Dundee Utd sign Osman Sow, Mark Reynolds, Peter Pawlett, Calum Butcher & Mark Connolly.

Dundee United have signed a whole new team in the month of January

Reynolds, 31, joins the Championship club on loan having not played since May, and Sow, 28, arrives from MK Dons for an undisclosed fee.

It means the club have recruited 11 new players in January.

United signed forward Peter Pawlett, defender Mark Connolly, and midfielder Calum Butcher earlier on Thursday.

They also paid a further undisclosed fee to MK Dons for ex-Aberdeen winger Pawlett, 27, and another to fellow League Two side Crawley Town for ex-Kilmarnock captain Connolly, 27.

Scot Pawlett and Irishman Connolly have both signed until the end of the 2021 season, while Englishman Butcher, 27, who had two years with United before leaving for Burton Albion in 2015, returns on a 18-month deal.

Pawlett, who spent 10 years at Aberdeen, was initially taken south by United head coach Robbie Neilson when he was in charge of MK Dons.

“I know Peter well and am delighted to have him here,” said Neilson. “His pace and direct style will be a great addition to our team, and he brings real quality.

“Calum will add strength and drive to our midfield and he has grown as a player during his spell back in England, and Mark is a strong defender and a leader. He brings great experience and an excellent attitude to the dressing room and pitch.”

Scot Reynolds has played 237 games Aberdeen after joining from Sheffield Wednesday and appeared more than 200 times for Motherwell.

“Mark is a quality defender and has great experience,” Neilson said. “He will be an important part of the squad both on and off the park.”

Swede Sow, who has joined until the summer of 2020, played for Neilson at Hearts and MK Dons.

“He brings real quality and he is a proper striker who improves our options in the final third,” Neilson said.

The quintet join striker Cammy Smith, midfielders Morgaro Gomis, Ian Harkes and Aidan Nesbitt, right-back Charlie Seaman and goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw in signing this month.

Meanwhile, United midfielder Fraser Aird has joined Championship rivals Queen of the South and defender Adam Barton has gone to Welsh club Connah’s Quay Nomads, both on loan until the end of the season.
