Edward Upson’s towering late header sent Yeovil into the League One play-off final after the Glovers beat Sheffield United 2-0 and 2-1 on aggregate.

Kevin Dawson struck early to put Yeovil ahead but Sheffield United dominated for long periods and threatened to level when Jamie Murphy crashed a shot against the bar.

Yeovil spurned chances to put the game to bed and the game seemed to be heading towards extra time.

But Upson sent Yeovil to Wembley with an 85th minute header, with thousands of Yeovil fans invading the pitch at full time.

Huish Park was rocking at kick off, as the prospect of Championship football was touching distance away. And the sparkling atmosphere spurred Yeovil on, as they started the stronger.

Pinning the Blades back for the first five minutes, it was no surprise when they when ahead through Dawson, who latched onto James Hayter’s brilliant through ball, and finished first time under the on rushing George Long.

But Yeovil failed to capitalise on their advantage and allowed United a series of first half chance, that should have seen them level before the break.

The best of them fell to Murphy, who collected Callum McFadzean’s pass and bent a superb shot beyond Marek Stech, only to see the ball crash back off the bar.

Yeovil improved after the break and created a host of chances to win it, with the best chance headed over by top scorer Paddy Madden from six yards.

But with time running out, Upson met Madden’s pinpoint cross from the right to head in a priceless winning goal that gives the Glovers a shot at Championship football, 10 years after they were promoted from the Conference.
