The HCM City Football Federation (HFF) has released a book titled “Landmarks in the 100-year History of Vietnamese Football,” the first ever of its kind.

The book is written by famous novelist Nguyen Quang Sang with assistance from HFF president Tran Duy Long and several sports journalists who collected materials.

The book traces the establishment and development of the game in Viet Nam.

It answers questions like “Since when football has existed in Viet Nam?” and “Where the country’s first football team was formed?”

It also covers the history of the national championships since the country’s unification in 1975, the champions, top scorers and other statistics. It attempts to chronicle Viet Nam’s achievements and has accounts by star players like Le Huynh Duc and Nguyen Hong Son.

But critics say the book has failed to portray a complete picture of football in the country, and has also missed out some famous names like Tran Cong Minh.
