Being very pleased with young talents, boss Duc want to give them a “hot” reward but he had rethought and let his players in comfortableness, and all players should try their best then they would receive deserved reward.

It’s understandable that mr Duc seems to be quite sensitive with this because there was a star who received many support from mr Duc however, he attains not much achievement, then that player left him. At that time boss Duc was so angry with him that he show his disappointment before media.

This is not a strange event in football of Viet Nam, especially Dong Thap club hide talents in order that there is no young players being called to the national team. The reason is that, the transformation from a poor team to a professional team always causes players losing equilibrium then being spoiled. For example they think they are on top and harass to  change club.

According to specialists of Viet Nam football, with a football environment as Viet Nam it’s normal when these situations happens. The young players mean they don’t have many experiment in life and easy to be fall. Therefore, many supporters show their agreement with HA GL JMG Arsenal club which is isolated with outside football environment and emphasizing in teaching knowledge and culture.

Viet Nam football had many talent generations before however most of them could not control themselves from seducement, finally they were eliminated. It’s obvious that, U-19 Viet Nam has gained success but we should keep trying harder.

Galatasaray sunk by Real Madrid landslide

Real Madrid ran riot in the second half against Galatasaray to make a major statement about their ambitions in the Champions League and finish with a 6-1 win.

Galatasaray AS v Real Madrid CF - UEFA Champions League

Although Galatasaray started strongly, they crumbled after Isco made the breakthrough late in the first half as Cristiano Ronaldo, with a hat-trick, and Karim Benzema feasted on some poor defending.
Gareth Bale started the match on the bench, but came on midway through the second half and created one of Ronaldo’s goals.
There was a late consolation for the hosts from Umut Bulut, but it was not enough to bring even a flicker of emotion to the face of disconsolate coach Fatih Terem, who started the night full of hope but ended it with his team in tatters.
Galatasaray started in lively fashion, with Burak Yilmaz testing Iker Casillas in only the second minute, the Madrid captain at full stretch to force his powerful effort away for a corner.
Casillas was starting ahead of Diego Lopez after being told by coach Carlo Ancelotti that he would play in Europe while deputising in La Liga, but his night soon came to a premature end when he took an elbow to the ribs in the 13th minute.
He initially tried to play on with heavy bandaging, but after one attempted clearance he signalled to come off.
Lopez was soon busy too, holding Felipe Melo’s close-range header from Yilmaz’s free-kick.
Moments later, Madrid appealed for a penalty. Benzema did well to keep the ball in on the touchline before pulling it back to Ronaldo, who tumbled over the outstretched leg of Dany Nounkeu only to see his appeals ignored by Mark Clattenburg.
As play continued, Angel Di Maria curled an effort over the bar.
Galatasaray were still looking threatening, with Wesley Sneijder close to picking out Yilmaz in front of goal after springing the offside trap, before Felipe Melo’s superb header was kept out by an equally good save from Lopez.
But it was Madrid who struck in the 33rd minute when Isco’s outstanding first touch to Di Maria’s long ball allowed him to split the defence and score off the inside of the left-hand post.
Things got worse for Galatasaray when Didier Drogba collapsed under a rough challenge from Pepe just as an already lengthy spell of added time was beginning.
In all, six additional minutes were played, highlighted by a Ronaldo shot parried by Fernando Muslera
Drogba failed to reappear for the second half and, without him, Galatasaray struggled to contain Madrid.
Ronaldo’s fierce early shot beat Muslera, who needed Nounkeu to hook it off the line, but moments later a defensive mix-up allowed Benzema to run free and finish with ease.
Yilmaz then missed a free header and a chance to put the hosts back in the contest, and Madrid punished him with two quick goals from Ronaldo to end the contest.
Neither was pretty. The first came when Galatasaray failed to deal with Di Maria’s cross and Ronaldo was able to rifle home from Isco’s knock-back, the second when the Portugal forward lashed home the rebound from a free-kick taken by record signing Bale, on as a substitute moments earlier.
Bale then tested Muslera with a shot of his own which was pushed clear, but it was Benzema who added the fifth, poking into an empty net after Ronaldo drew the goalkeeper from his line before flicking the ball across.
For the Galatasary fans who stuck it out, there was a little something to cheer when the slightest of touches from Bulut diverted Nordin Amrabat’s cross into the goal, but Ronaldo had the final word as he completed his hat-trick with a couple of stepovers and a vicious finish as added time began.

