Goalkeeper Bùi Tiến Dũng has officially said goodbye to Hanoi FC as his representative and the club could not come to a consensus about terms for a new contract. However, this fact does not make Vietnamese football trackers surprised. The fact has been even predicted long in the past because the goalkeeper has had played a role as a substitute for Nguyễn Văn Công and Phí Minh Long.

Although the two sides have not officially informed about the goalkeeper’s new arrival, sources show that the Thanh Hóa-originated player has decided to choose the runners-up of V-League 2019, HCMC FC. Accordingly, he will play at HCMC FC following a 3-year contract, but the transfer fee and his salary said to be not low have not been exactly revealed. The numbers posted are just rumors.

But why does goalkeeper Bùi Tiến Dũng choose HCMC FC, especially in the situation when many football clubs either want the service of this player. One of the significant clubs is Hoàng Anh Gia Lai because they have not had a secure feeling for this position. Besides, Thanh Hóa FC are also ready to welcome him to contribute to the football team of his home province.

The first reason is that the football club of HCMC will attend the continental competition as a replacement for Hanoi FC because the Capital’s club cannot satisfy all requirements from Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Additionally, they are in need of a new goalkeeper as a backup plan for Thanh Thắng in the circumstance when HCMC FC have to play in both domestic and international competitions in 2020 season, while Thanh Diệp has arrived at Thanh Hóa FC and less-experienced goalkeeper Sơn Hải cannot lay his trust on the club.

The recruitment of this national citizen goalkeeper is a wise decision of chairman Nguyễn Hữu Thắng. Although Dũng’s performance is not as high as at AFC U23 Championship 2018, he still possesses a large number of fans, especially female ones.  This will help HCMC attract more fans, through which leading more citizens to the stadium.

At present, Bùi Tiến Dũng is having a training trip with Vietnam U23 in South Korea as a preparation for AFC U23 Championship taking place in January 2020 in Thailand. Coach Park Hang Seo and his players target to be one of three strongest teams of the championship in order to win a ticket to 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, or to appear in the final like what they did in 2018 if possible.
