Barca in for £17m Torres

BARCELONA are ready to end Fernando Torres’ Chelsea nightmare.

21_29_1325142726_53_291211_the-thao_Torres

The Spanish champs are preparing an audacious £17million bid for the misfit striker — £33m LESS than the British record transfer fee Chelsea paid Liverpool for him two years ago.

New boss Jose Mourinho wants face-to-face talks with Torres before making any decisions about the club’s highest-paid player.

But with the Blues chasing £54m Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, Torres knows his days are numbered.

Now it seems a matter of how much of a hit Mourinho’s Chelsea are prepared to take on Torres, who has three years of his £9m-a-year contract to run.

Torres, 29, is on international duty with Spain and not due back at Stamford Bridge for another month.

He has just completed his most productive season yet in Chelsea colours with 22 goals, but only eight of those were scored in the Premier League.

Barcelona, who are also preparing a £35m offer for Blues centre-half David Luiz, see Torres as a back-up striker at the Nou Camp and believe a return to Spain can revitalise his flagging career.

They want him to replace international team-mate David Villa, who is set to leave the Nou Camp.

And they are ready to match the £175,000-a- week wages that Torres trousers at the Bridge.

Messi’s polished image faces first scandal

The sporting world was shocked on Wednesday by the news that four-time World Player of the Year Lionel Messi is being pursued by the Spanish tax authorities for an alleged fraud worth over four million euros ($5 million).

Lionel-Messi-2013-1371045796_500x0 (1)
Messi is rightfully the world’s most lauded and admired footballer as, on the pitch, he has achieved feats barely plausible in the modern game, such as his 91-goal haul in the calendar year of 2012 that overhauled German Gerd Mueller’s 40-year-old European record.
However, in contrast to many of his contemporaries, it is his camera-shy, humble attitude away from the pitch that has allowed many to warm to him.
And that image is precisely why Wednesday’s news came as such a surprise.
Messi, who is accused along with his father Jorge Horacio, strongly denied the allegations via his Facebook page, saying that he had not even been informed by the tax authorities of the complaint.
“We have just known through the media about the claim filed by the Spanish tax authorities. We are surprised about those news, because we have never committed any infringement,” he said.
Ironically, given his squeaky clean image, it appears to be how he has handled money earned from image rights that the authorities are challenging.
They claim that the player and his father used tax havens in Belize and Uruguay to avoid paying tax on image rights from a number of the player’s huge endorsement deals.
The pair are accused of defrauding the state of taxes related to that income in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, the year the Argentine won the first of his four Ballons d’Or.
Since that time Messi’s exceptional performances on the field have seen his value as a marketable commodity soar.
He scored in both the Champions League finals of 2009 and 2011 as Barca overcame Manchester United to claim their third and fourth European crowns respectively.
Meanwhile, his individual goalscoring feats have become legendary. His 91 goals in 2012 helped him smash Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo’s previous record of 40 goals in a La Liga season, as Messi registered 50 in the league and equalled the record number of goals in a single Champions League campaign with 14.
Those feats allied to the winning of his fourth Ballon d’Or in January saw him move up one place in this year’s Forbes list of highest-paid athletes to 10th with an annual income of $21 million from endorsements alone.
Off the field, things appeared to be going very smoothly for Messi too as his long-term girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo gave birth to their first child, Thiago, in early November.
And the 25-year-old’s relatable image was evidenced once more when he carried his seven-month old son around the Camp Nou field as Barca celebrated winning their fourth Spanish title in five years last month.
However, this latest news rounds off a frustrating few weeks for the world’s best player as his brilliance on the field has also been tempered by injury.
A hamstring problem forced him to watch on from the sidelines as Bayern Munich hammered Barca 3-0 in the second-league of their Champions League semi-final to seal a record 7-0 aggregate defeat for the Catalans.
And a recurrence of the injury against Atletico Madrid early in May forced him to miss Barca’s last four league games of the campaign.
He returned just in time to take part in Argentina’s two World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Ecuador in the past week, but again his lack of fitness reduced his role to merely that of a substitute for the last half-hour of both matches as La Albiceleste could only manage two draws.
As a result, they are still a few points short of mathematically sealing their place at next year’s World Cup in Brazil.
And on the very day on which he was due to start his holidays after an exhausting 10-month long season, the Argentine star now must face up to the first serious scandal to affect his career.