Rooney hits landmark in Leverkusen win

Wayne Rooney joined Manchester United’s 200 club, scoring twice as the Red Devils opened their Champions League campaign with a 4-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

Manchester United v Bayer Leverkusen - UEFA Champions League

Rooney put United ahead midway through the first half with a first-time effort from Patrice Evra’s cross, although Bayer Leverkusen argued with some justification that an offside Antonio Valencia had impeded keeper Bernd Leno.
Still, it did not look like being a particularly memorable night for the England forward when an inexplicable failure to either tap into an empty net or provide an opportunity for Robin van Persie to do so after he had skipped round Leno was followed within a minute by Simon Rolfes’ equaliser.
However, Van Persie soon restored United’s advantage before Rooney entered the history books as he seized on the loose ball after Emir Spahic had got his head to David de Gea’s long punt downfield and finished with ease.
It was a landmark effort that meant Rooney emulated Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and Jack Rowley in reach 200 United goals.
More importantly in the short-term, it launched David Moyes’ Champions League career in the perfect style as Rooney provided a late fourth for Antonio Valencia.
Although Moyes has said on numerous occasions since replacing Sir Alex Ferguson he had managed in the Champions League, deep down he must have known this was different to a final qualifier against Villarreal for Everton.
And the Scot could have been pretty pleased with his side’s first half efforts.
New boy Marouane Fellaini brought the unfussy approach his manager said he would, content to let more flamboyant team-mates work their magic further up field.
One of that number was Shinji Kagawa, whose continued omissions, whilst explained away perfectly plausibly by Moyes, were starting to attract attention.
The Japan star was heavily involved in most of United’s attacks, including their opening goal.
Kagawa was overshadowed by Rooney though.
There was never any real doubt the forward would have put all the summer conjecture about his future to one side once it became obvious he would be remaining at Old Trafford.
Still, it is pleasing to see how hard he is working, something England coach Roy Hodgson might be very thankful for next month when he tries to secure a World Cup berth.
Rooney had an early shot blocked by Spahic, with Van Persie also firing wide in a solid if unspectacular start.
Chris Smalling, making his first appearance of the campaign, looped an effort over off his back before United opened their account.
Aesthetically, it was wonderful.
A Ronaldo-esque dance from Van Persie by the touchline bamboozled the Leverkusen defence, then Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Kagawa were all involved in sending Patrice Evra darting towards the by-line.
His cross was met by Rooney, whose shot bounced over Leno.
What Slovenian referee Damir Skomina – and the rest of his officials – had missed was Valencia virtually falling into Leno as Rooney’s shot came towards them.
If Valencia was not interfering with play, it is hard to see how anyone ever could be.
Van Persie’s decision to engage in a face-to-face row with Skomina was not the wisest choice and brought him a booking.
Still, with Kagawa coming agonisingly close to a second just before the interval, United did not have a lot to concern them.
That confidence was badly shaken not long after the restart.
As he glided round Leno, Rooney looked certain to tap home.
Instead, he rolled his effort beyond the far post, too far in front of Van Persie to enable the touch that would also have doubled United’s lead.
Both Moyes and, in the directors’ box, Ferguson, struggled to comprehend how United were not two up.
To make matters worse, the visitors immediately went down to the other end and equalised as Leverkusen skipper Rofles met Heung-min Son’s lay-off perfectly and saw his curling effort take the slightest deflection off Carrick before finding the corner.
It took a moment of genius from Van Persie to restore United’s advantage, hooking Valencia’s cross in with a semi overhead kick that left Leno so startled he could not react quickly enough.
Once they were back in front, United were in no mood to surrender the initiative again.
Rooney’s landmark goal came 20 minutes from time before he set up Valencia for his first European goal in nearly two years.
Omer Toprak pulled one back after a goalmouth scramble caused by De Gea’s failure to punch clear before Van Persie failed to convert from barely a yard.
Still, for Rooney – who left to a standing ovation – and Moyes, it was a very pleasing evening indeed.

Sharpshooting Man City secure Plzen win

Manchester City struck three times in the space of 10 minutes to get their Champions League campaign off to a 3-0 win against Viktoria Plzen.

