Manchester United’s famed class of ’92 were reunited as David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes enjoyed a night out.

The six United legends had a lot to catch up when they met up at the Artisan Bar & Restaurant in Manchester on Monday, 22 years to the day since Beckham signed his first professional contract at Old Trafford.
The six, branded Fergie’s Fledglings, helped transform United and set the club on their way to two decades of dominance of English football.

Even before United won the FA Youth Cup in 1992 there had been talk of a crop of youngsters to compare with the Busby Babes, who won the first competition in 1953.
Each player was developed by United from a very early age, some signing schoolboy forms with the club at the age of just 14.
The term ‘Fergie’s Fledglings’ came back into common usage during the 1995–96 season, after Ferguson largely used this group of youngsters coming through to replace a number of distinguished older players who had left the club

Following a 3–1 opening day away defeat by Aston Villa, pundit Alan Hansen commented on Match of the Day ‘You’ll never win anything with kids.’
The young side, with an average age of just 24, then went on to overturn Newcastle United’s 12-point Christmas lead to win the club’s third league title in four years, followed up by a 1–0 win over Liverpool in the 1996 FA Cup final to secure the Double.
A period of great success followed, the most outstanding triumph being the Treble in 1999.
Many of the class of ’92 became regulars for both club and country during this time and Beckham became captain of England and broke Bobby Moore’s record for number of caps won by an outfield player.

Ryan Giggs

The 39-year-old was first of Fergie’s Fledglings. The Welshman is the most decorated player in the history of Premier League.
He holds a record 13 Premier League winner medals as well as two Champions League medals. He has just signed a new one-year contract and joined the United coaching staff.

David Beckham

Twice runner up for FIFA World Player of the Year, Beckham announced his retirement aged 38 in the summer after helping PSG win the French title.
He also played for Real Madrid, AC Milan and LA Galaxy.
Becks graced the famous No 7 jersey of Manchester United and he is still a favourite at Old Trafford after refusing to play for another Premier League club despite several offers.

Paul Scholes

Scholes came back from retirement to bolster the United midfield after the club had been hit by injury and loss of form He has made 700 appearances for the club, the third highest in their history.

Gary Neville

The former United skipper won a total of eight Premier League titles. He formed a partnership with Beckham on the right wing and made 85 appearances for England. Since retiring, Gary has forged a successful media career as a pundit for Sky Sports and columnist for the Mail on Sunday.

Phil Neville

The younger of the Neville brothers was also a crucial part of the class of 1992, but was unable to establish himself as a first choice left-back until 2000 due to the consistency of Denis Irwin. In 2005, Phil joined Everton on a and was handed the captain’s armband. Returned to United as first-team coach.

Nicky Butt

Butt ended his career in 2011 at South China, a club in Hong Kong. Butt, now a reserve team coach at Manchester United, was a midfielder and spent 12 years at Old Trafford before sealing a move to Newcastle United in 2004.

Terry Cooke

The seventh player to feature in the famous ‘Fergie Fledglings’ picture, Cooke failed to make the breakthrough and after a succession of loan moves before moving across town to Manchester City. After two goals in 20 games he moved on to Grimsby Town, Colorado Rapids and North Queensland Fury. Spent last season at Gabala in Azerbaijan.