Friendly match review: Tough U23 Viet Nam or weak U23 Myanmar

After beating Myanmar 2-0 in friendly comfortably, U 23 Viet Nam was supposed not to be strong whereas our opponent was weak.

Danh Ngọc ăn mừng bàn thắng

Danh Ngoc was cheerful his goal

In press conference, Coach Hoang Van Phuc seemed to be quite calm after 2-0 win over U23 Myanmar. According to mr Hoang van Phuc, there are still many weak points in U 23 Viet Nam squad especially the scoring. If Viet Nam players had showed exact scoring skills, the game wouldn’t have ended in 2-0. Moreover, facing with a not too strong opponent, U23 Viet Nam’s line of defence revealed many faults. If goalkeeper Nguyen Manh hadn’t concentrated highly when jumped up to push off the ball in the beginning of 1st half, Ko Chit’s header would have caused U23 Viet Nam drown into embarrassment.

Đội trưởng Mạnh Dũng

captain Manh Dung

However, we also praised our footballers for their performances. U23 Viet Nam has been better within a few days.  Launching the squad less than the latest game at My Dinh stadium against Japanese club 4 players, Viet Nam players had devoted sharp attacks which caused opponents embarrassed. Without Van Quyet, Van Thang, however the center back was kept safely by Huy Hung, especially captain Manh Dung. Besides Quang Hung, Hoang Thien, Đinh Hoang, Thanh Hao played successfully, Minh Tuan and Danh Ngoc deserved to be praised for their  flair in choosing position and good rotation in the pitch.

HLV Hoàng Văn Phúc và các học trò cần nhiều thời gian để cải thiện lối chơi

Coach Hoang Van Phuc and players need more time to improve playing style.

Talking about U23 Viet Nam’s win over Myanmar, mr Myint Aung said that: ” U23 Viet Nam had a better game than us in both  individual and tragedy. Our team had revealed much errors than you.” Viet Nam players understand that they shouldn’t too proud of their win,our goal is not only defeating the host SEA Games 27, but also the final game of SEA Games. Therefore, We must be stronger than now when facing with U23 Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore…

Florentino and Zidane begin the new era

This Wednesday, Forentino Pérez and Zinedine Zidane have scheduled an important meeting to decide Real Madrid’s sporting future. This meeting will not only decide the future role of the former player, but they will also cover other vitally important matters, such as the composition of the 2013-14 squad.

1370965022_extras_noticia_foton_7_1

Florentino and Zidane will meet to breathe life into Real Madrid’s new project, which will undoubtedly revolve around the legendary former ‘Blancos’ player, although the specific role he’ll play is still unknown. The club would prefer him to spend the majority of his time in its offices, whereas Zizou himself would prefer to spend more time out on the training field, especially if, as seems most likely just now, Carlo Ancelotti is the man chosen to take the reins of the first team.

And this is a team that still needs to be given a shape. The basic idea is that the side will be built around Cristiano Ronaldo, but the bigger picture still has to develop over time if Madrid hopes to return to title-winning ways. There are currently several names on the table, such as Gareth Bale, Luis Suárez or Cavani as potential reinforcements for the front line. And there is also another important area that needs to be taken into consideration – namely the players on their way out, with it now looking certain that Higuaín’s days as a Real player are numbered.

Lewandowski ‘definitely not’ going to Bayern, say Borussia Dortmund

Robert Lewandowski will not be making his anticipated move to Bayern Munich, the European Cup winners and Bundesliga champions, in this transfer window, according to the Borussia Dortmund’s chief executive officer Hans-Joachim Watzke.

Robert-Lewandowski-010

Bayern, who have just completed a treble-winning season, were fully expected to poach Lewandowski after already persuading the Dortmund midfielder Mario Götze to join them next season.

“Robert Lewandowski will definitely not transfer to Bayern Munich in 2013,” Watzke told Bild newspaper. “This is final. We have informed Robert and his advisers. The Bayern case is closed because there was no written offer.”

Dortmund, who won consecutive league titles from 2011 with Lewandowski but lost 2-1 to Bayern at Wembley in May, appeared to have little choice but to sell the player after he refused to extend a contract that ends next year.

Last week, the Poland international said he expects to move to his “club of choice” in a few days, but Watzke said Bayern never made a formal offer.

“It is absolutely legitimate for a player to express such a wish,” Watzke added. “There were two phone calls in the past four weeks with Bayern. We told Bayern that due to stock exchange rules [Dortmund are a listed company] we need a written offer for Lewandowski. But until today, no offer has come in. If Robert wants to go to Munich he will have another chance next year.”

