• Australia and New Zealand cohost World Cup – a historic opportunity for Vietnam national women’s team

As Australia and New Zealand have adopted the right to co-host the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the opportunity for Vietnam national Women’s team to present at the global largest football playground for women is opened wide.

FIFA has just announced the hosts of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Accordingly, 22/25 votes indicate Australia and New Zealand as the co-hosts of the upcoming playground for women, while just 13/35 votes support Colombia.

This is a very good news for Vietnam national women’s team. Following the current women’s World Cup expansion plan, Asia owns 8.5 among 32 spots for the world final round.

Australia is a member of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and plays the role of a host of the tournament, thus, the national women’s team of the land of Kangaroos automatically present at the final round. This either means that AFC’s spots for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup maintain 8.5, while other national teams do not have to confront such a strong team like Australia in the qualification round.

According to FIFA’s ranking, Vietnam national women’s team stands 6th, even above Thailand but behind Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, and North Korea.

Without Australia in the qualification round for 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Vietnam national women’s team will possess the 5th position among the strongest candidates for the spots. This means the opportunity for coach Mai Đức Chung and his players is wider than when Australia is not a host and has to compete in the qualification round.

With an absolutely higher level, Japan, South Korea, China, and North Korea are considered as default teams winning the tickets to Australia in the next 3 years. The race to get the remaining 4.5 spots is predicted to take place between Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Chinese Taipei, Philippines, India, Uzbekistan, and Jordan because the other teams are too weak to lay hope on.

Among the above teams, the possible ones considered as big opponents who can cause difficulty to Vietnam include Thailand, Myanmar, Philippines, and Chinese Taipei. But once playing seriously without subjectivity, it is hard for the 5th and 6th spots to fall out of Vietnam and Thailand.
