The Italian’s international prospects have been dented by his lack of playing time at Anfield, admits the Azzurri boss

Mario Balotelli has been told by Antonio Conte he must play more for Liverpool if he is going to win back his Italy place.

Conte excluded Balotelli from his squad, which drew with England last night in Turin, because he cannot hold down a regular starting place at Anfield.

Balotelli has been a peripheral figure for the last few months and Conte says he cannot pick him for the Azzurri if he is not playing.

“I am keeping an eye on everything the League offers,” he said

“I went to see Southampton play Liverpool and only Graziano Pelle played, as Balotelli and Fabio Borini were on the bench.

“The doors are open to everyone who shows during their displays that they know what the Italy jersey represents.

“I hope Balotelli can give Liverpool significant support and play more often.

“If this should happen, the doors are open for the national team. We need these players to send us important messages and we will be ready to receive them.”
