The Super Eagles had been the latest African team to protest over how much they were being paid by their FA, but an NFF official insisted they will not copy Ghana’s solution.

Nigeria’s bonus row will not be sorted by flying in a “plane of cash”, according to a statement from a Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) official, in an apparent dig at Ghana.

Ghana’s president had to send €2.2 million over the Atlantic Ocean in a bid to persuade the Black Stars to play their final Group G game against Portugal, which they ultimately lost 2-1, resulting in World Cup elimination.

Nigeria, who finished second in Group F to reach the last 16, had so far avoided money rows which had clouded their participation in the Confederations Cup a year ago, but they refused to train on Thursday in a bid to get their bonuses fast-tracked.

However, on Friday the Super Eagles were back in training ahead of Monday’s clash with France and, although Nigerian officials refused to confirm if the players had been paid, there will apparently be no further protestations.

“There are no problems,” a NFF press officer said in a statement. “The players are not owed any money.

“A meeting took place on Thursday involving the players and the coach. No plane with cash will be flown in.”

Nigeria have not been involved in the World Cup knockout phase in 16 years and will be hoping to reach the tournament’s quarter-final stage for the first time in their history.

Should Stephen Keshi’s men cause a major upset by defeating Didier Deschamps’ unbeaten France side, they will face either Germany or Algeria in the last eight for a place in the semi-finals.