FC Viktoria Plzen v Manchester City - UEFA Champions League

City were frustrated by the Czech champions in the first half at the compact Doosan Arena but burst into life after the break with goals from Edin Dzeko, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero.
The lively Aguero had also hit the post in the first half while Matus Kozacik also made good early saves from Dzeko and Jesus Navas in the Group D encounter.
The result was the perfect start in the competition for City’s new manager Manuel Pellegrini and lifted spirits after a mixed start to the campaign ahead of Sunday’s derby against Manchester United.
Pellegrini’s previous record in the Champions League, having taken Villarreal to the semi-finals and Malaga to the last eight, was one of City’s prime reasons for appointing him in the summer.
A day after his 60th birthday, he got what he hopes will be another prolonged run up and running with an ultimately convincing win.
Reigning champions Bayern Munich will doubtless provide a sterner test in their next fixture but City’s challenge is already looking better than last season’s, when they failed to win a match.
City also looked stronger for the return of captain Vincent Kompany, who had missed the previous three games with a groin injury.
It took City time to make their mark against a Plzen side unbeaten in 14 games this season but once the deadlock was broken the result was never in doubt.
City started brightly with Navas forcing Kozacik to tip over a powerful shot from the edge of the area.
It was the first of a number of good saves from Kozacik but he was caught out at the resulting corner as Toure headed over.
Dzeko headed another chance over before Jan Koravik missed Plzen’s first serious chance.
City had not got into their stride when Aleksandar Kolarov was needlessly booked for handball and Joe Hart had an uneasy moment when he ineffectively punched a free-kick.
Dzeko should have given City the lead after 22 minutes when Kolarov burst down the left and picked him out in the six-yard box but Kozacik saved the Bosnian’s header at point-blank range.
Aguero went even closer with a firm low drive which struck the foot of the upright and Kolarov hit the rebound straight at Kozacik.
Navas created another opportunity but his shot took a deflection and the wrong-footed Aguero stumbled and punched the ball.
At the other end Tomas Horava attempted a spectacular volley from a Frantisek Rajtoral cross but shot well wide.
City were far from convincing in the first half but continued to create opportunities and Aguero stabbed against the post again, although the whistle had gone for a foul on Kozacik.
Much to Dzeko’s frustration, Aguero shot at Kozacik just before the interval.
But the Argentinian was anything but selfish as he set up City’s opener three minutes into the second half, muscling his way past Lukas Hejda and racing clear to square for Dzeko.
The striker, under pressure for his place from Alvaro Negredo, made no mistake with a firm low finish from the edge of the area.
Pablo Zabaleta blocked a shot from Kovarik as Plzen tried to respond but City’s goal gave them the impetus they needed and two more followed in quick succession.
Toure doubled the advantage with a sublime effort in the 53rd minute, taking a touch outside the area and then curling a shot into the top corner.
It was his third great finish from distance this season after free-kicks against Newcastle and Hull.
Plzen’s resolve was broken and they conceded again from long range as Aguero took a pass from Navas and turned just inside the area to drive into the bottom corner.
Navas threatened similar from an Aguero pass soon after but his effort was blocked in a crowded penalty area.
City were then content to play out the rest of the game but Aguero might have had a second when he broke through after 86 minutes but Kozacik saved.
Negredo came off the bench to create another chance for Aguero in the last minute but he shot over.

Holders Bayern put three past CSKA

Bayern Munich began the defence of their Champions League title against CSKA Moscow with a 3-0 victory at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night.

