Vietnam have won an early ticket to the Round of 16 in the men’s football (soccer) event at the 2014 Asian Games (Asiad) prior to their last group stage game next week after their remaining rivals of Group H drew 1-1 in Incheon, South Korea on Thursday.
Vietnamese players are pictured training on September 18 for the September 22 clash with Kyrgyzstan in the men’s football event of the 2014 Asian Games in South Korea.
Kyrgyzstan and Iran had a scoreless first half before Iranian defender Pouraliganji Morteza took his team to a 1-0 lead in the 77th minute, according to what was seen by Tuoi Tre News in a live TV broadcast.
The Kyrgyzstan side leveled the score two minutes before the end with a goal by midfielder Otkeev Avazbek.
Iran had 59 percent of the ball possession, while Kyrgyzstan managed to convert one of its mere two shots on target, statistics on the 2014 Asiad website show.
This was the opening game for Kyrgyzstan in the event, where all teams use under-23 players, whereas Iran already finished their group stage competition.
The Iranians suffered a shock 1-4 defeat to Vietnam on Monday.
With only three teams playing in Group H, Vietnam have automatically advanced to the last-16 round regardless of the result of the clash with Kyrgyzstan in their last group stage match on September 22.
Vietnam currently top Group H with three points.
The two teams with the most points in the group will advance to the Round of 16, scheduled to begin on September 25.
Twenty-nine teams are playing in the men’s football event. Group A to Group E have four teams each, while each of Group F, G and H consists of three teams.Source Tuioitrenews
