- Valencia sneak past Granada10:49 | 26/09/2015
Valencia picked up their first home win of the new campaign with a 1-0 victory over Granada at the Mestalla on Friday night.
The visitors started the brighter of the two teams, but neither of their early chances came to fruition.
Ruben Rochina sent in a free kick that was saved by the keeper, while Javier Marquez’ shot shortly after was just too high.
Isaac Success also could have put Granada in front, but while his first touch was superb and got him into position, his finish was less effective.
Valencia started playing themselves into the match, and after Alvaro Negredo nearly opened the scoring with a well struck shot, Zakaria Bakkali’s corner in the 26th minute did the trick, Shkodran Mustafi finding himself in the right position to head the ball home as the hosts took the lead.
Granada probably should have equalised within moments of that opening goal, but while Marquez’ lofted ball beat the keeper, it did not beat the woodwork.
Negredo thought he had scored Valencia’s second just after the break after finding himself in the box unmarked, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
Valencia keeper Jaume Domenech protected his side’s lead with a fingertip save to deny Marquez, while Negredo continued to make his presence felt at the other end.
The final chance of the match fell to Thievy Bifoumi, and though his effort was blocked in injury time, Valencia had already done enough to secure all three points.Source Foxsports
