- Vietnamese football team coach calls for fan support14:49 | 21/11/2014
Toshiya Miura, coach of Vietnamese national football team expressed his worry that not many people will attend the upcoming AFF match.
The national football team Miura estimated that there were only between 2,000 and 3,000 people at the stadium during a recent match against Palestine and that he hoped fans would increase their level of support.
Players have also spoken about the indifference of fans, saying that they are often unfavourably compared to the U19 Vietnam.
“I’ve never seen so few people at at My Dinh Stadium. We have been in training and we represent football in this country. We can’t understand why the fans don’t appreciate that,” said Dang Phuong Nam, assistant coach.
While some complain of high prices, it would seem that there is a general lack of interest in the national team. In comparison, just two months ago, Vietnam Football Federation ticket offices were overwhelmed by fans who stood in long queues to purchase tickets to U19 matches.
“The national team will be stronger with more support, and we hope that more people will come to see us play at My Dinh Stadium,” said Miura.