Watzke, however, did not rule out the prospect of Lewandowski leaving for another club. “I am not saying he will definitely stay but he will certainly not be playing for Bayern in 2013,” Watzke said. “Everything else will be discussed with Robert and his advisers in the coming days. Our wish is for Robert to play for Borussia Dortmund next season.”

Benzema undergoes knee surgery

The Frenchman had been plagued by physical problems in the closing stages of the 2012-13 campaign and has therefore opted to go under the knife

images696292_244553hp2

Real Madrid have announced that Karim Benzema has successfully undergone surgery to shake off a persistent problem on his right knee.

The France international had been plagued by physical problems as the season went on and therefore decided to go under the knife in order to be fully match fit in time for the 2013-14 campaign.

Benzema featured for 70 minutes in France’s 3-0 international friendly loss against Brazil on Sunday, before undergoing surgery in Lyon the day after.

“Karim Benzema attended the Santy-Lyon Orthopaedic Centre on Monday afternoon, where he underwent a CAT scan on a ganglion on his right knee,” an official Madrid statement reads.

“The procedure was performed by Dr. Sonnery-Cottet under the supervision of Sanitas Medical Services Real Madrid.”

The striker, 25, netted 11 goals in 30 La Liga appearances for Madrid in 2012-13.

Suarez: Victimisation behind Liverpool exit wish

Luis Suarez has again spoken of his desire to leave the Premier League, where he believes he has been mistreated by the press and public.

996508-16196995-640-360

The Liverpool striker said he would be keen on a move to Real Madrid, but stressed that he had not received any offer from the Spanish giants.
He told the Uruguayan television programme RR Gol: “Every player would like to play for a huge team, and Real Madrid is a huge team. Every player wants to reach the top and Real Madrid are one of the top clubs, but everything that has been said so far is just speculation, I haven’t received any concrete offers.”
Suarez added: “I don’t know if I will become a Madrid player, the only thing I know is that I have a contract.”
Suarez has revealed before that he is not happy with life in the Premier League, where he feels he has been chastised by the media for his conduct, and aired his complaints once again, and he said: “The press have made me feel bad since the moment I arrived in England, they have never judged me on how I play football, they judged me on my attitude.”
Suarez also blamed his public perception for the reason he was not chosen as the PFA Player of the Year last season, adding: “They said I dived, moaned, postured, they said I was racist, they said everything.
“They have never spoken well of me. That’s why, when people said that I could have been chosen as the best player in the Premier League, I said: ‘I’m relaxed, I know that in England I’m never going to be given an important prize’.”
Although Suarez emphasised he enjoys playing for Liverpool and was particularly grateful to the support he has received from the Anfield faithful, he admitted his love for the club and its supporters may not be enough to convince him to stay.
“When I was a kid I dreamed of playing for Liverpool. I have been able to play with great players who know me well and I would love to spend many more years at Liverpool,” he said. “Their stadium is spectacular, their fans are phenomenal. Their fans have tattoos of me. I could never have imagined that.
“After the suspension the fans all supported me. That’s something I remember and it has made me think ‘Luis, forget it all and stay’. But I cannot forget it, because I have suffered, my family have suffered, and away from football I have a family that supports me, and these things hurt them.”

Perez: Get Real, Arsenal

FLORENTINO PEREZ has told Arsenal to get Real over their valuation of Madrid star Gonzalo Higuain.

Gonzalo-Higuain-008

The Gunners are locked in a tug of war with Juventus for the Argentina striker and Perez hinted he will cost upwards of £30m — much more than the £20m Arsenal were set to offer.

Real president Perez insisted he will demand top dollar for Higuain, 25, who has three years left on his Madrid deal.

He said: “With £25.5m it’s better that they don’t come.

“Let’s see if people ask us for £50m for everyone and we sell one of ours for half that.”

Perez has decided to block any bids for Higuain before finalizing the capture of new boss Carlo Ancelotti from Paris Saint-Germain.

The French champions are still playing hardball over Ancelotti who is set to take charge of the Spanish giants — as SunSport exclusively revealed on April 27.

Real want to give him the final say on whether Higuain is offloaded though the player has expressed a wish to quit the Bernabeu.

A move to Juventus seemed nailed on but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has tried to snatch him from under the noses of the Serie A champs after meeting his dad in Paris.

