Vietnam claim AYA Bank Cup affter Having beaten Singapore 3-0

The Vietnam national men’s football team beat Singapore 3-0 to win the AYA Bank Cup football tournament in Myanmar.

TV2

Under the guidance of coach Huu Thang, the Vietnamese team played well. Vietnam started the game slow and gradually applied pressure on Singapore’s goal.

Both teams missed chances early on, with neither team fully committed to attacking and risking their back being open to counter attacks from the other side. With the score level at 0-0 after a fiercely contested 90 minutes, the game went to extra time.

Vietnam striker Le Cong Vinh opened the scoring two minutes into extra time after a brilliant pass from midfielder Van Quyet set him up to beat the Singaporean goalie. Seven minutes later, Van Quyet doubled Vietnam’s lead after the ball deflected off a Singaporean defender in the box from a pass from Cong Vinh.

Six minutes from the end, the win was complete when Van Toan was left in acres of space. He slipped a neat pass to Thanh Trung, who scored Vietnam’s third goal.

When the referee blew the final whistle, coach Nguyen Huu Thang had won his first international title since becoming national team manager in March this year.

Earlier, in the first match, Vietnam overcame Hong Kong 4-3 on penalty shootout after the two teams drew 2-2 after 120 minutes while Singapore beat the host Myanmar 1-0 to reach the final.

In the earlier third-place match, Myanmar defeated Hong Kong 3-0.

VN ready and eager for Futsal World Cup

There are abot three month left to Vietnam have their first performance in world cup. The players are practising hard for this debut. Bruno Garcia said Việt Nam find themselves in a difficult group for the upcoming Futsal World Cup but his team are 99 per cent ready to spring another surprise.

Thi đấu cọ xát nhiều sẽ giúp thầy trò HLV Bruno Garcia tự tin hơn

The tournament will be held in Colombia in September.

After the recent draw, Việt Nam have been placed in Group C along with world No 4 Italy, No 11 Paraguay and No 27 Guatemala.

“I think Group C and Group F are the most difficult ones in this World Cup. In fact, most coaches and people who attended the draw ceremony consider Group C the strongest,” Garcia told Việt Nam News in an email.
The Spanish coach says he has collected a lot of information about his opponents and has prepared plans to deliver the best results.
“We watched our opponents’ qualification matches at UEFA, CONCAFAC and COMENBOL and we have learnt their tactics by heart.”
According to Garcia, Italy are undoubtedly one of the favourites to win the cup. They were runners-up at the Chinese Taipei event in 2004 and won bronze medals in Brazil in 2008 and in Thailand in 2012.
He said Italian players have shown a lot of talent and experience in the strongest leagues of the world, such as the Spanish, Italian and Portuguese tournaments.
Paraguay are also a very competitive squad and Colombia 2016 will be their sixth World Cup. They went into the South American qualifying competition as one of the favourites and bagged the bronze medal. Paraguay rank behind Brazil and Argentina and display a similar style of playing to both these teams. Many of their players take part in the Italian and Spanish leagues.
Guatemala qualified in third position from the CONCACAF zone. Colombia 2016 will mark the country’s fourth appearance and third in succession at the World Cup. The team progressed to the knockout phase and finished at 10th place at Brazil 2008.
Meanwhile, world No. 41 Việt Nam are participating in their first ever World Cup after their surprise qualification from the Asian region.
“It is difficult but we have a great driving force behind our World Cup debut,” Garcia said.
“To qualify for the last-16 round we have to be one of the four teams with the best results in the group stage. It means we must collect at least four points and have a good goal difference.
“We will focus on the opening match with Guatemala on September 11, and they are also led by a Spanish coach. I know him very well because we often confronted each other in the Spanish league,” Garcia said.
The team’s second game is against Paraguay three days later, and they’ll play Italy on September 17.
It is the first time that Việt Nam will play Guatemala and Paraguay. In 2012, Việt Nam lost 0-9 to Italy in a friendly match.

But the difficulty lies not just in competing against strong rivals that have different playing styles. Việt Nam will play their first two matches in Cali and they then have to travel nearly 800km to Bucaramanga for the third game.
Garcia says the long journey will exhaust players and adversely affect their performance.

