- Ivanovic praise for hard-fought win08:37 | 29/02/2016
Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has described the 2-1 win over Southampton on Saturday as their most difficult away game of the season.
Ivanovic grabbed a last-gasp winning goal with a powerful header in the 89th minute to help the Blues record back-to-back wins for the first time since Guus Hiddink took over at Stamford Bridge.
With the match seemingly heading for a 1-1 draw, after goals from Cesc Fabregas and Shane Long, Ivanovic scored from a Willian corner kick to send the home supporters into wild celebrations.
The Blues subsequently extended their unbeaten run in the league to 11 games to move to 11th in Premier League table with 36 points.
“I didn’t actually see the ball go into the net but it is fantastic, a great feeling,” Ivanovic told the club’s official website.
“I think these goals are not important for the individual but they are important for us and we work as a team. It was a very difficult game, I think the hardest game away for us this season.
“We had to work really, really hard for these three points. We controlled the game but Southampton were very difficult to defend against because they played very well in counter-attack, but we scored our goals and I think we deserved these big three points.
“Every time when we relax even for a few seconds we lose points so we have to go step by step. We have in three days another game and we have to be very careful because it is another away game against a difficult opponent, but we will be focused and we will try to take everything we can from this season.”