Mourinho “the happy one” at Chelsea

Jose Mourinho described himself as “the happy one” after being officially unveiled as Chelsea’s manager for the second time.

ke626

The Portuguese, who led Chelsea to back to back titles during his initial spell at the club between 2004 and 2007, has signed a new four-year deal to be the Blues’ new manager after leaving Real Madrid in the summer.
Mourinho famously described him as a “special one” at his first unveiling nine years ago, but on Monday he was a bit more restrained.
Speaking to about 250 journalists at Stamford Bridge, the 50-year-old said: “I am the happy one. I am very happy.
“Time flies. A lot of things happened in my professional life in the last nine years, but I have the same nature, I am the same person, I have the same heart, I have the same kind of emotions related to my passion for football and my job, but I am a different person in this moment.
“If I have to describe myself, I would describe myself as a very happy person because it’s the first time I arrive in a club where I already love the club.”
Mourinho left the club by mutual agreement six years ago, with many observers pointing to a perceived breakdown in his relationship with owner Roman Abramovich.
But he said on Monday: “First of all, that’s not true.
“I read and I keep hearing that I was fired, I was sacked, we had a complete breakdown of our relationship – that was not true.
“Many didn’t believe that but it was a mutual agreement. We thought it was best for both of us, for me and the club.”
Mourinho went on to win the 2010 Champions League with Inter Milan, while the Blues themselves won the competition two years later.
“It was a sad moment but I don’t regret that decision because after that I went to Inter, where I had probably the best moment of my career,” said Mourinho.
“After that I went to Madrid where we still have the record of the best team in Spanish history.
“For Chelsea things went well too, after that Chelsea were European champions for the first time.
“It was difficult for both of us but it was made by mutual agreement. Only because there was never a breakdown of the relationship is it possible for me to be here today.
“I think I’m back because we are in the best moments of our careers and ready to work together again. There are much better conditions at this time to succeed and have what we want, stability.”
Mourinho won two Barclays Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups during his three-year spell at Stamford Bridge.
The former Inter Milan boss has now set his sights on achieving even more success during his new period at the club, where he has signed a four-year contract.
“I want to believe it’s possible. I always trust my work,” he said.
“In this case I know many of the people that belong to the club and I know the kind of mentality people have here and my career was built and based on success where I was able to reach success and to win trophies.
“I want to everyone to work hard, work with quality.
“The club means much more compared to ourselves. We are no one without the club. If we work well success will arrive.”
Mourinho is aiming for a long second spell at Stamford Bridge after spending less than three years at both Inter and Real.
The Portuguese has always spoken of his love of the English game and it appears he is now hoping to settle in the Barclays Premier League.
“I am where I want to be so now it’s up to me to work hard to show my club that I deserve to be here for a long time,” he said.
“We have a contract of four years, in the first stage I hope we can look to the last day of his contract and if in the end the club is happy and wants me to stay I will be more than happy to do that.”
He added: “I think the culture in football is something very, very important for a manager.
“I did what I wanted to do and as I was saying since six, seven, eight months ago I wanted to go where I really like it very much and I was in a position to say which one is a league I prefer, which one is the club I prefer, which one is the mentality I prefer.
“First of all I decided that I was going to leave my previous club, that was like the trigger and I needed to make that decision and I made that decision.
“After that it was a question of analysing the situation, analyse the possibilities and make the decision which I believe is the best decison for my happiness.
“So when the Chelsea situation appears really and strongly, decision made.”
Mourinho is keen to reestablish club captain John Terry as a key figure in the team, after the central defender was marginalised at times last season under interim boss Rafael Benitez.
“From me, (there will be) not one word about Benitez’s decisions, on John or any other player,” he said.
“What I can say is about the future – (I’ll) meet John in the first week of July and try to get the best out of him.
“I know what he can give, let’s try to make him again a very important player which he couldn’t be last season.”
Terry’s situation was mirrored in Madrid last season as Mourinho left Real and Spain captain Iker Casillas on the substitutes’ bench for much of the season.
But the coach insists there was no fall-out with the goalkeeper and that he will assess each player on his merits.
“I play the players I think are the best for the team,” he said.
“If I think somebody deserves to play, he has to play. If somebody has a big profile, a big stature, a big career, I cannot give him a privilege.
“It was a football decision, I decided for one player and not the other and it is up to the player to accept it or not.
“All my decisions are based on meritocracy, then I can sleep well.”