After the draw ceremony in Colombia last month, Garcia and the head of the Việt Nam Football Federation’s Futsal Department, Trần Anh Tú, surveyed the two cities where Việt Nam will play.

Cali is some 1,000m above sea level, while Bucaramanga is higher at 2,500m. The third challenge for the Vietnamese side after the two strong teams will be the high altitude and the lack of oxygen during these games.

The 42-year-old coach and the VFF have prepared a plan for the tournament.
“A team of 20 players will officially gather together on July 21 in HCM City. After three weeks of training, they will play a friendly match with an invited team before leaving for a training course in Spain,” Tú of the VFF said.
“In Spain, they will play three games, one of which is against the national team of the host nation. At the end of August they will fly to Argentina where they will practice and play with the national team of Argentina. They will then arrive in Colombia on September 6,” he said.
“We have been working for the past two years to build a skeletal national team and we have achieved this. We have tested more than 100 players during this time and we will retain almost the same squad that played at the AFC event,” Garcia said.
“I’m sure the Vietnamese people are proud of their team. We will try to better our performance step by step and I feel we will be able to continue giving more joy to our fans.

“It’s obvious we are the lowest-ranking team in our group, but the World Cup will be a really good chance for our players to get experience at the best tournament in the world. We are taking it as a great challenge and are only thinking about preparing a perfect match plan, game by game. We have surprised everyone in the AFC and we will try the same here,” he said

Vietnam will face Singapore after cruising past Hong Kong into AYA Bank Cup final

Vietnam defeated Hong Kong (China) 4-3 in a tense penalty shootout on June 3 to book a place in the final of the AYA Bank Cup 2016 in Yangon, Myanmar.

Vietnam created a number of scoring chances in the first half but failed to score due to a lack of accuracy in the attacks.

Four minutes after the break, Hong Kong suddenly cruised to the lead with a simple opener by captain Jamies MacKee.

Striker Le Cong Vinh equalised for Vietnam in the 58th minute before putting the red colour side ahead with his second goal three minutes later.

However, defensive mistakes made Vietnam pay as MacKee went on to score in the 77th minute to restore the parity, forcing the match to be decided on penalties.

Vietnam won the penalty shootout with a score of 4-3 to set up a final match with Singapore, who edged out hosts Myanmar 1-0 in the second semifinal the same day.

Vietnam thrash Syria 2-0 in international friendly

Two goals scored by Le Cong Vinh and Nguyen Van Quyet fired Vietnam on to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Syria in their international friendly match at Hanoi’s My Dinh Stadium on May 31.

The hosts played offensively right from the first whistle and created a number of scoring opportunities in the opening minutes.

Syria enjoyed two concrete chances in the 11th and 18th minutes but finishes by Omari and Al Mawas were not accurate nor cunning enough to be converted into goals.

Despite dominating ball possession, it was not until the 34th minute that Vietnam succeeded in beating Syrian goalkeeper Almeh, with top striker Cong Vinh heading home Thanh Luong’s beautiful left-wing pass to put the hosts in front.

Niềm vui chiến thắng của tuyển Việt Nam

Inspired by the opener, Vietnam began playing more confidently and managed to have their advantage doubled in first-half injury time. Xuan Truong made a spectacular pass to Van Quyet, who managed to sneak past a Syrian defender and goalie Almeh for an accurate shot into the empty net.

The 2-0 score remained unchanged throughout the second half despite the guests’ concerted efforts to earn a consolation.

After the match, Vietnam will have a few days off before participating in the AYA Bank Cup 2016 to be hosted in Yangon, Myanmar from June 3 to 6.

Vietnam will face Hong Kong (China) in the first semifinal, followed by the second to be played between Singapore and Myanmar. The winners will face each other in the final while the losers will play each other for third place.

David Beckham has sent his congratulations to Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, who won the Champions League at his first attempt with Los Blancos on Saturday.

Zidane took charge of the Bernabeu side earlier this season after Rafa Benitez was sacked and led Madrid to their 11th European Cup triumph in Milan as his side overcame city rivals Atletico 3-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time.

