The man abused by racist Chelsea fans on the Paris Metro on Tuesday says that while he appreciates the Portuguese’s offer, he is unlikely to come to Stamford Bridge
The man prevented from getting on a Paris Metro train by racist Chelsea fans on Tuesday has suggested he is unlikely to take up the club’s invitation to come to Stamford Bridge.Video footage circulated on social media this week showed a group of Blues supporters twice pushing a man named by Le Parisien as Souleymane S. out of their train carriage at Richelieu Drouot station prior to their club’s 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes.
Chelsea have suspended three fans as a result of investigations into the incident and confirmed on Friday that they had written to Souleymane to apologise and invite him and his family to next month’s return leg at Stamford Bridge.
“We feel ashamed and we want to apologise to the gentleman,” Mourinho told reporters at his pre-match press conference. “Even if he doesn’t like football, put him in the director’s box, people will give him a reaction and he will realise that Chelsea is completely the opposite of what happened.
“I’m sure he will get a fantastic reaction, in a way where the fans can express how sad they were about it.”
But speaking to Le Parisien, Souleymane responded: “I appreciate Mr Mourinho’s invitation, but I can’t get my head around being in a stadium at the moment.”
