Vietnam’s U21 team have set up an October 25 semifinal clash against U19 Hoang Anh Gia Lai JMG after drawing 1-1 with U21 Thailand in their last Group A game of the 2014 Thanh Nien Newspaper International U21 Football Tournament in Can Tho city on October 23 .

U21 Vietnam lagged behind after 11 minutes as Sruamprakum scored the opener for the Thai team; however, Van Dai managed to equalise just a few minutes before the break.

The hosts prevailed over the remainder of the match with better ball possession and constant attacks on the guest side, but none of their scoring opportunities were successfully converted.

The 1-1 draw was enough to keep U21 Vietnam atop the group standings with four points. U21 Thailand placed second winning two points after two draws.

Earlier on Thursday , U19 Hoang Anh Gia Lai were prevented from advancing directly into the semifinal as a result of their surprising 1-2 loss to U21 Sydney. The team had to vie for a semifinal berth through a ballot draw − conducted at the end of the match − which saw U21 Sydney out.

U21 Vietnam will play U19 Hoang Anh Gia Lai in the first semifinal match tomorrow, while the second semifinal, scheduled on Sunday, will see competition between U21 Thailand and U21 Malaysia .

U21 Singapore and U21 Sydney will battle it out for the fifth place in an October 25 playoff match.