Posting on his Instagram account, the ex-England captain, who was also a team-mate of Zizou’s at Real, said: “Congratulations my friend this couldn’t of [sic] happened to a nicer and more passionate person… Hala Madrid”

Ronaldo nets decisive penalty as Real defeat Atletico

Cristiano Ronaldo netted the decisive goal as Real Madrid claimed their 11th Champions League title with a 5-3 victory over Atletico Madrid on penalties after extra time had ended in a 1-1 draw at the San Siro on Saturday night.

Match summary

Los Blancos made a perfect start to the match, claiming the lead after just 15 minutes through Sergio Ramos’ close-range finish.

Atletico recovered well from conceding the early goal and threatened to draw level on more than one occasion through the lively Antoine Griezmann. However, Real saw out the remainder of the first half with relative ease, taking a slender advantage into the half-time interval.

Los Colchoneros came flying out of the traps in the second stanza and won a penalty after just one minute, only for Griezmann to strike the crossbar from the resulting spot-kick.

It looked like it just wasn’t meant to be for Atletico after the missed a series of good chances, with Real coming back into the match as the second half wore on.

And, just moments after Bale saw his low shot cleared off the line, Atletico levelled matters when Yannick Carrasco volley home from close range.

Real redoubled their efforts in extra time, trying their luck from range on more than one occasion. However, with neither side able to fashion a clear-cut opportunity, the match headed to a penalty shootout.

Both teams netted all three of their opening spot-kicks, and after Sergio Ramos netted Real’s fourth, Juanfran saw his penalty come back off the left-hand post.

Ronaldo stepped up to take Real’s fifth spot-kick and made no mistake, converting with aplomb to send their supporters into wild celebrations.

Full report

The match started at a good tempo, with both sides looking to grab an early lead at a packed San Siro.

Atletico had the first chance of the game, Koke firing a tame shot straight at Keylor Navas after just five minutes of play.

However, Real should have claimed the lead just one minute later when Casemiro met Gareth Bale’s inswinging free-kick just six yards out. However, the midfielder failed to make solid contact and Atleti Jan Oblak got enough on the ball to keep it out.

Real continued to press forward in search of the opener and eventually got the breakthrough they were looking for in the 15th minute, following a well worked free-kick. Toni Kroos sent the ball towards the danger area and Bale got his head to the ball, flicking it into the path of Ramos, who bundled the ball over the line from close range.

Atletico had struggled to impose themselves on proceedings, but managed to steady the ship after falling behind and grew in confidence as the half wore on.

In fact, they ended the first half on the front foot after creating a series of good scoring chances.

Juanfran fired over the bar from outside the box in the 25th minute, while Griezmann saw his long-range effort comfortably snapped up by Keylor Navas in the centre of the Real goal on 34 minutes.

And Griezmann proved to be Atleti’s main attacking outlet in the final five minutes of the half as Fernando Torres failed to make an impact.

However, the France international could not find the cutting edge in front of goal, firing straight at Navas again in the 40th minute, before shooting wide from outside the box on the stroke of half-time.

Having produced a disappointing performance in the first half, Atletico would have undoubtedly been on the receiving end of the hairdryer treatment at the half-time break.

Diego Simeone’s men responded in kind at the start of the second half, winning a penalty inside the first minute of play following Pepe’s foul on Torres just inside the area. However, the chance went abegging as Griezmann fired the resulting spot-kick against the crossbar to let Real off the hook.

Determined not let that missed chance derail their charge, Atletico redoubled their efforts.

However, efforts from Stefan Savic, Koke and Saul Niguez failed to find the mark as Real were forced to sit back and soak up the pressure. Savic, in particular, will be bitterly disappointed after failing to force the ball home from just six yards out.

Having weathered the storm, Real slowly began to claw their way back into contention. they should have doubled their lead in the 72nd minute when Karim Benzema raced clear on the right flank and made a driving run into the danger area. However, rather than slip the ball into the path of a teammate, the Frenchman elected to shoot, and Oblak did well to deny the striker.

Torres, who had been virtually anonymous apart from winning the penalty at the start of the half, had a great chance to level the scores three minutes later, but headed over from Filipe Luis’ inviting cross.

Real hit back with two chances in quick succession, though, Ronaldo firing straight into the arms of a Oblak, before Bale saw his angled shot cleared off the line following a frantic scramble in the box.

Just when it seemed Real would force a second, Atletico struck in the 79th minute. Juanfran, bombing down the right-hand flank, whipped a first-time cross into the danger area, where half-time substitute Carrasco nipped ahead of his marker to slam the ball into the roof of the net with a close-range volley.