Borussia Dortmund v FC Bayern Muenchen - UEFA Champions League Final

David Alaba, Mario Mandzukic and Arjen Robben were on target for Bayern, who have now won their last 10 opening Champions League fixtures.
Bayern got off the mark near enough straight away in this Group D fixture as Alaba handed them the lead in the third minute.
The 21-year-old midfielder was brought down by Pontus Wernbloom 25 yards out and punished him with a vicious free-kick that beat goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev.
Alaba could have doubled the lead for Pep Guadiola’s side minutes later with his cross heading into dangerous territory before Vasili Berezutsky cleared the ball to safety for the visitors.
Mandzukic was next to have a go at the CSKA goal and he took on Akinfeev with a close-range shot, but the goalkeeper managed to get his feet to the ball to deny a second goal.
The visitors took a while to settle in before Ahmed Musa came close to netting an equaliser, his long-range effort sailing past the right-hand goalpost.
Down at the other end, Alaba almost turned provider as he set up Mandzukic with a cross into the penalty box, but the Croatia international’s header went just over.
Bayern were dominating and Marcio Rafinha could have added a second as he fired inches wide from the edge of the area.
Franck Ribery then forced a block from Kirill Nababkin before Arjen Robben’s close-range effort was just off target.
Leonid Slutsky’s visitors were fighting to get into the match and Santos Vitinho came close to dragging the score back level but his drilled strike from 20 yards out was caught by Manuel Neuer.
Robben had another attempt at goal denied before he set up Mandzukic with a cross into the box, but the 27-year-old striker’s header hit the post.
But Bayern’s dominance paid off as they doubled the lead minutes before the break, again the result of a free-kick.
Rafinha was brought down by Vitinho and Robben’s cross picked out Mandzukicto head home.
Slutsky made a tactical move at the start of the second half, bringing on midfielder Zoran Tosic for striker Vitinho as the away side attempted to wrestle their way back in.
Robben was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet minutes later as Akinfeev kept out his goalbound effort, then down at the other end Philip Lahm blocked Steven Zuber’s shot as CSKA sought a way back.
Robben eventually made it three after a dominant second-half spell from the German side.
The Holland international collected Alaba’s pass on the right before drilling the ball into the bottom right of the CSKA goal to show the rest of Europe they are serious about defending their title.
Ribery set up Mandzukic as Bayern went looking for a fourth but Akinfeev caught his close-range header.
And substitute Xherdan Shaqiri may have scored a fourth as he had a shot on goal after picking up Thomas Muller’s free-kick, but his weak effort was comfortably collected by Akinfeev.
At the other end, Georgi Milanov’s strike sailed over the bar to deny the away side a consolation.

Striker Van Toan’s hat-trick earned Vietnam’s entering ASEAN Football Championships semi-final

Striker Van Toan’s hat-trick not only earned Vietnam a win over Myanmar on September 16 and wining 12 points after 4 rounds, but also U-19 Viet Nam officially takes a place in the semi-final of the ASEAN U19 Football Championships after this 3-1 win.

Việt Nam- Indonesia

Viet Nam – Indonesia

After 3 consecutive wins over strong opponents such as U19 Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. In two remained rounds of group B, U19 Viet Nam just need only one more point against two weaker opponents U19 Myanmar and Brunei to win a ticket to the semi-final. However, facing U19 Myanmar, Coach Graechen Guillaume and his men had played so well that they had won 3-1 over opponents to win a further expected ticket to the semi final.

Overwhelming U19 Myanmar from the beginning, therefore in the first half U19 Viet Nam had scored two goals by Van Toan. With this advantages, Coach Guillaume and players played more slowly and carefully, the mid-field was left for U19 Myanmar. This is also a chance for Sawsi to shorten the gap 1-2 in 62th minute.

Having met many difficulties in the remained minutes of game, U19 Myanmar played closely and aggressive, therefore, Viet Nam’s footballers Van Trương have to leave because of injury. The HAGL’s men had taken a hat trick which set Viet Nam 3-1 win over Myanmar.

Drogba: Galatasaray can upset Real Madrid

The Cote d’Ivoire star aims to get off to a winning start against the Liga giant, although he realizes the Istanbul club faces a tough task.

316786_heroa

Didier Drogba is hopeful that Galatasaray can upset Real Madrid in Tuesday’s Champions League encounter in Istanbul.

The Turkish champion recorded a 3-2 home win over Madrid in the quarterfinals of last year’s edition of European club football’s elite competition and even though the team was eventually beaten 5-2 on aggregate, Drogba remains optimistic about his side’s chances.

“Madrid are a great club with some great players. Football is a game of 11 against 11 on the pitch, though, so why would we not be able to spring a surprise,” he was quoted as saying by AS. “We can make our fans go crazy with the way we play. I remember last year when the Madrid players were in shock. They all told me that our fans are crazy and I think the Galatasaray supporters are the best.

“I hope that they will cheer us on against Madrid and we want to repay them with a good result. It would only be normal if we finished third or fourth in our group, but anything can happen in football. I believe in this team.”

Galatasaray will also have to deal with Juventus and Copenhagen in Group B.
