- Highlights of V-League 2016 Round 600:14 | 20/04/2016
Hai Phong claiming their sixth win in a row; Saigon FC debuting on home field; and Hanoi T&T securing their first victory are among the five most notable points of the sixth round of the 2016 V-League.
1. Hai Phong extend winning streak to six matches
Hai Phong continued to fly high in the 2016 V-League with a 1-0 win against Dong Thap last weekend. The sixth victory in a row kept the northern port city team dominantly atop the standings with 18 points. Hai Phong’s success stems from a simple but effective counterattack strategy, with Fagan and Stevens as spearheads in their offensive lines.
2. Saigon FC debut at new home stadium
Hanoi FC was renamed as Saigon FC in the previous two rounds of play. However, it was not until the sixth round last weekend that the team, managed by Nguyen Duc Thang, had their first match on their new home field, Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City. Unfortunately, the Saigon players did not have the chance to celebrate a goal in their debut match ending up with a goalless draw against QNK Quang Nam.
3. Hanoi T&T taste flavour of victory for first time
Last year’s runners-up Hanoi T&T had their five-round thirst for victory quenched with a 5-2 away win over Long An on April 16. In addition, with three points bagged in the sixth round, the team, managed by Chu Dinh Nghiem, temporarily escaped from the bottom position as well as the pressure surrounding them. Currently, all 14 V-League participating teams have secured at least one win.
4.The round of the most goals scored
The sixth round saw the most goals netted since the beginning of the 2016 V-League season. A total of 23 goals were scored, including nine by domestic players and 14 by foreigners. This figure stemmed from Hanoi T&T’s resounding 5-2 victory against Long An and three other matches ending up with the same score of 3-1: Binh Duong-Khanh Hoa; Quang Ninh Coal-Song Lam Nghe An; and Thanh Hoa-Da Nang.
5. Osmar continues scoring for Gia Lai
Osmar Moreira had Hoang Anh Gia Lai full of doubts. In the over one and a half year since his only goal for Japanese club Mito Hollyhock after 10 matches in late 2014, the Brazilian striker failed to score any others.
However, things have gradually become brighter for Osmar. After nailing a double against Hai Phong, the team with the most resilient defensive line, in the fifth round, Osmar went on to score a “golden” goal last weekend firing the Gia Lai team to a successful comeback against XSKT Can Tho on the home field.