Torres went agonisingly close to netting a winner just four minutes later, but fired wide from the right-hand side of the six-yard box. And that was the last chance of note as the opening 90 minutes drew to a close with a series of free-kicks at both ends of the pitch.

Despite looking somewhat fatigued, Real started the first half of extra time brightly, Casemiro seeing his speculative effort from range snapped up by Oblak, before Bale fired high and wide from outside the box.

And they were left ruing their luck in the 94th minute when Ronaldo’s mistimed header came back of his knee before being gratefully collected by Oblak.

Zinedine Zidane’s men continued to create chances, but failed to cause Oblak any real problems as both Luka Modric and Danilo failed to hit the target with respective shots from outside the box.

Atletico eventually lodged their first effort of extra time on goal on the stroke of half-time, Griezmann firing over with an acrobatic bicycle kick from the right-hand side of the box.

The second half of extra time proved to be a stop-start affair as both sides showed signs of severe fatigue. And with neither side able to create any clear-cut chances the match ended in a 1-1 draw, going to the lottery of a penalty shootout.

Lucas Vazques, Marcelo, Bale and Ramos netted Real’s first four spot-kicks, while Griezmann, Gabi and Saul Niguez converted for Atleti, before Juanfran saw his penalty come back off the left-hand post.

Ronaldo stepped up to take the fifth and decisive penalty for Real and kept his nerve, sending the keeper the wrong way to seal a 5-3 win on penalties.

Manchester United fans give Mourinho cautious welcome

Manchester United fans welcomed Jose Mourinho’s appointment as the club’s new manager on Friday but said the pressure was now on to deliver quick results for a team whose recent form has been lacklustre

scarves-featuring

“I think the new manager will bring a bit more flair into United,” said Peter Davy, standing outside the club’s Old Trafford ground as three hawkers stood selling scarves bearing the Portuguese coach’s image.

Davy said he thought Mourinho’s predecessor Louis van Gaal, who was booted out unceremoniously on Monday despite leading United to victory in the FA Cup final two days beforehand, should have been given another chance.

But he said he was hoping for a change of pace.

“I think they will play a different style of football, which the other manager didn’t do,” he told AFP.

“I don’t think he was playing enough attacking football for my liking.”

Friday’s copy of the Manchester Evening News carried a front-page photo of Mourinho in the club’s red colour with the simple headline: “He’s the One”.

Also passing by the storied 75,600-capacity stadium was Steve Roland, who said he tried never to miss a game and warned the new manager would have to adapt quickly.

“Mourinho’s going to be coming into a situation where he’s going to have to change some of his ways and he’s got three years to do it,” he said.

“I don’t want this first year to be: ‘I’m just testing the waters’. I want us to hit the ground running. I don’t want us a draw,” he added.

Like many fans, Roland said he still remembered the shock of his team being knocked out of the Champions League at the hands of Mourinho’s Porto side in 2004.

Mourinho had celebrated in front of the United fans.

“Some fans have still got that in their top drawer,” Roland grumbled, pointing to his head.

Tim Ballham, who said he supported a different team but declined to say which one, complained that Van Gaal had been treated “terribly” in the past few days.

“He did well bringing in the young players but their style of football was pretty bad to watch and I don’t think Jose is the right man for them,” he said.

“Who knows. He does win things and every football fan wants that don’t they? So he might well win them something and something big but I can’t see it long term myself.

“I might be proven wrong but there you go.”

Mourinho agrees to become Manchester United manager

Jose Mourinho has agreed to become the new manager of Manchester United, according to British media reports on Thursday (May 26).

the-prospect-of-jose

Mourinho has been in negotiations with United since Louis van Gaal’s sacking on Monday and it is understood an agreement is now in place for the former Chelsea manager to take charge at Old Trafford.

The 53-year-old is reportedly yet to sign a contract, but official confirmation from United is expected by Friday after the deal was delayed due to discussions over Mourinho’s image rights.

Mourinho is said to have been offered a three-year contract that will pay him £10 million (US$14 million) per season, which is double the salary earned by Van Gaal during his troubled two-year reign.

