Radamel Falcao looks set to leave Copa del Rey champions Atletico Madrid, according to the club’s general manager Miguel Angel Gil Marin.

The Colombia international is currently one of the hottest properties in European football after two stunning seasons in La Liga, where his goal-scoring feats have failed to garner as much acclaim as they should have only due to the presence of Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi of Barcelona.

Nonetheless, his record of 70 goals in 91 games for the club thus far has made him one of the continent’s most-lethal strikers and has resulted in interest from a host of top sides like Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United.

And it now appears he will be allowed to leave the club at the end of the season after firing them into next season’s UEFA Champions League with a third-place finish in La Liga this term.

“Before the start of the season, we spoke with Falcao,” Marin said.

“We promised if he kept the same performances and helped us to qualify for the Champions League, we would help him.

“Whatever decision he takes, we will be with him.”

The Rojiblancos supremo went on to dismiss suggestions the club would falter without their talismanic striker, insisting they had managed to cope with the departures of Fernando Torres, Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan in recent history.

“We know what makes a good striker,” Marin added. “We have sold and replaced Fernando Torres, Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero.

“And now it is Falcao. I don’t know who will be here next season, but you can be sure Atletico will have a strong team.”

Although the 27-year-old has long been linked with a move to the Barclays Premier League, recent reports have hinted he could be heading to France to join fallen giants Monaco, who have only just reclaimed their top-flight status after being crowned champions of Ligue 2.