It was also reported Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea in December, is set to be given bonuses that will pay £5 million and £2.5 million respectively if he leads United to the Champions League or Premier League title.

It emerged Chelsea had owned Mourinho’s name as a trademark since 2005 and could demand a six-figure sum from United before his new club were able to use it to sell merchandise such as toiletries, technology, clothing and jewellery.

There was also a potential conflict between Mourinho’s personal deals and United’s own sponsors because the Portuguese coach has contracts with Jaguar and Hublot Watches, while United’s shirts sponsors are Chevrolet and they also have an arrangement with watchmaker Bulova.

But talks between Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes and United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward are believed to have resolved those problems and look to have paved the way for the controversial and charismatic boss to fulfil his long-held dream of managing the Manchester giants.

Mourinho was seen strolling back to his town house in the upmarket London district of Belgravia wearing a smart black suit and clutching documents on Thursday and soon after those images emerged it was reported he had agreed the deal.

TRUE WINNER

Assuming there is no last minute hitch, the former Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Porto boss will take charge of United for the first time when the club face Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai on July 22 on the first leg of two-game tour of China.

However, Mourinho should appear on the home bench at Old Trafford before then because he is due to take charge of an England XI in a charity game for Unicef against a Rest of the World XI on Jun 5.

Although United legend Eric Cantona this week claimed the acerbic Mourinho, renowned for his negative tactics, was not a good fit, the club’s former defender Rio Ferdinand was quick to welcome his impending arrival.

“I have heard many say the ‘Mourinho way’ is not the Manchester United style of playing football,” Ferdinand said.

“However, the Chelsea team that Jose put together first time round when he entered the Premier League played with wingers and hurt teams with quick attacking play.

“This is a sign he knows how to get a team playing in a way Manchester United fans can look forward to seeing. One thing I can tell Manchester United fans is that they have got themselves a true winner in all aspects. His CV shows success.”

After opting against hiring Mourinho when Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, the dismal failures of David Moyes and then Van Gaal have persuaded United owners, the Glazer family, to sanction the hiring of the controversial boss.

Mourinho’s second spell at Chelsea came to an embarrassing end, with the Premier League champions languishing near the relegation zone amid what the club called “palpable discord” between the manager and his players.

Yet his record as a serial winner, with 21 trophies including three Premier League titles and two Champions League crowns, persuaded United he was the man to rebuild a squad that grew increasingly disenchanted with life under the schoolmasterly Van Gaal.

The Dutchman led 10-man United to a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in Saturday’s FA Cup final and hoped that would be enough to save his job.

But winning United’s first major trophy since 2013 wasn’t enough to make up for the team’s failure to qualify for the Champions League after they finished fifth in the Premier League.

With official confirmation of his appointment still to come, Mourinho is reported to already be lining up new signings. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who played under Mourinho at Inter Milan, is one target and on Thursday he hinted a move to Old Trafford could be on the cards.

The Sweden striker has left Paris Saint Germain and, asked if there had been an offer from United, Ibrahimovic said with a smile: “If you want action you bring Mourinho. “I don’t give guarantees but there are concrete offers from the Premier League, so let’s see what happens.”

FA Cup quarter-final replays scrapped

FA Cup quarter-final replays will be scrapped from next season, the Football Association announced on Thursday (May 26).

the-manchester-united

The last-eight stage of the cup competition will revert to a sudden-death format over one weekend in a bid to ease English football’s congested fixture list.

“The Emirates FA Cup remains at the heart of English football and this change adds to the excitement of the competition and will benefit the wider game in general,” FA chief executive Martin Glenn said.

“In a demanding calendar and with increased pressures on fans, it is important we move with the times and consider new innovations. While fully respecting tradition and history, this new development will help the cup retain its status as a much-loved and world-renowned competition.”

As it stands, replays will continue to take place in the earlier rounds of the competition. The decision means the last FA Cup quarter-final replay was Manchester United’s 2-1 win over West Ham at Upton Park this season.

In 1991, the FA abolished its system that allowed multiple replays in FA Cup ties, with the limit being changed to one replay, followed by a penalty shoot-out if the teams remained tied.

FA Cup semi-final replays were phased out after 1999. Ryan Giggs settled the last semi-final replay with his famous solo goal for Manchester United against Arsenal at Villa Park.
